I Inherited Trillions, Now What?-Chapter 59: Shareholders’ meeting finale
A day before the shareholders meeting in New York, inside the penthouse of one of the most powerful and richest men in the world, Nathaniel Rockefeller, he had just concluded a meeting with the Saudi royal family. The discussion centered on bringing down the price of oil sold to his family’s companies—ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, and ConocoPhillips. This meeting was a strategic plan in the Rockefellers plan for oil dominance to gain back the full legacy and surpass the old Rockefeller empire, which was shattered in 1906 due to the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890. The U.S. government had accused Standard Oil of monopolistic practices, citing their domination of the oil industry and their restraint of competition.
After years of legal battles, in 1911, Standard Oil was found guilty and ordered to break up into 34 different companies. It was a severe blow to the Rockefeller dynasty at the time. With their patriarch old and nearing death, many believed it marked the fall of the Rockefellers. This moment remains the family’s greatest historical shame. However, thanks to the efforts of John D. Rockefeller Jr., who took the reins of the fractured empire, the family survived. John Jr. began purchasing, merging, and salvaging what remained of their once-mighty empire.
Generations later, the family, through numerous shell companies and holding entities, had reassembled their former empire into four major companies. In an astonishing move, they even acquired part of Shell, marking their triumphant return to dominance. Their control over the oil industry, spanning North America and parts of the world, was unparalleled. Oil, often referred to as "black gold," fueled them a business worth over $1 trillion, generating profits of at least $200 billion annually. Decades of accumulation and strategic investments made the Rockefeller family wealth boundless. To counter European financial dominance, they collaborated with other elite North American families to create BlackRock, a global investment fund controlling $10 trillion in assets. This further cemented their position as the most powerful and richest family in the United States, with only a few rivals able to match their wealth and influence both domestically and internationally. Nathaniel Rockefeller was groomed to uphold this family heritage.
That day, after securing the oil deal, Nathaniel’s phone rang. His assistant handed it to him, and when he saw the caller ID, his interest was piqued. On the other end of the line was Alexander Blackwell, a man who controlled an empire just as vast and rich as the Rockefellers’. Nathaniel despised Alexander. The Blackwells were an enigma. Few could comprehend how they had amassed such obscene wealth—wealth that took other great families generations to build—in just two generations.
Another reason Nathaniel loathed Alexander was the contrast in their family journeys. While Nathaniel had fought tooth and nail, battling and even ruining his siblings mentally to secure his position as heir, Alexander had been the clear favorite in his family. His father’s intentions were always evident, carrying Alexander everywhere. It infuriated Nathaniel that someone could inherit an empire that vast without the struggles he had endured.
Answering the call with his signature grin, Nathaniel said, "Well, well, well, Alexander Blackwell. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Alexander’s deep voice came through. "Rockefeller, I have a business proposal for you."
Nathaniel’s curiosity was piqued. "This should be fun. I’m all ears."
Alexander continued, "It’s concerning the NVIDIA shareholders meeting. I need you to get BlackRock’s representative to approve my company’s entry onto the board."
Nathaniel laughed. "This is rich. First of all, BlackRock, as you know, is jointly run by most of the elite families. Who’s to say I have the right to sway the vote in your favor? Secondly, why should I help you, especially after that stunt you pulled at the auction?"
After a brief pause, Alexander’s voice returned. "To your first question, I know the chosen successor of the Rockefeller family is tasked with overseeing BlackRock Investments and ensuring your family’s interests align. Knowing the Rockefellers, you’d have the necessary pull to alter a single vote from negative to positive. I could have called any other family, but I only deal with 100% success rates. It’s better to call the leading family and guarantee a favorable outcome."
Nathaniel remained silent, allowing Alexander to continue.
"As for why you should help me," Alexander said, "this is a business deal. The Blackwells are willing to sell part of our Shell stake—10 percent. We know your family’s hold on the company isn’t dominant yet. With this extra 10 percent, you’d have enough control to exercise more rights."
