I Just Want to Farm, But My Beasts Keep Evolving!!-Chapter 44: First Day of Competition
After tying his shoelaces, Raiden stood up and checked his reflection in the mirror for one final time.
Instead of his normal clothing, he dressed more impeccably today. Wearing a high white turtleneck with a denim jacket, as well as black pants with a belt, finishing it off with red shoes.
To finish the outfit, Raiden took out two boxes. First was a slightly worn and old box, with second one being a brand new one.
He opened the new one first, taking out a White Steel Dive Watch with a blue dial, a silver bracelet, as well as a couple of gold and silver rings with different patterns, wearing them one by one.
Finally, he opened the worn-out box at last, taking out a simple gold chain from within it. It was something of a keepsake, left behind by his parents. Taking a deep breath, Raiden got rid of the distracting thoughts and wore the gold chain, hiding it underneath his clothes.
Now looking at the mirror once again, with his curly long hair resting on his shoulders, Raiden only had one thought in his mind.
’The Clothes Make a Man.’
BAM!
Suddenly, the door was thrown open as Woolie bounced inside.
"Woo Woo Woolie!!" Hurry up, human! I want to go and win the tournament!! 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"You battle junkie...fine! Let’s go!! We are getting late anyways."
Raiden walked downstairs and stepped outside, entering the taxi that was already waiting at the door.
"I am counting on you to take care of the farm, Aunt Ruby!!"
"Woolie!!~" We are going to win!! ( •̀ ω •́ )
"I know you will win, take care of yourself, Woolie and Rai Rai~" Aunt Ruby hissed, as she watched both man and beast enter the car, becoming smaller and smaller in the distance.
She had witnessed how much effort they put in, and she could confidently say there were a few who could match them at the same level. Maybe they’ll come back with a trophy. All she could do was watch over them. This competition, it had their names all over it.
---------------------------------
Woolie and Raiden walked inside the big metal gates of school, watching as the place became bustling like a market. There were various stalls on all sides, as well as hundreds of people going to and from the school.
They had all gathered to watch the competition, as it was one of the biggest events of the year.
Ignoring the people who were staring at him, Raiden directly walked towards the booth near the entrance, which said: All Competitors, Register Here!!
"Hello, I am here to take part in the competition. I think Miss Yuna has already registered for me." Raiden smiled politely while looking at the girl behind the counter.
The girl who was typing away looked up and blushed when she noticed Raiden. A second later, she snapped back.
"Ahem, of course. May I know your name?"
"Raiden, Raiden Ashford."
"Alright, Raiden, just give me a moment...here you are!!"
A second later, a new printout came from beside her. She took it and put it in a lanyard with an ID holder, handing it to Raiden.
"This is your pass for the event, Raiden. It has your serial number, 69. Make sure not to lose it. The competition will start in an hour. And this—"
She scribbled something on a sheet of paper and handed it over to him while blushing.
"This is something extra for you."
Raiden accepted both with a smile on his face.
"Alright, thank you, miss. See you later."
He opened the other slip she gave him, only to find a phone number written on it, with the words: Call me.
"Do you see this, Woolie? What has happened to this world?! No shame!! No morals!! Is everyone so casual nowadays?! I don’t need it. Girls will only affect my speed of fighting with Terra Beasts."
Raiden silently pocketed the slip away, while continuing to talk to Woolie, who had a look of disdain on his face.
To pass the time, he randomly found a bench and sat on it, eating some food from the stall while reading a novelkiss. It had been so long since he read one, never finding the time to read one in recent days.
Taking out the cellphone, he dialled a number.
"Yo Sylvia~ Where are you right now? I am at your school. You didn’t know? Your big brother is also taking part in the competition, you know. Alright, see you at the venue, I guess."
With a sigh, Raiden cut the call while looking at Woolie, who was too busy eating.
"I guess it’s just you and me, buddy."
"Woolie!~"
Both of them wasted some time while sitting and eating. Soon, a loud bell rang.
Attention All Participants, Make your way towards the arena, the competition will start in 5 minutes!!
Hearing this, Raiden stood up and started making his way towards the arena, with the majority of the crowd following behind them, eager and curious to watch the competition.
Raiden cut through the crowd, walking in the front of it and joining a few young people in the gathering.
"Raiden, is that you?!" A voice exclaimed as soon as he reached there. He turned around to find a fatty standing there.
"You are...Toby?"
"Hahaha!! It’s been so long, bro!! You just cut off contact after graduating, didn’t join the class group or attend any gatherings either!! What’s up with that?!" The fatty hugged Raiden naturally, causing him to stiffen up. He remembered this guy. It was his classmate, also someone who liked to hug, a lot.
"Hehe, sorry about that. I was busy working. Enough about me. How are you? I didn’t think you would join the competition."
"What do you mean, didn’t expect me? I, the Great Lord Toby, will beat everyone here and join Archon Academy, do you dare to believe it?!" Toby started getting excited, his spit flying everywhere in his excitement.
"Attention all students!!" An old man walked onto the stage just as both Raiden and Toby were talking, and the crowd turned quiet as soon as he climbed the podium.
"First of all, thank you for coming. I am very happy. As you may have noted, you all have been assigned a number. To thin out the numbers, you will be matched with a random number, and the winner will advance, and the loser will drop out. It will go on until we have our final 128 contestants. Don’t worry, our machine is extremely fair, and everyone will fight around the same number of times."
He paused to take a look at the young crowd, who began seething with excitement.
"I wish to talk much more, but I am guessing you guys are too excited to listen to an old man talk. So without further ado,
LET THE INTER-SCHOOL COMPETITION BEGIN!!!
ROAR!!!!
