I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 14: Summoning the Troops
Adrian left the bedroom and joined the family at the dinner table.
"My wife cooked a beef stew. Good thing we still have meat in the refrigerator," Marco chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head.
Adrian stepped into the dining area and took a seat across from them.
The table was already set. Four plates. A small bowl in the middle filled with beef stew, steam rising in thin curls. Rice sat in a large pot beside it.
Liza ladled stew into his bowl first.
"Eat while it’s hot," she said.
Adrian nodded. "Thanks."
Marco poured water into everyone’s glasses.
"Power’s still running. Fridge, stove, lights," he said. "Feels like nothing happened outside."
Adrian scooped rice onto his plate. "That won’t last. Grid will fail once maintenance crews stop showing up."
Marco gave a short nod. "Yeah."
Mia sat quietly, spoon moving slowly. The baby was asleep in a portable crib placed near the couch.
They ate in silence for a minute, and Adrian savored every bite of it as he knew in the future, he won’t be able to have the luxury to eat meat.
"So, I was able to reach out to my daughter in Okada, she said she’s still in her room along with her couple of friends."
"Oh I thought she was alone," Adrian said and added. "How many of them are there exactly?"
"Three, including my daughter. Would this affect the plan you are planning on drawing up?" Marco asked concernedly.
Adrian shook his head. "No, we will still save your daughter, and her friends. But like I said again, it will be a dangerous endeavour. Though nothing to worry about since my friends are coming up to help."
"Your friends?" Marco repeated.
"Yes my friends," Adrian confirmed, referring to the special forces unit that he had received from the system. "They are heading towards here as we speak."
"I didn’t know that you have a capable friend, Sir Adrian." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Please call me Adrian, I’m younger than you and you have a family and I am at college."
Marco gave a faint smile. "Alright. Adrian."
Liza looked up from her plate. "How many friends are we talking about?"
"Six," Adrian replied."
"And they are your what? Classmates? Buddies?" Marco asked, studying him.
Adrian kept his tone even.
"Just friends," he said. "We trained together before all this happened. We keep in touch."
"Trained?" Marco pressed lightly.
"Gym. Shooting range. Outdoor stuff," Adrian replied without missing a beat.
Marco held his gaze for a second longer, then nodded slowly. He didn’t look fully convinced, but he didn’t push.
Liza wiped Mia’s mouth with a tissue. "Are they nearby already?"
"They’re moving," Adrian said. "I told them to avoid main roads. I’ll meet them in the basement later at nine o’clock in the evening."
Marco leaned back in his chair. "And they’re willing to walk into Okada?"
Adrian took a sip of water before answering.
"They know the risks. And since we are long time friends, I’d say they’ll do anything so long as we are together."
"I see, that’s reassuring then. I want to thank your friends the moment they get here," Marco said genuinely.
"No problem. Anyways, your wife’s beef stew is delicious," Adrian praised.
"Thank you," Liza smiled warmly.

Nine o’clock in the evening, in the basement. Adrian stepped out of the elevator and looked around. There’s no zombies so it’s safe to bring them out here.
He opened his inventory and in one of the cells was the glowing icon of special forces.
He opened his inventory and in one of the cells was the glowing icon of special forces.
The insignia pulsed faintly. An eagle crest over crossed rifles.
[U.S. Special Forces — 6 Operators]
[Summon?]
Adrian glanced once more across the basement.
"Summon."
A magic circle appeared on the concrete floor, and slowly, six figures emerged from it. They really looked like US special forces as they were fully equipped in terms of clothing and weapons.
No one spoke for a second, then one of them stepped forward.
"Sir! Six Special Forces all accounted for. Waiting for orders."
After saying that, the six of them saluted at the same time.
Adrian doesn’t know how to react. There was a tone of authority in those voices and he was not an officer. Still, he needed to acknowledge them.
"Uhm...at ease."
The six of them lowered their hands.
"What are your names?" Adrian asked.
"We don’t have any sir, but you can name us," said the soldier in front of him.
Now he has to name them. Adrian contemplated a name for each of them. He wanted a name that’s easy to remember, so he’ll go for a cliche American name.
Adrian scratched the side of his head.
"Alright... you," he pointed at the one who stepped forward, "you’re... Ryan."
"Yes, Sir!"
"Good."
He pointed to the other.
"You’re Mason."
The man gave a short nod. "Copy."
"You’re Cole."
"Understood."
He shifted his gaze down the line.
"You’re Jake."
"You’re Ethan."
"And you," he pointed at the last one, "you’re Noah."
All six acknowledged at the same time.
"Ryan, Mason, Cole, Jake, Ethan, Noah. Standing by."
Adrian exhaled slowly.
"Drop the ’sir.’ Just call me Adrian. Our background story is that we are buddies."
"Very well Sir...I meant Adrian," Ryan said.