The line went quiet as Nathaniel processed this. The Rockefellers had long tried to gain full control of Shell. After reacquiring their lost assets, they lunched an assault to enter the European market, but they faced fierce resistance from European elites and the Dutch government. While they secured a massive hold in the company, they still lacked complete control—a situation the Rockefellers detested. That additional 10 percent would cement their dominance, solidifying their legacy.
Nathaniel’s strategic mind quickly assessed the opportunity. For Alexander to offer those shares, the NVIDIA holdings must mean far more to him.But to the Rockefellers, while heavily invested in finance, were primarily oil barons. Oil was the backbone of their empire, and this deal would further solidify their supremacy.
Nathaniel finally said, "Make it the full Blackwell 20 percent, and you’ve got a deal."
Alexander replied coldly, "It’s 10. Take it or leave it. Don’t bite off more than you can chew."
Nathaniel grinned. "You have yourself a deal, Alex. I’ll make the call now. i would also send over the share transfer forms. Pleasure doing business with you."
Alexander didn’t respond. He simply cut the call. Having secured the deal. While others might still be processing the victory, Nathaniel’s mind was already racing ahead, strategizing how to leverage this in the next family meeting. His ultimate goal? To push out one of his uncles and take full control of one of the family’s oil companies and start cementing his name in the main family business.
His secretary, who had been silently observing him, finally broke the silence. "Congratulations, sir. With those shares, the Rockefellers’ hold on Shell would be unanimous. You’d be the one to complete the invasion of Europe. But I’m still shocked what a twist after hearing about everything that happened at the auction, I would never have guessed Mr. Blackwell would call you to strike a deal."
Nathaniel chuckled, a sharp, knowing laugh. "You really are still naive."
"Pardon me, sir?" she asked, clearly taken aback.
"Naive," Nathaniel repeated, his tone patient but condescending. "You’re surprised that someone like Alexander made this deal? Then you don’t really know him even though you have been reading all about him. Alexander doesn’t operate out of anger, hatred, or any other emotion. He’s a pure businessman. He has no allies, no enemies. As long as there’s profit to be made, Alexander would betray God Himself and make a deal with the Devil. He’s the very definition of a capitalist."

The words lingered in the air, and the secretary found herself recalling the one time she had actually met Alexander Blackwell. She remembered those cold, unfeeling black eyes that seemed to pierce straight through her. Thinking back, she realized her boss’s assessment might not be so far-fetched.
Her thoughts were interrupted as Nathaniel spoke again. "Call Anna. Tell her to vote for Blackwell at the shareholders’ meeting."
As she left, she turned back. "Sir, I know what those 10 percent shares mean, but I have a bad feeling about letting Blackwell onto the NVIDIA board. If what you said about him is true, then he wouldn’t part with his Shell shares unless NVIDIA’s growth potential is greater than we’ve calculated. It might come back to bite us."
Nathaniel remained silent for a moment, his expression unreadable, before finally speaking. "I understand your concern, but you must remember something: the backbone of the Rockefellers is oil. Maintaining our dominance in the oil industry is non-negotiable. It’s what defines us. Everything else finance, acquisitions it is all secondary."
She nodded in acknowledgment and turned to leave, her mind racing as she prepared to make the call. As she stepped out of the office, Nathaniel’s voice stopped her in her tracks.
"And don’t trouble yourself over Blackwell’s attempt to take over Nvidia," he said, a sly grin spreading across his face. "In the end, all those shares—and more—will belong to me."
The grin sent a chill down her spine. Alexander Blackwell might have been a ruthless force in the business world, but she had almost forgotten one crucial fact: her boss, Nathaniel Rockefeller, was just as much of a monster.
Meanwhile, at the NVIDIA shareholders’ meeting, shock rippled through the room as Anna Morales, BlackRock’s representative, raised her hand in support of the Blackwells’ entry onto the board. Even Evelyn, Alexander’s assistant, maintained her composure despite the unexpected turn of events. Jensen, NVIDIA’s CEO, was visibly agitated, while representatives from Vanguard and State Street exchanged astonished glances. The room buzzed with murmurs as the implications of this move began to sink in.
