Chapter 142: Doubtful

"Erin Darkfang from the Misty Claw Pack."

After those words left Felix’s mouth, Kade just stared at him blankly for a long while. Until finally, he lifted his brows, "What?"

Well, it was understandable for him to be surprised and in disbelief. Felix had expected such a reaction. Although he had also taken into consideration the possibility that the Alpha already had some suspicions - after all, he was from the Bloodmoon Pack, his perspective was different. Just because one supreme pack plotting against another came as a shock to Felix, it didn’t mean that Kade was also completely unaware - now it seemed that it wasn’t the case.

Which was a bit... disappointing, Felix had to admit. While he didn’t wish anything bad on the Bloodmoon Pack - his general feelings toward the pack were completely neutral, as neither he nor his former pack had been involved with them in any way, not until Felix had met Kade - the trouble already WAS there, anyway. If the Bloodmoon Pack had at least been aware of the brewing conflict, then not only would it have been easier for Felix to discuss things with Kade, as the Alpha wouldn’t doubt his words, but also the pack would probably have some ideas as to how to deal with the situation.

Alas, it was what it was. Felix had already gotten involved and said it once, so he just repeated, "Erin Darkfang from the Misty Claw Pack was the one who requested your father, the leader of your pack, to be cursed with a spell that would slowly kill him."

Once again, Kade just stared at Felix, as if he were trying to assert whether the Omega was speaking the truth, or just messing around.

Felix seemed perfectly serious, though, and he wasn’t the one to joke like that in the first place, thus, Kade could only accept that this truly was the information he had obtained. The problem now was...

"How reliable is that information?" he asked. "What’s the possibility that the curse caster was lying? Spreading fake information on someone else’s request?"

Felix glanced down at Remi, who was still peacefully resting on his lap. According to the fox, his mother could be trusted, so...

"Should be trustworthy."

"Should be?" Kade lifted his brows. "So you’re not sure."

"I believe in it. The witch said that it’s the truth."

"Oh? And how is he so certain? Was he able to confirm it in some way?"

"...Yes, with a spell," Felix nodded his head, after only a moment of hesitation.

That part... was a lie, of course. There had been no spell involved. Agnes had just told them on her own... But it would be hard to explain why she’s trustworthy without revealing her connection to Remi.

As for the spell, Kade had already confirmed the reliability of the witch’s truth spell with that rogue Beta’s, Brian’s, case, so it was a reasonable and believable cover-up...

Except that Kade still pressed further, "So he had put the curse caster under a spell? And how is he certain that it worked as it should? They’re both witches, after all, so wouldn’t the curse caster be able to defend herself against the spell?"

"That’s... That’s because the witch is much more powerful than the curse caster," Felix explained. "Which is why he was able to undo her curse!"

This was another lie. Although Felix had no idea how Remi had been able to undo the curse, from what he had seen, Agnes was a much skilled witch, by far. Which was only natural - she was older, and thus had twenty or so more years of experience. Perhaps Remi would surpass her one day, who knew, but at the very least, it hasn’t happened yet.

Luckily, though, this argument had finally more or less convinced Kade. While the Alpha still had some doubts, it seemed that he had at least decided to accept it as a ’strong possibility of being the truth’ for now.

"Alright. So it was Erin who wanted to curse my father..." He furrowed his brows, rubbing his chin as he pondered over it. "Do you know anything else? Was she asking on her own?"

It seemed unlikely. Although such schemes between the supreme packs were unheard of, and could throw the whole werewolf community into chaos... Neither Erin nor her parents, nor even her grandparents, had any personal conflict with Kade’s immediate family. So, cursing Einar Blackstone was far more likely to be an attack on the pack by striking their leader.

And sure enough, Felix confirmed, "She was asking on behalf of the Misty Claw Pack. Cursing the Bloodmoon Pack’s leader was just the first step of their plan."

"Oh?" Kade’s purple black eyes narrowed, focusing on Felix. "Then what was the next step?"

But Felix only shook his head in response. "I don’t know. As the outsider, the curse caster hadn’t been informed of the next steps yet. All that she knew was that they had extensive plans, as they were discussing long-term cooperation on the matter."

Silence fell in the room, interrupted only by the sound of Kade tapping his fingers on the table. Honestly, he was displeased with the scarcity of the information... If possible, he would have liked to capture that curse caster, and interrogate her himself... Before eventually tearing her to shreds, or turning her into a bloody pulp, of course, for what she had done to his father. After all, while she might have done it on someone else’s request, that didn’t change the fact that she had agreed to it, and was ultimately the person who had almost killed his father...

"...You really won’t tell me where I can find her?" he tried once again.

Only for Felix to vigorously shake his head. "No, I’m sorry, but I can’t!" ƒreewebɳovel.com

Although Agnes could probably evade them all and protect herself... Felix didn’t want to cause her to have the Bloodmoon Pack chase after her!

With Felix’s firm denial, Kade had no choice but to let it go (for now). It’s not like he could use his interrogation methods on his cute little future mate...

So, he changed the topic. "Then what are you going to do now?"
