Chapter 625: Occurrence of Transformations?

"How long?" Millis inquired, seeing Lillian take a meditative pose.

Lillian thought deeply, quickly calculating through the pain that throbbed throughout her being.

She then shook her head lightly, coming to a vague yet still informative conclusion:

"Not long... not long at all..."

The soul was something that couldn’t be healed using normal means.

Unlike most normal physical injuries that would heal over time, as long as they are provided treatment, injuries to the soul would never heal on their own.

Damage to a person’s soul would remain constant throughout their life. And unless they had a special ability, elixir, or powerful item to heal their injury, then they would continue to suffer from the pain that came from the injury.

Luckily, Lillian had one of the three to help her.

The [Abyssal Crown].

By spending the mana stored within the crown, Lillian began to heal her body at a rapid rate. Unfortunately, the amount of mana needed was more than she had anticipated.

Millis, seeing that Lillian’s spiritual body was visibly healing at an exceeding rate, grinned widely.

"Bet! Just leave it up to me!" Millis answered with satisfaction, then turned around before pouting, "But after ya get better, ya ass better lock in! Ya should be the one carrying me, not the other way around!"

Lillian laughed lightly, still flinching from the pain. Then, she fell silent to focus on her recovery.

Seeing this, Millis immediately went back to fight, except this time, with a goal to protect Lillian.

The Salesman, who had managed to get up to his feet, tried to utilise his healing item to soothe his pain. Unfortunately, all he could heal was the massive bruise in his side, as his item was incapable of healing broken/shattered bones.

He hissed in anger and annoyance before quickly running over to the Chrysalis Serums.

SWISH!

Millis swung her heavy axe and crushed the heads of two men.

Due to her immense strength and strong suit of armour, which she acquired from the Rank B monster that attacked her blimp, she was able to deal with the enemy mages flawlessly.

She flapped her wings and caused arcs of electricity to spring towards the nearest thugs, shocking and frying them alive - killing them instantly.

Against these thugs, Millis was like an unstoppable executioner of the skies, who fought and killed without mercy.

"M-monster...!"

Eventually, fear soon got the best of everyone around her - causing them to turn and leave.

"I’M GETTING OUT OF HERE!"

"YEAH, SCREW THIS!"

With so many of them dwindling, their morale was at its lowest. But that was until the Salesman tossed another crate into the air, filled with Chrysalis Serum.

The difference with this crate compared to last time was that it was filled with bigger syringes.

"Everyone! Do you want to let all of our brethren die in vain, because of our weakness?!" The Salesman cried out, "If you do, then run away like the cowards you are, but if you wish to remain to avenge our fallen comrades, then inject yourselves and kill these bitches!"

Those who caught the syringes stopped. While some pocketed the syringe and instantly ran away, some instead took the chance to inject themselves first before running - hoping to increase their chances of running.

But unfortunately, upon injecting themselves, they began to transform.

Under Millis’s eyes, she watched as a man underwent a gruesome transformation.

His body was forced to grow an extra two metres, causing him to become incredibly hunched over. His jaws and eyes grew larger, while the hair covering his body began to fall out. His fingers also began to grow horrifyingly longer before slowly hardening into claws.

These changes made him not only terribly disfigured, but also more dangerous as he had suddenly ascended into a Tier above.

Tier 3.

He continued to undergo more rapid changes, but Millis soon had to pry her eyes away from the horrific scene.

This was because she was suddenly swarmed by these disfigured humans.

Those who hadn’t injected themselves were left in horror as those around them transformed into things of nightmares.

"W-WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?"

Most of the enemy mages were left unable to process what was going on, thus leading to their demise as the speeds of these abominations were quicker than they thought.

CRUNCH! Crunch! Crunch...!

They were eaten.

"I-IT’S THE SYRINGE! IT HAS TO BE!"

Then, there were some who were smart enough to figure out the cause of their colleagues’ sudden transformation.

Unfortunately, their intelligence wasn’t enough to allow them to escape being devoured.

CRUNCH! Crunch! Crunch...!

"J-James!? JAMES, IT’S ME PLEASE DON’T—!"

Lastly, you had the small percentage of people who tried to reason with the disfigured people, either trying to beg for their lives or trying to pull them back from their monstrous selves.

Unfortunately, their hope was left crushed as their bodies were left crushed in the jaws of the monsters.

CRUNCH!

Desperate cries and fearful yells echoed across the underground warehouse as horrific abominations ran amok inside, killing people they once knew and devouring their remains.

Millis could only laugh nervously as she was swarmed on all sides, trying to get them away from Lillian.

The Heroine swung her axe, but then watched as—

CLANG!

—One of them was able to parry her strike.

Her eyes went wide with shock.

"W-wow! These guys are quite strong, hehe! Lils, ya should totally wake up and help me!" Millis started with nervous laughter.

Despite having the strength of roughly three elephants, Millis was struggling to force back these abominations; she was shocked to find her strength was being matched.

Although their bodies didn’t look like they should function, they had a surprising amount of strength. But not only that—

"W-woah!"

—They could even use mana as well.

Millis watched as a disfigured monster was suddenly lit ablaze, still moving without pain; it still had access to its fire element.

This made Millis’s face pale a bit, her face becoming crooked.

"Freaky fuckers..." She cursed.

Amidst the fighting, Millis accidentally let one through her defences.

"Ah, shi—!"

And immediately paid the price for it.

BANG!

With a fierce and powerful blow to her side, Millis was sent flying into the centre of a horde.

Lillian, who had been sitting behind Millis to recover, was now defenceless; no way to protect herself.

Stampeding towards her, a disfigured monster raised its right claw high up into the air, whilst opening its maw wide open - revealing its bloodstained fangs that were used prior to devouring a man whole.

With Lillian sitting before it, still and unmoving without any display to defend herself, the monster’s predatory instincts shouted for it to attack.

And thus—

SWISH!

—It did.

But not before quickly paying the price for it.

While calmly opening her eyes, she raised both her hands with her palms facing each other.

Then, she uttered two words:

"Acus Maris."
