The fog twisted and danced around them as the battlefield descended into madness. Screeches, roars, and the hiss of foreign creatures filled the air alongside the clash of steel and the flashes of Magic being thrown.

The grey monsters had come in a lot of force. They are more than just the humanoid ones. They were legion with each kind of creatures looks worse than the last.

Jan's party that have regrouped and reinforced fought shoulder to shoulder in circle. Eight of them moved with practiced synergy despite the chaos.

Jan shifted between bow and dagger, his arrows finding eyes and joints with lethal precision before switching to his blade when they closed in.

Thorne and Hund were brutal in the melee, sword arms carving through grey flesh. Mark held the line like a fortress with his relatively calm expression. His every swing of the sword keeping another craetures from breaking their formation.

Kaela danced between the grey creatures. Her twin daggers flashing as she struck deep into weak points and fatal point then twisted away before their claws could catch her.

Selene's gloves surged with Magic power. Her spells punching through chests or freezing limbs mid-lunge. Esther stood just beside her with her staff spinning as she conjured blasts of flame and sudden spikes of ice. Her Magic flaring bright through the mist.

Annette looks calm in the eye of the storm. She chanted protection wards in the needed time and healing incantations. Her presence keeping them alive through wounds that would've ended them otherwise.

Her Magic shields appeared at the moment when her company turned their eyes and didn't realize there's claws aiming at their heads from behind.

Darel's party wasn't far off. There were eight of them now after their healers died but they were no less fierce.

Darel himself fought with brutal efficiency. His sword cleaving a humanoid in two even as another lunged. Yara moved beside him like a wind of steel and Magic. Her gauntletes swinging in arcs to punch while throwing spells that kept enemies at bay.

The rest of their party fought hard as well. Kael who was one of the Magic user, throwing fire spells. Varn with axe in both hands smashing through ribs, and Lira the ranger shooting arrows with precision not less good than Jan. Butt she still a level lower than him.

Despite their earlier enmity the two groups were now mere meters apart after being pushed from all sides by the creatures. Their backs often brushing as they turned to face fresh waves. Hostility burned in their hearts but survival held their blades steady for the grey creatures for now.

The grey humanoids came first, swarming in with jerking limbs and that terrible green eye fixed on their prey.

One nearly tackled Kaela but Thorne's sword decapitated it before it made contact.

Another leapt at Hund and got skewered mid-air. But the things didn't scream now. As if they didn't feel and just kept coming like loyal soldiers.

Then the lion-snake-headed monsters charged in.

They roared and hissed, twin serpents snapping at anyone too slow to react.

One of them pounced at Mark, its massive paws shaking the ground but Mark raised his sword and met it head-on, gritting his teeth as he was pushed back.

Selene flung a barrage of lightning bolts at its side and immediately scorching fur and scale, forcing the beast to recoil.

Kaela finished it, driving her twin daggeres through its chest, necks, and eyes with a feral cry.

And then the ground shook.

The giant ones start to emerged from the fog, towering over them all. Its massive arms dragged across the dirt, swollen with muscle and warped bone. Their green eye dull and their mouth slobbering.

With one swing, it sent one of Darel's party flying back, crashing through the mud.

Darel and Hund lunged together, one from each side with the only target to kill the creature as soon as possiblee. They slashing at its knees to bring it down.

Esther throw a spell and a storm of fire rained down burning across the giant's hunched back.

Then from above, another horror swooped.

The flabby-winged creatures descended with their claws extended and faces twisted into expressions of endless hunger.

One managed to caught Annette in the middle of the chaos and dragging her up into the air.

She screamed, but before the beast could climb higher, Jan's arrow pierced its eye and Selene followed up with a gravity spike that sent both creature and healer plummeting to the ground.

Hund caught Annette just before impact.

"Stay behind me!" he barked, and she nodded breathlessly and already casting more protective spells.

The two parties fought like two sides of a single shield. One breaking but the other holding.

The grey tide didn't stop. Few minutes passe and more were coming.

Jan's dagger sank into the chest of another grey creature, twisting until it dropped twitching to the ground. He yanked the blade free and backed toward Thorne while breathing hard, his eyes scanning the endless mist.

More silhouettes moved like a slow circle of death forming around them.

"We can't hold this line forever," Jan thought grimly. "They'll collapse on us. It's just a matter of time."

He ducked under a swipe and shouted, "We need space! A hole in their numbers. Throw something big now!"

Then he turned sharply. "Esther! Ready the big spell! Something that'll clear the field!"

Esther, who had just launched a searing ice shard into a snake-lion's neck, snapped her head toward him. Her eyes widened a fraction then she understood immediately.

She gave a sharp nod. "I'll need ten seconds."

"Then we buy you ten," Jan called. "Everyone! Protect Esther! Form around her!"

The order echoed without hesitation. Thorne and Hund stepped in close, forming a protective front. Kaela moved to the side, spinning her daggers in a tight rhythm.

Selene raised her hand and created a shimmering arcane barrier that hovered above Esther, blocking one of the flying horrors.

Annette moved behind her, one hand on Esther's back, steadying her while her other hand pulsed with healing light, ready for emergencies.

Esther's body then lit up with orange color like she was burned by fire from the inside.
