The moment Zamira laid eyes on Jake, she stood up in a jerk. Her documents tumbled off the desk,

as she dashed across the chamber. Without a second thought, she threw herself into his arms, wrapping around him in a tight embrace.

"I missed you, babe," she whispered, her breath warm against his neck. Her lips sought his almost desperately, and Jake attacked her kiss with equal fervor. Their mouths crashed, soft at first, then more intense— weeks of tension, longing, and desire pouring out in that one moment.

Jake chuckled against her lips. "I was gone for just a short while."

"It felt like forever. I can't fathom how I am feeling," Zamira breathed out.

Without breaking their kiss, Jake lifted her up effortlessly and carried her across the room. The wide desk at the center—cluttered with maps, reports, and scrolls—was cleared in one sweep of his arm. He sat her atop it, and Zamira wrapped her legs around his waist instinctively.

Things turned steamy quickly.

Their clothes peeled away piece by piece, tossed across the office like forgotten garments. Jake kissed down her neck, his hands running across her flawless skin. Zamira arched her back, moaning softly as his lips found her breast. His hands explored her curves as she pulled him closer, her fangs grazing his shoulder sexily.

With a swift motion, Jake positioned himself behind her, one hand gripping her waist as he thrust his dick into her in the doggy posture in one swift motion. Zamira cried out, her voice muffled as she pressed her cheek to the desk. The sound of their bodies colliding filled the room, echoing off the marble walls. Papers fluttered to the floor, their importance paling in comparison to the action unfolding.

Their bodies moved in sync, sweat glistening under the chamber's golden light. Jake grunted with every thrust, and Zamira moaned with wild vigor, her nails raking across the polished surface.

Minutes passed. Then, together, they both climaxed, Zamira crying out his name as her body trembled beneath him, and Jake gritting his teeth as he released deep inside her.

They collapsed onto the nearby couch afterward, catching their breath. Zamira rested her head on his shoulder, her face flushed.

Jake stroked her hair idly. "So," he said, his voice low, "what did you call me here for in the first place?"

Zamira's eyes fluttered open. She sat up slightly, her fingers trailing across his chest as she replied. "I was in this office, handling the usual paperwork when a raven landed at the doorstep. It refused to leave, just stood there holding something in its beak."

Jake quirked a brow. "A raven?"

"Yes," Zamira nodded. "Curious, I walked to it and asked what it wanted. It cawed at me and dropped a folded piece of parchment before flying off. I opened it and…" she paused dramatically, "It was a message. From the Dhampir King. He requested an audience with you. Called you the current regent."

Jake sat up straighter, his expression hardening. "The Dhampir King… Why now?"

"I don't know," Zamira admitted. "I didn't sense any malice in the message. It was too… composed. Polite, even. I think it may be an attempt at peace-making. With the way their empire has grown, I suppose he realizes it would be suicidal to provoke us—especially you." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Jake rubbed his chin, a shadow of a smirk crossing his lips. "They would be fools to think they can challenge vampires and get away with it."

Zamira gave a soft chuckle. "Exactly. We are their ancestors, after all. No matter how strong they become, their roots run through us."

Jake nodded slowly. "I'll meet him."

Zamira tilted her head. "Are you sure?"

"Yes," Jake replied. "But I want the meeting to happen here. On the vampire' soil."

Zamira gave him a small smile and stood, walking over to her desk to fetch the message. She searched the tabletop, pulling open drawers and flipping over parchment after parchment.

A frown tugged at her lips. "Strange… it's not here."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "You lost the message?"

Zamira turned to him sheepishly. "Looks like it."

Jake leaned back on the couch and folded his arms. "Tsk. I'll have to punish you for that."

Zamira's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I hope the punishment won't be too hard."

Jake gave a deep laugh. "You have no idea."

Still giggling, Zamira retrieved a fresh scroll and sat down to write. Her elegant hand scribbled swiftly across the parchment, outlining a formal response. The letter acknowledged the Dhampir King's request and stated that Jake, acting regent of the vampire realm, would be open to a meeting—but only if it took place on the vampire territory.

As she penned the final flourish, she sealed the scroll with a wax stamp of the royal crest and handed it to a waiting attendant just outside the chamber.

"No ravens this time," she said, telling Jake. "A trusted messenger will deliver it directly."

The attendant bowed and vanished down the hall.

Zamira returned to Jake's side, her voice quiet. "Do you think he'll accept to meet with you here?"

Jake stared out the window, watching the distant skyline darken as night approached. "If he knows what's good for him… he will. Besides, he is the one who wants to see me."

After parting ways with Zamira, Jake made his way through the towering halls of the main palace and exited into the open courtyard. His destination was the Central Finance Hall, nestled within the administrative wing of the city. The structure itself was pristine—marble pillars, golden window frames.

Inside, the bookkeeper, general accountant, and a few clerks were gathered, as they usually were around midday, poring over documents and financial ledgers. The moment Jake walked in, a strange tension swept the room. They straightened up, stiff as boards, the color draining from a few faces.

Jake didn't speak at first. He simply walked forward and picked up one of the ledgers from the table.

He didn't find what he was looking for, so he used the computer of a top worker. His eyes moved across the figures. It didn't take long to spot it—the discrepancy.
