I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess.-Chapter 7:Dinner
The dining went quiet. Heavy footsteps sounded at the moment, as they grew louder and louder until the owner walked into the dining room.
"Everyone is already seated," his father, Lord Helmer, said, and took the seat at the head of the table.
The table wasn’t big. It could only seat at most ten people which was small unlike the other households.
Lord Helmer was a tall and stoic man. Despite him being a bit rough around the edges he was a good advisor and father in his opinion.
He had long black hair just like his brother and rarely talked unless talked to. While his mother was the expressive and fun parent his father was the strict one.
Atheline knew they both wanted the best for them in this dog-eat-dog world. The weak will be swallowed whole before they even react.
"How have you been father?" Atheline asked.
He carefully served the food for everyone before settling down. No one reacted, they had once tried to stop him but it didn’t work.
"The engagement is getting near, there is so much tension in the court," his father said in resignation.
Atheline nodded. Not every high-blood noble accepted the engagement. Many of the elves saw dark elves as below them in hierarchy and blood.
Most of the high elves equate themselves to being pure while the dark elves are cursed.
"Are those fools still trying to prevent the engagement?" His mother asked.
His father nodded.
"Hasn’t the council already accepted the engagement, why are they still hung up on it?" Atheline said.
He rolled his eyes inwardly. The council was ten older elves who made decisions that mainly revolved around the survival of the species.
No one knew why a marriage proposal was sent by the dark elf but the council was the one who had accepted after the king consulted them.
’Just a group of old people who don’t want to lose power’
"They don’t really care that much but everyone wants to get the biggest share of the pie. You know lord Syrill will be getting the biggest share since his son is the one getting married but that would only be a small amount from the remaining one."
Atheline nodded. His mother tapped the side of her plate.
"Let’s stop talking about work, I want everyone to say something they enjoyed. It’s been a while since your father came to dinner, do not overwhelm him with work again," his mother said cutting off any question he was about to ask again.
"What do you want us to say," Helther grumbled.
He had been intensely listening to the conversation and had wanted to ask a few things of his own. He turned his attention to Atheline.
"You’re the house gossip, come on tell us something."
"Helther.."
"The stable boy just had a child," Atheline turned to his mother," she has a wind Aether core, you told me to tell you if I found someone with it. "
His mother beamed. While wind Aether fell under the common elements, being born with even an element was luck on its own.
"What is her core capacity?" She asked," I don’t really care if it’s medium or large but a smaller one would be a bit of a problem."
Core capacity was the space in the core that allowed circulation and conversion of Aether before it was turned to power.
"I’m not really sure, I’ll ask Herold to do an investigation," Atheline answered.
His mother nodded and resumed eating.
"I’ll be free after the engagement, how about we go to the spring together, " his father said to his mother.
Helther chuckled while Atheline did the same inwardly. Despite being together for over a hundred years the two remained in love and active whenever they were free.
Atheline wished he could one day find that kind of love.
"When will you be getting married brother," he turned his claws to his brother.
The man had reached marriageable age but seemed to be buying time.
"Don’t bring those things up, I’ll get married whenever I want. I want to find true love like mother and father," Helther said, unusually serious.
Atheline nodded. His parents had one of those love-at-first-sight stories. His mother was from a lower noble home at the border of the territory. His father married her a week after meeting and they have been together ever since.
’He didn’t waste any time huh?’
His father had been the one to provide resources and anything that his mother needed for her growth until she became the best Aether manipulator.
They finished the meal in silence after that. Atheline went to leave but his father raised his hand to stop him.
"Come for your training in three hours," he said his face getting serious.
Atheline nodded. The temperature in the room went cold for a moment.
"Isn’t it later than usual?" Atheline asked in confusion.
The training would normally start half an hour after their meals. That was enough time for his father to prepare himself psychologically.
"I need a bit of rest today, I haven’t closed my eyes in over a week."
Atheline nodded and left the dining room.
Atheline was walking towards the garden when he heard a familiar voice calling him. He turned around to see his grandfather in one of the rest areas waving towards him.
"Grandfather!" Atheline called and walked towards the older elf.
He was sitting next to one of the world’s tree roots. Aether had filled the room making it smell like morning dew and fresh grass.
"How have you been?" He asked the moment Atheline sat next to him.
"I’ve been doing fine,"
"How are you, I’ve i hope you haven’t snuck out to the brothels again "
Atheline narrowed his eyes while his grandfather avoided his eyes.
"What have you been poisoned with, oh light please save this old man."
Atheline flayed dramatically causing his grandfather to burst into laughter.
"Enough of that, tell me what I want to hear."
"I used the method you taught me to control my Aether," he said excitedly.
His grandfather nodded equally excited.
"Thats good, do not tell your parents I taught you. They’ve been modernised too much , they’re forgetting the old traditions. "
His grandfather had taught him a way to increase his Aether core storage capacity without causing the channels and the core to be overwhelmed.
"I won’t grandfather but there is something that has been disturbing me during my training with father.." he left the words to hang in the air.
"What is it, child?" He asked.
His wrinkled hands came and held his cheek. Atheline leaned into the warm touch.
"Its about my core, I’ve been experiencing a problem with double usage. My core seems to get overloaded when I use both with and weaponry at the same time."
His grandfather nodded.
"You mustn’t worry about something so trivial. Elves have grown comfortable hence scared of a little core breaking but remember child. You have to go above your limits. Your core will eventually repair itself unless you fully disintegrate it. You are lucky enough that we have an Aether well in our backyard a few years inside you’ll be good as new."
’So you are literally telling me to risk exploding just to break over my limits. Wouldn’t hurt to try."
"I’ll be leaving then grandfather. "
His grandfather waved him off and went back to his musing.
