Chapter 56: Chapter 56: I Got a Little Tan from Moving Bricks at a Construction Site

However, Su Yue was also worried Lin Li might attack the middle-aged man in the suit.

After all, this was a civilized society; starting a fight would land you in jail. So she reached out, tugged on Lin Li’s clothes, and urged him gently, "Lin Li, let’s just go! Don’t mind him..." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Given the man’s promise and Su Yue’s coaxing, Lin Li released his grip on the man’s collar.

"Miss Su, please wait a moment..." Just as Lin Li and Su Yue were about to leave, the middle-aged man in the suit behind them called out to Su Yue again.

’Damn it... this guy just doesn’t quit. One second he’s promising not to bother her, and the next he goes back on his word. Does he really think I won’t do anything to him?’ Seeing the man was about to harass Su Yue again, Lin Li’s anger instantly flared.

But when he turned around, much of his anger vanished.

The middle-aged man in the suit had merely walked up to hand Su Yue a business card.

"Miss Su, this is my card. If you change your mind, feel free to call the number on it..."

"..." Su Yue looked at the business card the man was offering. She thought for a moment before reaching out to take it, saying casually, "Alright. If I change my mind, I’ll give you a call."

The middle-aged man in the suit felt a chill run down his spine as Lin Li stared him down.

Seeing that Su Yue had taken his card, he immediately turned and left, terrified that if he said another word, he’d get a beating from Lin Li, whom he now saw as a complete savage.

"Su Yue, you aren’t actually thinking of becoming some big star, are you?" Lin Li asked, glancing at the so-called talent scout’s hasty retreat before turning to Su Yue, who was putting the card in her bag.

"Do you want me to become a star?" Su Yue didn’t answer directly, instead asking a question of her own with a bright smile.

Lin Li hadn’t expected the counter-question. He scratched his head and said, "They say online that the entertainment industry is a murky business. You’re... not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I’d suggest you don’t go becoming some big star."

"You’re the one who isn’t sharp! Back in school, my grades were always at the top of the class..." Hearing Lin Li call her dim-witted, Su Yue shot him a mock-indignant glare.

Compared to Su Yue, who had gotten into a prestigious university and earned scholarships every year, Lin Li—who had only managed to get into an ordinary college—was an academic slacker.

"Oh, sure, you’re a genius. Then why can’t a genius like you even change a lightbulb? Why is it that every time a bulb burns out, you call me to come over and change it for you?"

When it came to academics, Su Yue had him totally beat, so Lin Li could only grasp at other examples to "prove" she wasn’t so smart.

Hearing Lin Li’s rebuttal, Su Yue stared at him with her bright, dark eyes, muttering inwardly, ’You... It’s not like I actually don’t know how to change a lightbulb. It’s just because...’

Lin Li watched as Su Yue fell silent, just staring at him with her big, beautiful eyes.

It wasn’t long before he caved under her silent glare.

"I’m starving! Let’s hurry up and get some dinner!"

"Mm." Seeing Lin Li change the subject, Su Yue took the hint and let the matter drop. The two of them then walked toward a spot in the distance where they could hail a cab.

"Lin Li, it’s only been a few days. How come you look a little tanner?" Su Yue asked with some confusion as she looked at Lin Li’s face, which one wouldn’t exactly call handsome.

’The weather’s been scorching, and I’ve been out in the wilderness hunting Mutant Beasts. It’d be stranger if I didn’t get a tan...’ Lin Li grumbled to himself before joking aloud to Su Yue, "I’ve been hauling bricks on a construction site for the past few days, so I got a little color."

"Pfft... yeah, right! You, hauling bricks on a construction site? If that were true, the sun would rise in the west," Su Yue teased, a dazzling smile on her face.

"Well then, you’d better watch closely tomorrow. The sun’s going to rise in the west," Lin Li retorted with a grin, glad his joke had successfully diverted her attention.

"Oh, really? In that case, I’ll be sure to watch tomorrow and see if the sun rises in the west, just like you said," Su Yue replied with a straight face, playing along. Then, her expression turned to confusion again as she asked him another question.

"Lin Li, didn’t you leave a while ago? What took you so long to get here?"

"Ugh, don’t even ask. My luck was terrible. The bus I took got stuck in a massive traffic jam..." Lin Li quickly recounted his recent traffic ordeal to Su Yue.

"Your luck is pretty awful, huh?" Su Yue said as she spotted an empty taxi driving toward them in the distance. "A cab’s coming, let’s go!"

The two of them got into the taxi. Su Yue gave the driver an address, and the cab made a U-turn and headed for their destination.

At the Exotic Beast Hunter Guild, though the sky had grown dark and it was well past closing time, the meeting in the conference room had yet to end.

"The government has issued a directive. We are to organize personnel as quickly as possible to eliminate the Tier One Mutant Beasts that have escaped from Li Mountain Forest. They are currently roaming in the vicinity of the Rongcheng North District Suburbs."

The man presiding over the meeting was Zhang Juetao, President of the Exotic Beast Hunter Guild, who was relaying the government’s directive to the other Hunters in attendance.

"As soon as this meeting is over, we’ll send a message to all Exotic Beast Hunters registered in Rongcheng and summon them to eliminate those Mutant Beasts," said Wang Zili, the Vice President of the Hunter Guild.

Upon hearing this, another person immediately objected and offered a suggestion. "A mandatory summons isn’t the best approach. I think we should try a different method.

For instance, we could post a mission bulletin on the Exotic Beast Hunter app, making it clear that this operation to hunt the Mutant Beasts in the North District is strictly voluntary.

Hunters will get to keep any Mutant Beasts they kill, and on top of that, our Guild will offer an additional reward to every Exotic Beast Hunter who participates. I’m confident that with this approach, we’ll get an enthusiastic response."

Those in attendance were all high-ranking members of the Exotic Beast Hunter Guild. Many agreed that the dissenter’s proposal was viable, and they voiced their support.

Ultimately, after hashing out the details for the mission bulletin, the President of the Exotic Beast Hunter Guild gave the final approval: a large-scale extermination mission would commence in a few days.

Roughly an hour after the meeting concluded, local Exotic Beast Hunters in Rongcheng who logged onto the hunter app were greeted by an official mission bulletin from the Guild.
