Chapter 66: CP:66 They Would Face It Together

[HA! If only he knew you’re actually from another world and learning all this as you go!]

"I’ve had good teachers," Alex said diplomatically.

After Clay left, they ate in comfortable silence—the food was excellent, hearty and warm, exactly what Alex needed after the day’s stress.

The babies settled as he ate, apparently satisfied that food was finally arriving.

"They’re always hungry," Alex observed, finishing his second helping of roasted vegetables.

"They’re growing fast," Naga said, resting a hand on Alex’s belly. "I can feel them getting stronger every day."

"Do you think they’ll be born before we collect the fourth stone?" Leo asked.

Alex did the math. "I’m at twenty-four weeks now. Full term is around four weeks, give or take. That’s only twenty-eight days left. We have four stones left to collect..."

[TIMELINE ANALYSIS:

Current: 24 weeks pregnant

Estimated due date: ~within 28 days from now

Stones remaining: 4

Average time per stone (based on current data): 2-3 weeks

TOTAL TIME NEEDED: 8-12 weeks

Time Limit: 3 years

CONCLUSION: You SHOULD get the fourth stone before the children arrive... probably...]

"That’s not reassuring," Alex muttered.

[I’M BEING REALISTIC! Variables include: difficulty of remaining territories, travel time, Alex’s increasing physical limitations as pregnancy progresses, random romantic complications that keep popping up...]

"We’ll finish in time," Naga said firmly. "We’ll make sure of it."

"And if we don’t?" Alex asked quietly.

"Then we find a safe place to nest, deliver the cubs, recover, and continue the journey," Leo said simply.

"The stones have waited this long. They can wait a bit longer."

[ALTERNATE PLAN ACCEPTED! Though I’d really prefer you finish before going into labor because delivering in the wilderness sounds TERRIBLE.] 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Night fell properly—the fire pit casting dancing shadows on the carved walls, the sounds of the tribe settling for sleep filtering through the stone.

Alex lay in the nest, warm and safe between his mates, and tried to process everything that had happened.

Three stones down.

Four to go.

A jealous Saintess plotting who-knows-what.

A lonely chief who looked at Alex like he might be the answer to prayers Granite hadn’t even voiced yet.

And somewhere out there, three more territories, three more impossible negotiations, three more chances for everything to go catastrophically wrong.

[Penny for your thoughts, Host?]

"Just wondering when this journey became my life,"

Alex thought back. "Six weeks ago I was a normal college student. Now I’m pregnant with six, mated to two apex predators, collecting divine artifacts, and accidentally causing political drama in every territory I visit."

[TECHNICALLY you were never NORMAL. You got isekai’d into a beast world. That’s pretty extraordinary right from the start!]

"I guess so."

[And hey—you’re doing GREAT! Three stones acquired, two mates who adore you, hatchlings on the way, and you’ve saved at least one entire tribe from extinction. That’s a pretty impressive resume!]

"I just want to go home," Alex admitted quietly. "To the sanctuary. To a place where I can raise these babies without having to negotiate with tribal leaders or dodge marriage proposals."

[You will,]

System said, unusually gentle.

[I promise. We’re more than halfway there. Just four more stones. Four more territories. And then...]

"And then home."

[And then home,] System agreed.

Alex felt Naga’s coils tighten slightly—the serpent lord’s way of offering comfort even in sleep.

Felt Leo’s arm drape protectively over his belly, warm and solid.

And despite everything—the danger, the uncertainty, the jealous Saintess probably plotting revenge right now—Alex felt... safe.

Home, even in a temporary den in a stranger’s territory.

Because home wasn’t a place.

It was the people you carried with you.

[That’s beautiful, Host. Did you just think that, or are you quoting something?]

"Just thought it," Alex admitted.

[Well it’s LOVELY and I’m definitely recording it for posterity. Now SLEEP. Tomorrow you have to prove your gifts work, negotiate with a chief, and probably dodge whatever scheme Amber’s cooking up.]

"You’re so reassuring sometime. "

[I TRY! Now seriously—sleep. Doctor System’s orders!]

Alex closed his eyes—felt the twins settle into their own rest, felt the steady breathing of his mates, felt the quiet strength of the mountain surrounding them.

Tomorrow would bring new challenges.

But tonight—just this.

Just peace.

Somewhere in the upper dens, Saintess Amber sat alone in her elaborate quarters, surrounded by her ten mates who didn’t understand why she was so angry.

She stared at her reflection in the polished metal mirror—at her beautiful face, her carefully arranged hair, her impressive collection of mate marks that should have proven her worth.

And she thought about the stranger.

The pregnant bearer with only two mates.

The one who made Chief Granite’s tired eyes light up with something Amber had never been able to inspire.

The one who carried three divine artifacts like they were nothing.

The one who threatened everything Amber had worked for.

"We need to do something," she said quietly to her mates.

"What do you mean?" one of them asked nervously—a brown bear with three stars, her highest-rated mate.

"That stranger," Amber said. "She can’t be allowed to succeed. If she trades for the Bronze Stone, if she takes it away... the tribe will see it as a failure. MY failure. The Saintess who couldn’t protect our sacred artifact."

"But Chief Granite—"

"Chief Granite is LONELY," Amber interrupted sharply. "He’s vulnerable. That stranger is manipulating him with pretty gifts and sad eyes and I WON’T ALLOW IT."

Her mates exchanged nervous glances.

"What are you going to do?" another asked.

Amber smiled—cold and calculating.

"I’m going to prove that stranger is dangerous," she said. "That her ’gifts’ are tricks. That her ’divine mission’ is a lie. And when I do, Chief Granite will see that I was right all along. That I’m the one who truly serves this tribe."

She stood, smoothing her ceremonial fabric.

"Tomorrow, during the demonstrations," she said.

"Watch carefully. And when I give the signal... be ready to act."

Her mates nodded nervously.

None of them had the courage to tell her this was a bad idea.

None of them had ever had the courage to tell her no.

And as Amber began to plan her sabotage, the mountain slept on—unaware of the storm brewing in its heart.

[DANGER ALERT: Hostile action probable within 12 hours; THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM-HIGH]

[RECOMMENDATION: Stay alert, keep mates close, don’t eat or drink anything Amber offers]

But Alex was already asleep, curled safe in his nest, dreaming of home.

And whatever tomorrow brought...

They’d face it together.
