Chapter 2: Duties as an Inferno Hero

Axel felt like he now carried a very great power. But what he kept wondering was, if he was just awakening these powers, he didn't have them before, so why was the term: 'REAWAKENING'?

With that thought, he seemed to see visions. He closed his eyes, and it felt like he was in the sky. In what seemed like a vision, he learned that he wasn't the first Inferno Hero.

There were actually thirteen, and the last one was slain beside the rock. But before he died, he thrust his sword into the rock so that another person could 'reawaken' the powers.

Axel opened his eyes now. He had just done it. He had reawakened as the Inferno Hero.

But what would he do now? Everywhere seemed deserted. He could only see rocks and pebbles.

He sighed and remembered the death of his father. He wanted to cry, but he noticed the tears wouldn't come out.

He guessed it was because he now possessed a certain degree of power that wouldn't give way for tears. Out of impulse, he leaped, and then he saw himself flying up to the sky. The sword he found on the rock was still in his hands, and he gripped it tightly.

He could fly!

Well, he had now discovered the first of his powers.

Up in the air, he looked forward and saw a tiny village up ahead. He realized that there was at least life in this dilapidated realm.

Looking to the clouds, he heard a voice. It sounded soft, and then:

[HOST]

"[You have reawakened the powers of the last Inferno Hero, making you the new Inferno Hero. With great power comes great responsibilities, Axel. This realm is on the brink of disaster, and when I say disaster, it will soon be no more. It's about to be destroyed. And with it destroyed, Earth will face a greater disaster. There are many monsters, creatures, and villains in this realm, and if this realm is destroyed, all the monsters, creatures, and evil villains will enter portals and go to Earth, ripping it apart.]"

Axel felt a bit startled by the words of the voice from the clouds.

"But monsters have already started entering Earth! They killed my dad a few minutes ago!"

The voice seemed to smile. Axel couldn't see it, but he felt it did—if that was even possible, by the way.

"[That is just the least of what will happen. From your street, soon it'll spread to other streets, and then to countries, and then Earth will be no more. And don't worry about your father. All superheroes must lose a loved one. I don't know why, but it seems to be compulsory. You must not worry about that. Just take heart, because the fate of the world lies in your hands.]"

Axel let that sink in.

"And who are you?" he asked the voice.

"[Just call me 'The Voice' because I'm more of an entity than a being. I have guided all the past Inferno Heroes, and now I'm going to do the same with you.]"

Axel furrowed an eyebrow.

"So what do I do now?"

"[Only you can save the world now. Like all superheroes, you will face villains and meet heroes. You will also have to choose your own superhero name as you are only an Inferno Hero. I will summon a group of super heroes who will help you out and train you. Their timing might be late so you are on your own for now. You will still go to Earth, but not now—it's too dangerous to do so.]"

Axel turned back and was about to leave when the voice shouted, halting him.

"[No one must know your true identity. You must hide it at all times. If you want to transform back to your normal self, just snap your fingers, and the same applies if you want to transform into an Inferno Hero. Note, this realm you are in, called the Khaos Realm, is a place for heroes and monsters. I bet soon you'll find more heroes with similar powers as you—and more dangerous villains. Good luck!]"

Axel didn't hear the voice again, and now he flew forward. Squinting his eyes, he could see what looked like a small village. He put his hands backward, his face stretching forward even more, and then he was speeding toward the village.

The wind drifted backward, hitting his face. He looked different now. One wouldn't recognize him as Axel, the teenage boy. His face was now half covered in flames, his eyes completely white. He also looked more grown up, no longer like a boy.

He could see a tall building now, gigantic in size, dwarfing other buildings. He flew over to it and landed on top. The flames on his body swayed with the wind as he did so.

He was about to snap his fingers to return to his normal form when he heard a woman's scream for help. Looking down onto the village, he heard even louder screams—from men, women, and children.

Rolling like a whirlwind and coming through a small gate that led to the village was a figure made of dust. It seemed like a man, bald, with no legs. Where his legs ought to have been was a cloudy form, made of dust.

Axel was bemused.

'Who could this be?' he wondered.

The figure now swirled and twirled, rolling toward the inhabitants of the village.

"I will tear this place apart and destroy all of you!"

People ran, helter-skelter, not actually having an actual place in mind to go. Some entered their houses, some made of bricks, while others made of sticks.

Axel knew it was time to be a hero now. He would have to save the village from this being. He leaped off the building and landed with a—

THUD!

On the ground.

The dust figure paused and looked at him, surprised. The villagers also paused, scared that there were now two figures who wanted to destroy the village and kill them.

"Who are you?" Axel asked the figure. He felt it was dumb to ask, but asking would drive him forward nonetheless.

"Well, I'm Dust. What of you?"

Axel swiftly drove his hands forward, hitting right into the face of the figure.

He had just replied to the question.
