Chapter 10: Fighting the Villainous Monster

Axel was gobsmacked. He felt traumatized by the mere sight. Appalled was an understatement.

With a swift motion, even ignoring his own safety, he ran over to where his uncle lay and held him by his head.

"Uncle—un- un," Axel stuttered. He found no words, and so he couldn't—he couldn't speak. He tried to, but apparently, his words came out as stutters.

Axel's uncle looked him in the eyes, breathing softly now, as though the wind would soon jerk his last breath out of him.

"Run to safety, boy, run to safety," his uncle said.

Axel's eyes were filled with tears, and as the words came out of his uncle's mouth, they slowly trickled down his face.

"Don't die, Uncle. I just lost my father earlier today."

Axel's uncle smiled and touched him on the face. The monster was going berserk, now raising the taxi into the air and shaking it around, swerving the remaining people out viciously.

The monster's actions didn't seem to affect Axel, who now thought his surroundings oblivious. He was focused on his dying uncle.

"I guess I'll go meet your father in the afterlife, and we can have a chat."

Axel was sobbing loudly now. He felt a large amount of grief, and at that moment, he thought it would choke him to death.

"This city is in shambles. If you have a means to stop this apocalypse, do. But if you don't, I'll say you run," Axel's uncle said. "I believe there are many worlds out there. You only need to find them."

Axel was crying loudly now, and his face was twisted into an ugly expression.

"Don't die, Uncle. You are the only one I have left in this world!"

"Death is not the end," Axel's uncle continued. "I see it as the beginning."

With that, Axel's uncle closed his eyes and plunged into a deep slumber. It was death—scenic, coming with its usual silence. Death had taken his uncle.

Axel wanted to cry out loud and mourn his uncle's death. He didn't know why, but it seemed worse than the death of his father. Losing his father, he had taken heart and tried to let go, but now he had lost an unexpected person in his life. His only hope of still living on this earth was gone.

He was about to cry when the monster's bulky fist went into his mouth.

BAM!

Axel was in the air, and before he could open his eyes—

WHIMM!

He had hit his back on top of a building's roof, the surface bruising him slightly.

He had been so galvanized by his uncle's death that his surroundings became oblivious to him. He seemed to have lost meaning at that point—life had seemed to lose its texture (if you could put it that way).

Axel gritted his teeth now, not hesitating to snap his fingers as he lit up and became the Inferno Hero.

The monster paused for a brief second, staring at Axel in shock, surprised he had just lit up and turned into—literally—a demigod!

Axel was burning with fury now, pure rage coursing through him. He was furious at the monster for killing his uncle. He flew up, ascending slowly. The flames all over his body burned so fiercely it seemed they would burn him to pieces.

"You killed my uncle!" Axel shouted.

The monster squinted its eyes at Axel, licking its lips and looking indifferent. It couldn't understand words, and the sooner Axel realized that, the better for him.

Axel dashed forward, swirling around like a tornado. He spun in a loop and, stretching his hands forward, sent fireballs at the monster, which opened its mouth and swallowed them.

Axel halted, his face twisting into a grimace. He knew something wild was going to happen.

And it did.

PUTTT!

The monster spat out the fireballs from its mouth, and Axel, stunned, fell in an effort to dodge.

He was just in time, stretching his neck backward as he saw the fireballs enter a building.

WHOOSH!

Axel watched the fireballs, now covered in monster spit, go through the walls of a building, and he sensed that they kept going.

He realized this monster villain standing in front of him wasn't going to be easy. It was already proving to be a real competition.

Getting on his feet, Axel closed his eyes for just two seconds, but that was enough for him to see his inventory.

[Hero's inventory scanning]

In a split second, he saw darkness, and then, flooding his vision was:

[Hero's inventory complete]

[Inventory]

Golden armour (Rank F) – Makes your flames to be golden and fierce. Can burn opponents easily.

Inferno sword- Go through your opponents with the similitude of flames.

Basic Combat Suit – Offers minor protection. (Upgradeable at Rank E)

Energy Potion x2 – Restores stamina in battle.

'I find the golden armour too powerful so I won't use it now.' Axel thought.

That seemed to be the only useful thing In his inventory, the others were quite useless to him.

Useless?

Yes, that seemed to be the right word.

All these thoughts and the inventory message happened within three seconds. Axel noticed it as another perk—time would pause for him if he closed his eyes and wanted to see a special aspect of his stats.

Noted!

Another perk of being an Inferno Hero—noted.

The only thing that would be useful here was the basic combat suit, but he had tried that on the first villain he fought in Khaos Realm—Dust, by name. It had been useless. It didn't help to defeat Dust. It only proved to be quite useless.

The inferno sword was useful. He didn't know why but he felt like not using it.

[Basic Combat Suit – Offers minor protection. (Upgradeable at Rank E)]

Upgradeable at Rank E?

Which rank was he currently at? Closing his eyes and scanning, he saw that the basic combat suit was currently at:

[Rank F]

'Just one more to climb!' Axel thought.

He decided he was going to use it. Even though it was going to be useless (so he thought), he could upgrade it.

And so, reality was in front of him again. Everything seemed normal again.

BOOM!

The monster's fist slammed into the side of his cheek.

Axel was whooped into the air, landing hard on the bare ground.

THUD!

His heart almost leaped out of his chest.

He grunted and groaned, looking around to see if anyone was watching him get beaten.

No one was. The place was basically deserted apart from the dead people lying on the ground—including his uncle.

He felt roasted, actually.

"RARRRGH!" the monster shouted.

Axel sighed.

"Damn."

He was lifted off the ground and, with an enormous fluke of strength, flung toward the sky.

A swerve sideways sent Axel through a building's window. He landed on a large bed, but the force of the impact sent him up, out the window, and crashing down onto a parked car.

RISSSHHHH!

Glass splintered, shattered, and some landed on Axel, who was now so dazed he was seeing dragons flying in the sky.

An illusion!

The way he landed on the car was mesmerizing, by the way. For a better scene, just imagine one of those action films where the main character plunges onto a car after getting kicked off a building by the villain.

Be wild with your imagination.

Axel was out of breath and felt hot. But the question he asked himself at that moment was why. Wasn't he covered in flames? And weren't his powers fire?

A swift climbing motion interrupted him. The monster was running (shockingly) up the building he had earlier crashed into.

Before Axel could even release the breath he was holding, the monster had reached the top—

Then it was rolling down.

From Axel's viewpoint, it seemed like a rocket was shooting straight at him.

"Holy shi—!" Axel exclaimed.

The monster was coming at him. And from the way it was moving, Axel realized something—

This thing must have been a big wrestling fan.

Because it was rolling down on him like Rey Mysterio.

Hell, it must have been a wrestling fanatic.
