Chapter 79: Chapter 79: My Luck Is Just Too Good

Chen Gangshan’s Exotic Beast Hunter team had ventured deep into the hills, but not to the very core.

From their current position, it would only take about six or seven minutes to run to the outer edge of the hills.

Many other Exotic Beast Hunter teams were currently hunting Mutant Beasts on the outskirts. As long as they reached the outer edge, they could call for a ton of backup.

At that point, this detestable gray Bear Beast would be surrounded and killed by the numerous Exotic Beast Hunter teams, even if it had awakened a Superpower.

"ROAR..." The gray Bear Beast wanted to keep at least two of the detestable humans from escaping. Seeing the three of them about to flee, it couldn’t let that happen.

It let out a roar and was about to chase the three Exotic Beast Hunters who had started sprinting toward the edge of the hills, but Chen Gangshan immediately blocked its path.

"If you want to chase them, you’ll have to get through me first."

The gray Bear Beast narrowed its eyes at Chen Gangshan, baring its fangs in a snarl, as if to say, ’You’re a dead man.’

Man and beast faced off, their Spiritual Energy Waves surging rapidly.

If any other Tier Two Cultivators had been present, they would have been able to perceive it.

Although the man and beast were in a standoff, it was obvious that the Mutant Beast had Chen Gangshan completely outmatched, both in terms of physical condition and the Spiritual Energy Waves it was emitting.

A fierce battle was about to erupt.

Just as man and beast were about to make their move, a mournful and desperate roar suddenly echoed from the distance.

"ROAR..."

Hearing the despairing roar, both man and beast faltered, their momentum instantly stalling.

’That roar sounds a little familiar,’ Chen Gangshan thought.

Immediately after, he saw an expression of disbelief in the eyes of the gray Bear Beast facing him.

Seeing this, Chen Gangshan instantly understood which Mutant Beast had made that somewhat familiar roar.

The black Bear Beast. It was the roar of the heavily injured black Bear Beast that had already fled.

’To sound so agonizing... what could have happened to the black Bear Beast that escaped?’

"ROAR..."

The gray Bear Beast roared loudly at Chen Gangshan, then turned and ran in the direction of the black Bear Beast’s agonizing cry.

’This... The crisis is over?’ Chen Gangshan, who had been preparing to fight a desperate battle against the gray Bear Beast until his teammates brought back help, stood frozen in place, watching it quickly retreat.

’What on earth happened to that heavily injured black Bear Beast? What could make the gray Bear Beast, which was just about to kill me, rush off in such a panic to find it?’

Curiosity filled Chen Gangshan’s mind, but as an experienced Exotic Beast Hunter, his rational side told him he absolutely could not follow.

Curiosity really does kill the cat. Every year, a number of Exotic Beast Hunters die in the wilderness because of it.

Several posts on the communication board of the Exotic Beast Hunter app detailed such incidents.

...

’Tsk... My luck is just too good! Right after killing the second Rabbit Beast, I stumble upon a heavily injured Second Rank Initial Stage black Bear Beast.

This black Bear Beast is huge, at least a thousand pounds! I’m rich!’

Lin Li stared at the black Bear Beast he had ambushed and killed, his face alight with excitement.

It was just bad luck for the black Bear Beast. The direction it chose to flee in was exactly where Lin Li had just hunted his second Rabbit Beast.

And of all the mistakes it could have made, after thinking it had escaped danger, it stopped by a small stream to quench its thirst.

At that moment, Lin Li, who had just killed the second Rabbit Beast, instantly perceived a Spiritual Energy Wave that suddenly appeared not far from him.

’In these treacherous hills, a solitary Spiritual Energy Wave most likely belongs to a Mutant Beast...’

So, Lin Li picked up his prize and crept toward the source of the Spiritual Energy Wave.

Hiding silently in the tall grass, Lin Li peered through a gap and saw the creature emitting the Spiritual Energy Wave. Just as he’d thought, it wasn’t a human, but a heavily injured black Bear Beast.

’Running into a heavily injured Mutant Beast like this is like a pie falling from the sky. And it hasn’t even spotted me. I’d be a complete idiot not to ambush it.’

And so, without the slightest hesitation, Lin Li shot out from the grass, brandishing the Spiritual Longsword that was glowing with a faint golden Spiritual Light, and thrust it at the head of the drinking black Bear Beast.

On Blue Star, the head is the fatal weakness of most living creatures. Once a head was pierced by the Spiritual Longsword glowing with faint golden Spiritual Light, death was basically a certainty.

However, it was, after all, a black Bear Beast with the strength of the Second Rank Initial Stage. Although it was covered in wounds from the previous battle and was now incredibly weak, it still managed to react when Lin Li burst from the grass to ambush it.

At the cost of a bloody gash across its face, the black Bear Beast dodged Lin Li’s fatal sneak attack.

Unfortunately for the beast, Lin Li had eaten two of the Magical Little Fruits from the Magical Little Tree. Both his cultivation aptitude and his physical conditioning had been greatly enhanced, and his reaction speed was particularly swift.

Seeing his fatal ambush dodged by the wounded black Bear Beast, Lin Li immediately twisted his wrist, changing the angle of his Spiritual Longsword and stabbing toward the beast’s heart.

Having already dodged one of Lin Li’s attacks, the black Bear Beast had no strength left to evade a second time.

Then, it could only watch helplessly as its enemy plunged the Spiritual Longsword, glowing with a faint golden Spiritual Light, into its body.

SQUELCH.

The black Bear Beast’s heart was pierced straight through by Lin Li’s Spiritual Longsword.

"ROAR..."

Though it had suffered a fatal blow, the black Bear Beast did not die immediately. But it knew its death was certain.

Before it died, it turned toward its mate—the gray Bear Beast—and let out a final, mournful, and despairing roar. Then, it breathed its last.

SQUELCH.

Lin Li pulled his Spiritual Longsword from the black Bear Beast’s heart and then stabbed it through the head for good measure.

A follow-up strike. Mutant Beasts were cunning; a sword to the head was the safest bet.

Lin Li had once personally witnessed an Exotic Beast Hunter, who had an absolute advantage, have the tables turned on them by a Mutant Beast in a desperate situation. Because of that, he had now made it a habit to always secure his kills.

Looking at the two Rabbit Beasts and one black Bear Beast on the ground before him, Lin Li couldn’t stop grinning.
