I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal-Chapter 64: School
Adam went to school on foot. He had the feeling that he was in a movie. Other students were giggling and discussing everyday topics like parties and exams. Adam’s thoughts turned to the men he had just kill. He had the impression that he was a ghost among people.
At the school gate, he spotted Sophia. She was anticipating his arrival. She appeared frightened and depressed. She was gripping her school bag tightly. Adam was sorry. He was aware that he was to blame for her anxiety.
He approached her. He said quietly, "You are going to be late."
Sophia is still waiting for Adam outside the school, which surprises Adam tremendously. This was not what he expected Sophia to do. He assumed they would meet in the classroom.
She looked up as soon as she heard his voice. Her dejected expression changed to an inclusive, joyful smile. It appeared as though the sun had emerged from the clouds. Adam was taken aback by how delighted she was to see him.
He was at a loss for words. Her smile was too radiant for his gloomy surroundings. He turned and began to make his way to the school building. He wished for her to avoid him. He was a threat.
However, she chased after him. She began to follow him on foot. She had lost her fear.
"So, how are you going to deal with your bullies?" Adam enquired. Instead of discussing assassins, he wanted to discuss everyday school topics.
Sophia’s smile vanished. She had neglected her own issues because she had become so involved with Adam. The inhuman children who harassed her every day vanished from her mind. She was silent and gazed at the floor.
Adam anticipated this. He let out a sigh. He said, "Do not worry about them.",
"I doubt they will be at school for a few days." He was certain that the thrashing he inflicted on them would deter them.
"If they do come back" he said "and if they bother you again you need to tell me. I have other ways to make them stop for good."
Despite his calm demeanor, he made a promise. A vow that the next time, he would do them something far worse. Sophia gave him a superhero-like look. She regarded him as if he were some sort of angelic guardian who had come to her rescue. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
They entered their classroom. Students filled the room. On the board, the instructor was writing. Adam was seated in the rear. Sophia took the front seat. She looked at him gratefully and walked over to her desk.
Adam went over to his desk and took a seat. In class, he was always silent. He enjoyed solitude. He was seated next to two boys. Joseph and Eric were their names. They were typical high school boys who enjoyed girls and sports.
They leaned over when they noticed Adam sit down. Eric remarked, "I had no idea you had a nerdy girlfriend." He was grinning. Joseph chuckled.
Adam glanced at Joseph and Eric. To see if they were villains, he looked at their faces. However, they simply had the appearance of typical kids.
He gave Sophia a look. She was attempting to appear small while sitting with her head down. He considered how courageous she was and how much trouble she had been in.
He turned to face the two boys. He spoke slowly but firmly. She is not a nerd. She is currently just going through a few things. She is a decent person.
Joseph was taken aback. Adam’s speech was unlike anything he had ever heard. Adam had never defended anyone that he had heard. He glanced first at Adam and then at Sophia.
He began to suspect that the quiet student at the back of the class was more than he appeared to be. He began to believe Sophia had a guardian. A dangerous protector.
Joseph’s expression was one of genuine surprise as he gazed at Adam. With a broad smile on his face, he said, "So you are not denying that she is your girlfriend." ,
"That is fantastic, man. At least you are no longer single like me."
Adam’s face was expressionless as he gazed at him. The banal worries of dating in high school seemed to be from another era. He had more important things to do. He dismissed Joseph’s remark by saying, "Forget about that...Where is Philips? I have not seen him."
He was referring to the same Philips class monitor that had been James’s secret accomplice in his vehicle. The same Philips who, after being witness to Adam murder the two thugs by the river, had fled in fear.
Adam had to locate him. He had to speak with him. He was aware from the last loop that James, their homeroom teacher, was blackmailing Philips.
In a much bigger game, he was a pawn. Adam viewed him as a possible ally and information source that he could utilize against James rather than an adversary.
The door to the classroom slid open as he was ready to ask Joseph again. James smiled placidly as he walked. He appeared to be the ideal educator, a community leader, and a man who genuinely cared about his pupils.
Adam was more knowledgeable. He was aware of the evil that was concealed behind that amiable exterior.
