I Start with a Mysterious Island-Chapter 45: An Unexpected Change
Before heading to the center of the island to check on his precious little fruit, Lin Li first went to the farmland he had cultivated to inspect the white radishes he’d planted.
He’d only been gone for an afternoon, but the white radish seedlings had already grown quite a bit. At this rapid rate of growth, the radishes he planted should be ready for harvest in another five or six days.
After checking the radish seedlings, Lin Li turned and walked toward the Magical Little Tree at the center of the island.
’This...?’
Arriving before the Magical Little Tree, Lin Li’s gaze was immediately captivated by the small, cyan fruit.
’How did it get so big all of a sudden?’ Lin Li was astonished as he stared at the cyan fruit, which was now the size of a pigeon’s egg.
Then, with a thought, a piece of information surfaced in his mind.
’Thirty percent.’
’What’s going on? How did the progress suddenly jump to thirty percent? I’ve only killed a dozen or so Mutant Beasts in total!’
The information that appeared in his mind left Lin Li stunned. He pondered for a long time before finally arriving at what he felt was a plausible theory.
’Could this change be because the flesh and blood of that Tier Two white ape Mutant Beast accelerated the progress?’
’That has to be it. Otherwise, besides that terrifying white ape Mutant Beast, I’ve only killed about a dozen Tier One Mutant Beasts. Logically, the progress should only be around ten-something percent.’
Lin Li mulled it over, and the more he thought about it, the more plausible his theory seemed.
’The flesh and blood of a single Tier Two Mutant Beast increased the progress by over ten percent in one go. If it were a Tier Three Mutant Beast, would it make the cyan fruit from the Magical Little Tree ripen in an instant?’
As his imagination ran wild, Lin Li couldn’t help but feel a deep craving for the flesh of a Tier Three Mutant Beast. However, he quickly snapped back to reality.
’Alright, alright, stop daydreaming. That Tier Two white ape Mutant Beast was already so terrifying. I can’t even imagine how horrifying a Tier Three Mutant Beast would be...’
’This time was a lucky break, a total windfall. At my current level, trying to scavenge a Tier Three Mutant Beast kill would be less likely than winning the lottery.’
’A man has to be content. The progress has jumped so much already. From now on, I should just stick to the plan and hunt Mutant Beasts step by step to raise the progress!’
Dispelling his unrealistic fantasies, Lin Li tore his gaze away from the pigeon-egg-sized cyan fruit and looked up at the Magical Little Tree’s lush canopy.
When he first saw this Magical Little Tree, its branches and leaves were still slightly yellow, looking malnourished and on the verge of dying.
Now, nourished by the flesh and blood of Mutant Beasts provided by Lin Li, its slightly yellowed branches and leaves had become a vibrant, dripping green, and many new, emerald shoots had even sprouted from some branches.
From what he was seeing, it was easy to deduce that as Lin Li continued to hunt Mutant Beasts, the nourished Magical Little Tree would surely grow more and more luxuriant.
’Things are really looking up. That area seems to be home to a lot of Luhua Chicken Beasts. I’ll go back there tomorrow to look for targets.’
’I’ll go to bed early tonight and get up early tomorrow morning to head into the wilderness. I’ll strive to get the progress to one hundred percent within five to seven days.’
Lin Li looked at the pigeon-egg-sized cyan fruit, the fighting spirit in his heart burning fiercely.
Then, with a thought, he left the Mysterious Small Island and returned to the real world.
...
「Several days passed in a flash.」
In the wilderness outside the Rongcheng East District, a figure was battling a Wild Boar Beast covered in Earth Armor.
The two went back and forth, locked in a heated battle.
FWOOM.
WHOOSH.
The figure raised his left hand, and with a flash of Spiritual Light, quickly condensed a scorching little Fireball. He then flicked his wrist, hurling it toward the Wild Boar Beast just as it was about to turn around.
The Wild Boar Beast, turning to resume its charge, had just spun its head around when it saw a small Fireball flying toward it.
It knew how powerful this enemy’s Fireballs were, so it hurriedly used its awakened Superpower. A Spiritual Light flashed around its body, and the Earth Armor covering it rapidly expanded to envelop its head as well.
BANG.
The scorching Fireball shot out, striking the Wild Boar Beast’s tightly-armored head and letting out a muffled explosion.
Splattering flames fell to the ground, scorching the vibrant green grass to a crisp yellow.
Lin Li, who had become proficient at using his Superpower after days of fighting, saw that his Fireball had only managed to crack the Earth Armor on the Wild Boar Beast’s head without causing any substantial damage.
He knew he had to find another way. Continuing to use Fireball Attacks would just be a waste of his Spiritual Energy.
SNORT. The Wild Boar Beast, covered in Earth Armor, snorted smugly at Lin Li.
Then, it adjusted its stance and pawed at the ground forcefully with its front hooves a few times, preparing to give the human before it a proper taste of its tusks.
Lin Li stared at the Earth Armor-clad Wild Boar Beast with a grave expression, thinking to himself.
’Since I can’t break through this Wild Boar Beast’s Earth Armor defense and can’t do anything to it, there’s no point in wasting more energy fighting. I should just hide on the Mysterious Small Island to wait things out, then look for other Mutant Beasts.’
SNORT...
Just as Lin Li was debating whether to hide on the Mysterious Small Island, the Wild Boar Beast opposite him launched its charge.
Although the Earth Armor enhanced the Wild Boar Beast’s defense, it also cost it speed and agility.
The Wild Boar Beast charged toward Lin Li like a small armored car, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Wielding his Spiritual Longsword, Lin Li pushed off with his right foot and dodged to the left, easily evading the charge of the fully armored Wild Boar Beast.
After dodging the charge and steadying himself, Lin Li stared at the beast’s wiggling backside, and a stroke of genius popped into his head.
WHOOSH.
A small, orange-red Fireball shot toward the Earth Armor-clad Wild Boar Beast, striking its armor and bursting into a shower of small sparks.
WHOOSH.
Another Fireball arrived. The Wild Boar Beast, covered in its Earth Armor, stood its ground, motionless, allowing Lin Li’s Fireball to hit it.
SNORT...
The Wild Boar Beast snorted, looking at Lin Li with contempt.
’This human is so stupid,’ it thought. ’He clearly knows his Fireball Attacks can’t hurt me, yet he’s still wasting his Spiritual Energy, launching these useless attacks again and again.’
