I Level Up Dragons with My Evolution System-Chapter 105: A Dragon
As he traveled anonymously in a high-speed carriage, Edward stared intently and thoughtfully at his stats, clenching his fists from time to time.
His strength had increased beyond what he himself had imagined.
He had managed to match—or even surpass—a person whose awakening had been glorious.
A powerful beast from the start, an impressive talent that practically placed him on a throne like a king.
But he managed to match his strength. Not only that, when Charles attacked, he demonstrated greater control over his power than Robert.
Despite that, he still hesitated.
’Can I beat him if he fight with his Lion?’
Probably not. Right now, it’s uncertain.
Robert’s Lion is no ordinary beast. It’s not for nothing that it’s one of the most famous beasts the glorious Morris Family can obtain. This family, despite having no ties to royalty, boasts an exquisite bloodline that dates back to ancient times.
Hundreds of years ago, during the reign of the Lux Empire, they existed and were so powerful that tales of their legendary exploits still circulate in these lands.
That long-standing bloodline produces astonishing beasts, and this Lion is among the most powerful. Some rank it second only to the Morris Maned Dragon, which hasn’t been seen in over 100 years.
So this Lion is no ordinary beast. Defeating it would be no easy task, especially given his current strength; his beasts aren’t much use against a lion.
Edward leaned back in the carriage seat and closed his eyes. In his mind, he began to imagine a battle between himself and Robert.
He was certain he could defeat him if they didn’t use beasts. Perhaps not through sheer power, but through stamina. Thanks to his exquisite control over his spiritual energy, he could endure longer than Robert.
Then he added Robert’s beast to the equation, along with his own four beasts.
The battle in his mind was fierce. Robert fell four times and his lion ended up wounded, but Edward lost three of his beasts and ended up falling a fifth time.
At that moment, the carriage jolted. Edward opened his eyes, frowning. "Did something happen?"
"I’m sorry, young master. It was just a pothole I didn’t see. It won’t happen again." The carriage driver apologized from the other side.
Edward didn’t answer, but he couldn’t return to the state of concentration needed to recreate such a precise mental battle.
He looked out the window at a distant mountain range with a vast meadow below it.
"Dragon Mountains... I heard that the entire mountain range is cursed land," he muttered.
Skilled adventurers have said it is torture for any Beastmaster, as powerful beasts and dragons are the norm there. Some claim it’s possible to see dragons if you get close enough or are very lucky.
As he watched, suddenly, in the distance, a massive figure rose up into the sky. It was like a bird, but it roared fire and spewed burning embers. Its body was so large that, despite the distance, you could gauge its size.
Hiiiiiiiiiiii-hiiiii!
Hiiiiiiiiiiii-hiiiii!
The horses’ whinnying and the tremor that shook the drivers to their core prompted one of them to speak up quickly.
"Sir, please stay quiet and don’t get out of the carriage. A dragon has appeared," he whispered, as he calmed the horses and got them to settle right where they were.
"I can see it," Edward replied.
From a distance, he could see that it wasn’t a beast he could defeat, even if he and Aurora multiplied a thousand times over. It was simply in a league of its own.
"What kind of dragon is it? It’s giant and... powerful." Though he spoke, Edward tried to keep his voice as low as possible.
The distance was so great that there could easily be half a region between them, but the power of dragons was not something they could judge. It might very well be listening to them at this very moment.
"It’s a Frost Dragon... The smallest and weakest, though apparently this one is strong."
’Small and weak?’ Edward swallowed hard.
He couldn’t imagine what the strongest one would look like, if that terrifying thing was the weakest.
"Do they usually come out?"
"It’s not common, but when they appear, everyone must prostrate themselves. We don’t want to attract a dragon’s attention, after all. It could be disastrous; though if you don’t invade their territory, they don’t usually kill humans."
Edward nodded.
But suddenly he frowned. That dragon circled in the air and... did it look at him?
The enormous dragon’s body, propelled by wings that clearly shouldn’t be capable of moving such a massive form, began to fly. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Edward swallowed hard and clenched his fists. "Is... is it coming this way?" he asked.
"..."
The drivers fell silent.
Edward fell silent.
The horses trembled and lowered their heads until they lay prostrate.
The nearby birds, paralyzed by fear, flew off in all directions. The air stood still for a brief moment, before the dragon’s powerful flapping reached them.
With each flap, the carriage swayed like a rock when you kick it off the edge of a cliff. The previously silent world was disrupted by the strong gales caused by the dragon’s flapping.
With each flap, its body—which was supposed to be small, according to what they say—grew larger and larger.
It was so huge that Edward couldn’t help but compare it to a large airplane from Earth, only much more imposing. With a piercing gaze, it commanded respect.
From its chest to its tail, a silvery frost covered its dark gray body, and it bore a distinctive mark: a crown on its lower chest.
According to legend, a crown on a dragon’s lower chest signifies kingship.
He is the king of the Frost Dragons.
These dragons are known for being incredibly perceptive and capable of sensing things at distances that even other, more powerful dragons could not.
It took him 30 minutes to reach the plains near the carriage.
’A distance that would take us nearly a week in fast carriages, he crossed in 30 minutes...’ Edward trembled inside.
This was true power.
What lion? What serpent?
This was power!
