I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 144: Countermeasures
Chapter 144: Countermeasures
Now that Kade had been dealt with, it was time for Felix to take care of those ’countermeasures’ he had mentioned.
...Although, to be fair, there was only one. Most of the ideas Felix had came up with were about what to do if he were discovered - that is, when and how to escape from the town, if the worst came to worst. There was only one thing he could do now, before they arrived.
That is, to cover up his connection with Kade as much as possible.
It was quite simple, actually. Normally, silencing people was a difficult task - you had to either get rid of them (which was something Felix didn’t even take into consideration), threaten them with something, or strike a deal by paying for their silence... However, there was still no guarantee they wouldn’t spill your secrets when questioned. Unless they were dead or incapacitated to the point that any communication was impossible, of course. As long as they were alive, there was no guarantee...
Unless you had a way to alter their memories. After all, no one could spill any secrets, if they didn’t even know (or remember) them, right?
And that’s where the witch came in. With Remi’s help, he could make sure that anyone who could reveal his connection with Kade to the Misty Claw Pack had their memories altered. That was naturally Felix’s neighbors, who might have noticed Kade stop by sometimes, as well as all the people in the Crossroads, who knew about their affair quite well (apart from the fact that the two of them had been fated mates). Aside from them, there was also that rogue Beta, Brian. And Brielle, but she was spared from the spell, since she was trustworthy. With her own secret to protect - that is, her identity as a mermaid - she would surely never reveal anything, or else she might also end up in danger, captured and used as a medicine source.
To execute the plan, Remi personally approached everyone involved, casting spells on them, which fogged parts of their memories... The side effect was that they had also lost some of their memories of Felix. Not all of them, they still remembered that there had been someone like him working in Crossroads for a while... But all they could recall was that he had been quietly doing his job in the kitchen, nothing more. He was almost like a passing ghost...
It was quite sad, actually. Although Felix wasn’t particularly close with his former coworkers, as he had been trying to stay low-key and minded his own business... They had been working together for half a year, and got along well. With multiple people pretty much forgetting him, it almost felt as if his existence was being erased...
But there was no other choice. That was for his and his pup’s safety. This way, if the Misty Claw Pack came to Silverfall, they would only focus on the witch. They wouldn’t care about some random young man living with his daughter and his pet fox in a small house...
And if Felix wanted to befriend them in the future, there was nothing stopping him. The spell had only concealed the past, and had no effect on the future.
It all went smoothly. Remi knew the town and residents well. In just a few days, he managed to catch and enchant everyone who needed to be enchanted, leaving only one person. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Eden.
As he and Felix were friends, Felix wanted to discuss the issue with him first. Of course, he was still going to be put under the spell - while Felix did trust him a bit, his situation was quite different from Brielle’s. Not to mention his long tongue.... Felix had no confidence he wouldn’t let anything slip on accident - only that his spell would be a bit more... complex, so that the issue with Kade would be hidden, while they could still remain friends.
So, he invited Eden to his house, under the guise of catching up, since the Omega had missed the party at the witch’s house...

They sat down in Felix’s house, with tea and Eden’s favorite lemon cupcakes. Felix had especially bought them this morning, to serve them to his friend... Remi had even placed an enchantment on them, one that put everyone who ate them in a much better mood. Felix needed any help he could get, considering the request that he was going to make...
Who would want to have their memories altered, after all? It wouldn’t be weird at all if Eden didn’t take it too well!
The fox was now hiding on the bed, under the blanket, concealing his presence. Eden was also a werewolf, after all - it wouldn’t be weird if he suspected Remi’s real identity based on the scent. And since he was uncomfortable with the witch, Remi being present during their conversation might only make things worse. He was only supposed to appear later, once they came to an agreement, to cast a spell on the Omega.
At first, Felix kept the conversation cheerful and lively, by letting Eden talk. He chatted about all the latest gossip, everything that happened in Crossroads... While Felix had sipped his tea, just nodding his head as he listened. It was only after an hour or so, when Eden started slowly running out of new gossip to talk about, that Felix got to the point.
"There’s something I need to discuss with you," he said, putting down his cup.
Eden’s smile instantly faltered at Felix’s serious tone. He swallowed the last bite of the cupcake, brushing off the crumbs from his chin. "What... is it?" he asked, a bit reluctantly.
As if he had already expected that he wouldn’t like what he was going to hear.
Felix fiddled with his hands, trying to appear calm, as he collected his thoughts...
...He really should start preparing cheat notes for himself whenever he had to have a serious conversation. At least a general outline with the main points. Because each time he did, no matter how much he prepared beforehand, his mind would suddenly go blank!
But, at least there wasn’t much at stake this time. Just his friendship with Eden. Not that he didn’t care about it. Although their friendship wasn’t all that deep, and Felix was still reluctant to share most of his secrets with the Omega, Eden was still one of his only two friends in town... Three, if you include Remi. He had been very helpful to Felix, helping him get the job in the past, and it was nice to have his company from time to time... But even if they had a falling out, it wouldn’t put Felix and Vivi in danger. So, it wasn’t like with Kade, where his fate could potentially be overturned by one wrong word.
With that in mind, Felix took a deep breath, and explained, speaking slowly, "There’s a bit of an issue with... Kade. There’s a chance that spies from a different pack might come to Silverfall to investigate... And it could potentially put me in danger if our connection were to be discovered."
"Oh?" Eden lifted his brows. "Your connection? I thought you said there was nothing between you two?"
Felix frowned at his comment. Was it really the time for such stupid teasing?
Then again, Eden didn’t really understand the seriousness of the situation. Felix had purposely kept things vague, not wanting to reveal anything about the curse or the Misty Claw Pack. Even though Eden would have his memories altered anyway, the less he knew the better.
So, he just said, "We’re not together, but it’s true that Kade was pursuing me. And whether there is any affection between us or not, some people might still try to do something to me... For example, kidnap me, in hopes that they could use me against Kade. I’m just a rogue, after all, so they have nothing to loose. Even if they turn out to be wrong, it’s not like anyone would come to avenge me..."
"Aren’t you close with the witch? She... He would protect you, no?"
"The witch can’t be by my side 24/7," Felix sighed, shaking his head. Even though Remi actually was clinging to him almost all the time... "If they catch me when I’m alone, it might be too late by the time the witch realizes that I’m in danger... Which is why it would be the best if my connection with Kade wasn’t discovered at all."
"...That makes sense," Eden agreed. "Well, I promise you then that if anyone asks me about you, I won’t say a thing..."
"Actually," Felix interrupted. "I was hoping that... We could put you under a spell."
Eden flinched, his whole body tensing up, as if he was about to shoot up from his seat and make a run for it at any moment. "What kind of spell?"
"Nothing serious. Just one that will make it impossible for you to reveal anything about me and Kade to anyone," Felix rushed to explain. "It’s perfectly safe, and it doesn’t have any side effects, I promise..."
However, Eden wasn’t listening. "I... No. Do you... Do you not trust me?"
