Chapter 118: Scary Witch

"...Right." There was nothing Eden could say to that. Although he didn’t quite know how the witch’s powers worked, what he did know was that the witch was powerful. That’s why he was so wary of him, since he had heard what had happened to some people who had crossed the witch before, back in the early days, when the witch had just started his business, selling potions and casting spells. He hadn’t witnessed any of it on his own, since by the time he arrived in Silverfall, the witch had already managed to earn a reputation for his skills, and no one dared to challenge him anymore...

But some of his friends did, and they had shared all the stories with him. And that was enough to scare Eden to the point that he didn’t dare to utter a single wrong word, even when he was alone at home.

It wasn’t that the witch was overly cruel. Most, if not all, people whom he had cursed were the ones who tried to take advantage of him due to his obviously young age. And none of them ended up dead or with any permanent damage... At least as far as PHYSICAL damage was concerned, because many came out of that ordeal with their mental state rather... frayed. With traumas that haunted them up to this day, years later. Well, they had asked for it themselves, so no one really felt sorry for them...

But that didn’t make the witch any less scary. Eden kind of wanted to share all those stories with Felix, but considering that he and the witch seemed to have gotten close, perhaps it wasn’t the best idea. He didn’t want his tongue to turn into a snake, or to start vomiting slugs and bugs, or whatever else the witch might come up with, for running his mouth. He didn’t care about Felix THAT much. It was already making him uneasy enough to bring the witch in a lighthearted chat.

So, rather than trying to dig any further into Felix and the witch’s sleeping arrangement, he subtly shifted the topic, "It must be easier for you now that you have a roommate. Are you guys splitting the rent?"

Only when he had said it out loud did he realize that perhaps it wasn’t such a safe topic either. What if the witch was squatting at Felix’s place free of charge? Wouldn’t he then get offended by Eden pointing out that he was nothing but a freeloader?

Luckily for him, Felix nodded his head, albeit a bit hesitantly. "Yes... He has paid me his share recently."

Although to call it ’his share’ was A BIT of understatement. The money that the witch had given him through Kade was more than enough to cover all of Felix’s expenses, not just in Silverfall, but from the moment he had left the pack! And there would still be a lot left. Of course, he kind of wanted the money, since it would allow him to stay at home with Vivi for much, much longer... But it also didn’t feel quite right to just accept it all. So, he wanted to discuss it with the witch...

But whenever he brought it up to Remi, the fox acted as if he had suddenly lost his ability to understand human speech, and turned into nothing more than a half-domesticated animal. Even when Felix had written a letter and wanted to ’pass it to the witch’ through Remi, the furry menace pretended to have no idea what the Omega wanted from him, and just curled up on the bed lazily. Thus, Felix had no choice but to wait until the new moon, and visit the witch’s house to discuss it in person. For now, all three envelopes were safely stashed in the secret hiding spots around the house.

"That’s nice," Eden exhaled softly, relieved that he didn’t say anything wrong. "You’re probably going to stay at home a bit longer, no?"

"Yes, I want to take full care of Vivi for as long as I can."

"Do you know when you might be coming back, though?"

"No, not yet... Why? Did the boss say anything?" Felix asked, feeling a bit uneasy. "Does he need me to come back soon?"

"No, nothing like that. But you should keep him updated, so that he knows what’s going on. Otherwise, if you suddenly call him saying you want to come back, there might not be many hours available for you."

"Alright, I’ll make sure to talk to him soon," Felix nodded his head.

While he didn’t want to go back to work just yet and leave Vivi at the nursery, he didn’t want to lose his job at Crossroads either. He was just a rogue with no ID, it was hard, if not impossible, for him to get a job at any other place. Especially with no connections, as the only people he was somewhat close to in Silverfall were the witch, Brielle, and Eden. Meanwhile the boss at Crossroads was very understanding of his circumstances, being half werewolf himself. It was the best work opportunity for him at the moment. Technically there was also selling handmade pottery... But it seemed less reliable. Felix still didn’t even have a kiln that would allow him to finish his projects, and he didn’t know whether any shop in Silverfall would accept his works... And running his own business came with other challenges.

In other words, by now Felix had already been disillusioned when it came to making a living out of handmade crafts. It was much more complicated than he had expected at first. Not that he regretted it or had no intentions of continuing... He was doing so well, and he enjoyed it, but perhaps it was best to treat it as a hobby for now. A way to relax. And maybe try to turn it into a side income eventually. But not relying on it to support himself and his daughter anytime soon.

Living on your own could be difficult sometimes... Especially for a young werewolf who spent his whole previous life in the pack, and had only a general understanding of the outside world. But Felix was getting there, and he didn’t regret his choices, not at all.
