I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 109: Mysterious Patient
Chapter 109: Mysterious Patient
Felix got to the street the witch’s house was on just as a black luxury van with tinted windows at the back pulled over. Two men in suits got out. Werewolves. Guards from the Bloodmoon Pack, most likely, although they didn’t have the ties with the pack’s emblem. They were older than the guards that Kade had brought to Silverfall before, in their fifties or so, if Felix were to take a guess, and the air around them was more serious and intense. Not that Kade’s guards were not formidable, but those two were on a whole other level.
They took notice of Felix, but mistook him for a human because of the witch’s spell that masked his scent, so they didn’t mind him. A human was hardly worth their attention. Instead, one of them scanned the area in search of any possible threats, while the other went to slide the van’s back door open.
"Sir? We have arrived."
"Mn, alright," a familiar low voice came from the inside, and a moment later, Kade stepped out. His dark eyes almost immediately met Felix’s, even though the Omega was still a few houses away.
He looked... tired. Exhausted, even. His face was pale, and there were shadows under his eyes. His hair was combed back, but more sloppily than usual, as if done in a hurry, and his attire was also more casual - just a pair of black pants and a cashmere turtleneck sweater. Not that he didn’t look good or anything, he was still very much hot and handsome, but... It was clear he wasn’t doing well. Even the smile that appeared on his face when he noticed Felix seemed crooked.
Felix stood in place, just staring back at Kade for a while, before he finally let out a sigh, and pushed the pram, approaching the Alpha and the van. Since he was already spotted, there was no point backing out now.
The guards all tensed up, rushing to block his way as he came close, but Kade quickly called, "It’s alright, stand down."
The guards looked between Kade, Felix, and then each other, but in the end, withdrew without a word. Kade was the heir of their pack, although he wasn’t their direct supervisor, they still had to obey his orders. Only the pack leader had more authority than him.
"It’s nice to see you," Kade greeted Felix. With just a hint of a smile, not his usual grin. He didn’t spout any nonsense as he had the habit of doing either, and got straight to the point, "Is the witch in?"
"He should be, yes," Felix nodded his head.
"Great," Kade exhaled with relief. Now that Felix thought about it, it should be Kade’s first time meeting the witch... At least as THE WITCH. He had only met him in the fox form before, as all his attempts to visit the witch’s house ended in failure, as far as Felix was aware... So it was understandable that he was nervous, after repeatedly finding the place empty.
He turned back to the inside of the van, reaching out his hand. "Fa... Sir, we can go now."
’Fa... Sir?’
Kade’s little slip of the tongue didn’t escape Felix’s attention. He turned his gaze toward the open door of the van, all perked up from curiosity...
A tall, muscular man appeared in the door frame, using Kade’s arm to support himself as he scrambled from his seat. His face was mostly covered up with the surgical face mask he wore, and he was wearing a hat on top of his head, but his purple black eyes were still visible, and so was a bit of his black hair. Those eyes, combined with Kade’s attitude, made it all too easy for Felix to figure out the man’s identity, despite the attempted disguise.
But it seemed that Kade wasn’t lying about the patient’s condition. The patient - his father, that is, Einar Blackstone, the current leader of the Bloodmoon Pack - appeared barely conscious, his eyes unfocused and hazy, his breathing shallow and uneven. He didn’t seem to even quite register what was happening around him. He stumbled as he tried to get out of the car, and would have fallen if it wasn’t for Kade catching him on time. Then, Kade practically dragged him through the gate and toward the witch’s house, ignoring the pointlessly winding path.
Felix’s fingers tightened around the pram’s handle. It seemed he made a good call, choosing to trust Kade’s words this time... The Bloodmoon Pack’s affairs were none of his business, but he didn’t hate the Alpha, and didn’t wish him unwell. If he could help his father, then he would... Well, actually, it was the witch helping him, but Felix was the one who facilitated it. Besides, who, what, why, and when, wasn’t all that important right now. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Felix pressed his lips, and pushed the pram, going to the witch’s house as well. The guards tried to block his way once again, but Kade noticed it, and said, "Let him pass. He’s the witch’s assistant."
...Now that was new. Since when did he start working for the witch? The only thing he had assisted this witch of a fox with was preparing his meals. And maybe also staying warm at night! But Felix knew that Kade was just using it as an excuse, and honestly, it was better than Kade claiming he was his mate, much more comfortable, so Felix just stayed silent, and passed the guards by.
The witch was in, Felix could tell it for certain as he got close to the house. There was a soft rustling coming from within, and the familiar jasmine fragrance wafted generously in the air, escaping from the house through every tiny crevice it could find.
"He’s not answering," Kade muttered, after trying to knock on the door for the second time.
"Just wait for a moment, perhaps he’s not ready yet," Felix reassured. "When it’s time, the door will open on its own."
And sure enough, a few minutes later, the door opened, just like he had said. Kade took a step forward, wanting to step in...
But then, a cloud of purple smoke burst out, covering their view completely. Kade only felt himself losing grip on his father... And a moment later, when the smoke dissipated, there were only Kade, Felix and Vivi left, while the door was closed again.
