I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 141: Dangerous Conversation
Chapter 141: Dangerous Conversation
It was a bit unusual, to sit in the witch’s house, in the usual meeting room, but in the witch’s seat, awaiting the guest. The door creaked in the distance, and a whiff of the cold evening air reached Felix’s nose, together with another familiar scent, all mixing with jasmine fragrance filling the dim room. The footsteps sounded out, wandering around, before eventually getting closer...
And soon, Kade entered the room. Led by Remi, in his fox form, who trotted toward the table, and jumped onto Felix’s lap, as if that was his rightful place.
Well, technically it was. The chair underneath Felix, that is - it was the witch’s chair, after all, and Remi was the witch!
Felix didn’t show much of a reaction to the clingy fox making himself comfortable on his lap, though, he just started stroking Remi’s soft fur automatically. Things may have changed between them recently, first, with Felix’s heat, then his becoming the witch’s assistant, and finally the appearance of Remi’s mother, causing the atmosphere between them to become a bit awkward... But now Felix was too focused on something else to be concerned about. His attention was all on Kade.
Or, to be precise, on the conversation they were about to have.
"Please take a seat," he said, gesturing at the chair on the opposite side of the table. The chair he used to always sit on whenever he came.
Kade glanced at the fox resting on Felix’s lap with displeasure. However, he restrained himself from commenting, as he was all too well aware that this ’innocent’ furry creature was actually the witch who had saved his father... And could also easily knock him off with a spell. Instead, he just said,
"It’s good to see you again. You seem to be getting more and more beautiful with each day... How’s Vivi?"
Felix’s face, which twisted in disgust at Kade’s cheesy compliment, relaxed again at the mention of his daughter. "She’s doing well, thank you," he responded with a hint of a smile, before pushing a box full of bottles with potions Kade’s way. "Those are the potions for your father. How is he doing now?"
"He’s... much better," Kade only said in response. Judging by his tone, Einar Blackstone must have still been rather weak and unwell... But at least not in danger. "How is he supposed to take it?"
"There should be a prescription inside, detailing everything."
Kade opened the box, and indeed, aside from the glass bottles filled with odd-colored liquids, there was also a rolled-up piece of aged paper placed inside. It contained descriptions so extensive, that it would be hard to mess the treatment up.
"And with this, will he be fully cured?" Kade asked to confirm, as he put the paper back inside, closed the box, and snapped the metal clips to keep everything inside secure.
"He should be," Felix nodded his head. "If not, then we will brew additional potions."
"Great. And..." Kade tapped his fingers on the table, his eyes wandering down, to where Remi was curled up, before looking back at Felix. "Is there any way to ensure he doesn’t get cursed again? For example, an amulet or something?"
"This..." Felix glanced down at the fox as well, looking for an answer. He had only just started working as the witch’s assistant, his magic knowledge was severely lacking! ƒrēenovelkiss.com
Feeling the Omega’s eyes on him, Remi finally deigned to lift his head. His piercing blue eyes met Felix’s golden ones for a moment... Then, he lightly shook his head, and lazily closed his eyes again.
Seems like a ’no’, then.
"I’m afraid it’s not possible," Felix answered to Kade. "However..."
"However?"
Felix pressed his lips, thinking about what to say next. He had rehearsed this conversation in his head multiple times over the past week... But as usual, when it came to it, his mind was suddenly blank.
"Although we can’t do anything to prevent getting cursed, it’s unlikely the same curse would return... We have found the caster of the curse, you see."
"...Oh?" Kade’s eyes lit up with a dangerous glint. "And where are they?"
Felix gulped loudly, his whole body tensing up, and even the hand that was stroking Remi unconsciously becoming more forceful. He didn’t feel safe at all, telling Kade what he was about to tell, but...
"I can’t tell you that," he said, his voice coming off more unsure than he would have liked it to.
"Oh?" Kade narrowed his eyes, leaning forward, as his face darkened. "And why is that?"
Although he still acted calm, it was obvious from the look on his face that he wanted nothing more but to rip that curse caster to shreds.
Felix couldn’t help but grow even more anxious. Of course, he knew that he wasn’t the target of the Alpha’s anger, but who knew? Perhaps he could also be bloodied up for getting in Kade’s way... It seemed unlikely, since even if he were to disregard all the feelings that may or may not have been between Kade and Felix, Felix and Remi were still Kade’s benefactors. It was thanks to them that his father was still alive and well...
Rational explanations couldn’t stop instinctual fear, though.
Seeing that Felix had seemed to have become too nervous to speak, Kade withdrew a bit, trying to relax his expression. It didn’t fully ease the tension hanging in the air, but by putting more distance between them, at least he could give the Omega more air to breathe...
And it worked, as Felix soon explained, "We have sorted things out with that witch, and made a deal with her. In exchange for her safety and anonymity, she revealed her client and all the information she had obtained from them... And, naturally, she will no longer get involved. She has already gone on the run, to make sure that she won’t be discovered."
"...I see." It was hardly a satisfying answer, but Kade let it go for the time being. There was a far more important issue now. "Who is her client, then?"
Felix paused for a moment, taking a deep breath, before finally giving Kade the name, "Erin Darkfang from the Misty Claw Pack."
