I Reawakened as an Inferno Hero-Chapter 59: Monseryan Monster: Embercollosus [3]
Axel’s mind was far from pragmatic. It wasn’t that he wouldn’t deal with things in a practical and simple way. It was just that, at this point, it wasn’t needed.
Just staring at the monster for a split second, Axel saw that it seemed besotted with killing him right now, and well, he was too.
Unfurling his clenched fists (and also his inner flames), he dashed forward, carrying a large amount of wind with him.
The monster didn’t react quickly because of the immense speed Axel accumulated while coming at it; it felt like a blast.
Boom!
Think of a scene where a torpedo is fired.
BOOM!
That was what it looked like. Axel seemingly looked like he teleported. It looked so unreal, like he didn’t even move. Even the god of speed wouldn’t be able to beat that.
Axel exhaled just a bit now. He was near the monster—so near, it was almost flesh to flesh and skin to skin. The monster was just coming out of a blink, and to Axel? He didn’t care what the hell it was doing. It was literally none of his business. All he knew was that he was going to...
With the similitude of a lightning strike, with some seconds behind the original act, Axel shoved his hand—his finger precisely (index finger more precisely)—into the left eye of the monster.
Axel didn’t know why, but as he did that, he almost laughed. He couldn’t really pick out the reason, but he found the act dumb.
Poking a monster in the eye (left eye, to be precise, as he had done), was it a weakness?
Well, he’d have to find out and see.
The prodigious monster staggered backward. Then, to Axel’s utmost surprise, it sat on the floor, its eyes now drooling a mixture of purple and black blood.
The monster looked pathetic, and Axel almost pitied it. But then, he realized that he didn’t have to. He didn’t have to pity a goddamn monster who was either:
"Kill me, or I’ll kill you."
Axel needed no sympathetic nature. He needed to be ruthless now. He needed to be vicious. He didn’t need to worry if he was doing a bad thing or a good thing, because, after all, he was saving the day.
He was doing this to save the world, so it wasn’t a bad thing.
’I mean, this isn’t the first monster I’ll be killing.’
He remembered killing the monster that had killed his uncle. Perhaps he should stop feeling sad for monsters, as they were, after all, hideous creatures who didn’t have a real place in society.
They were villains but not really villains; they were world threats.
Axel looked at his dad. The man was still on the floor, his face bent downward, so he couldn’t see his face. Axel also looked at the monster again. It just sat frozen on the ground, the blood still coming out profusely. Now, it was rushing out like tap water. Axel decided that it was perhaps one.
A blood-eye tap—sounds grotesque and spooky.
Axel had a lot of questions, and he decided that only the analyzer could give him answers.
So, he just asked:
"I thought my dad had healing powers. Why isn’t he healing?"
[Because the punch the monster gave him wasn’t an ordinary one. It seemed to have been infused with some sort of dark magic that, by the looks of it, makes opponents go out in about eleven minutes.]
"Did the monster just infuse it, or has it been there before?"
[It has been there before. That’s how anyone is to react when punched like that.]
Axel nodded, facing the monster. "What effect does the poke I gave it in the eye have?"
[Ah, well, it’s because that’s its weakness.]
Axel sighed. Of course, he knew it was its weakness. He just wanted to know how it affected the monster and why it looked like it was going to die any minute now. To him, it suddenly felt too easy.
The analyzer seemed to know where he was heading and decided to provide a more detailed answer:
[The monster’s eyes are connected to a vital fluid or energy source that flows through its body. This fluid is essential for the monster’s strength, regeneration, and overall vitality.]
Axel was a bit fascinated. He had to ask:
"How are the eyes connected?"
[The eyes contain specialized vessels that pump the fluid throughout the monster’s body. When the eyes are poked or damaged, these vessels rupture, causing the fluid to leak out rapidly.]
Axel nodded repeatedly before finally saying:
"Okay, so what are the consequences of the damage?"
The analyzer continued:
[As the fluid drains from the monster’s system, it begins to weaken, lose regenerative abilities, and eventually becomes incapacitated.] 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Axel kept nodding his head repeatedly, and in less than about two seconds, he stopped and said:
"Well, I’m irritated with the blood spilling. It seems to disgust me."
He was about to summon the inferno sword when the analyzer stopped him by saying:
[No. Don’t do that. Chrysa wants the monster’s body complete. So, you taking out your sword and chopping its head off would make it incomplete, and that would cause a hell of a lot more blood spillage.]
Axel shrugged. He knew after this mission, Royal Cloak would take back the analyzer, but he was starting to like it a little (more than that, actually).
’Pretty smart stuff,’ he thought.
His dad was getting up now. Axel watched him, a little bit scared, as he feared that his dad might scold him for what happened back then.
But he didn’t. He was human again, back to his normal self.
Looking at the dying monster, Axel’s dad felt so disgusted that he had to ask Axel:
"I need a sword!"
"But, Chrysa wants it complete, so I’d advise against chopping the head off."
Axel’s father persisted.
"I’m not chopping off its head!"
Axel finally agreed and summoned his inferno sword, giving it to him.
With the speed of a jet, the sword went into the monster’s belly, which now grovelled for breath in a sharp gasp before soon going limp, dead.
Axel’s father gave Axel the sword and dragged the monster by its right head.
"Let’s get out of here!"
"Shouldn’t I be carrying the monster, since I’m the one with superspeed?"
Axel’s father laughed and, without saying a word, quickly dashed forward, dragging the dead monster along. His speed was on par with that of a cheetah.
That made Axel gape.
’Damn, okay, he’s got superspeed too. Cool!’
