I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 164: Do You Want To Know?
Chapter 164: Do You Want To Know?
At first, Remi was too stunned to say anything. He wasn’t prepared for this question. After all, it’s been so long, and Felix had never asked... So, he had lowered his guard. As a result, the sudden question took him by surprise.
It didn’t last too long, though. Soon, he blinked, snapping out of it, and let out a chuckle.
"Well, you’ve got me," he said, waving his hand at the cauldron with the potion he was brewing, before taking a step toward Felix. "There is indeed a reason for that... Do you want to know?" he asked, lowering his voice to a whisper. It was magnetic and seductive...
And it made Felix feel alarmed. His eyes narrowed, staring at Remi with suspicion.
The thing about Remi’s human form was undoubtedly a big secret. No matter how close they had gotten, Felix doubted that Remi would be so eager to reveal it to him.
Which meant that what the fox wanted to say most likely wasn’t the true reason.
He knew it, but he still had to ask, "What is it?"
"Well..." Remi smiled, leaning closer. He reached out his hand, and stroked Felix’s chin with his slender fingers, forcing him to lift his head. They were so close they were only inches away from kissing, Remi’s piercing blue eyes staring intently straight into Felix’s golden ones... Felix momentarily was out of breath, his head dizzy from the mesmerizing jasmine fragrance. Remi’s touch made his skin tingle, and he didn’t even realize when he leaned closer, his lashes fluttering as his eyelid slowly lowered...
"It’s because of you, of course," Remi whispered, his lips brushing against Felix’s with each word because of how close they were. He leaned even closer...
Just as he was about to capture Felix’s lips, the Omega unexpectedly pushed him away.
"Because of me?" he asked, looking at Remi, his eyes hazy but determined. Although his face was bright red, and his heart was thumping heavily in his chest, so loud that he could almost go deaf from the sound... He still maintained enough clarity to stop the fox. Not necessarily because he didn’t want it to continue... But because he knew that if he let Remi kiss him, he wouldn’t get any answer to his questions today, neither real nor fake.
Remi sighed sadly, putting a pitiful smile on his face. "Yes. You see, when I’m a fox... I can get closer to you," he turned his eyes away bashfully, as if what he was saying was making him too shy to look Felix in the eye. "I can cuddle with you as much as I want... Sleep in the same bed... But when I’m human..." He sighed again.
Felix stared at him, rendered speechless.
He really wanted to smack that lying fox on the head!
Did he really think that Felix would buy it? Was he so dumb in Remi’s eyes?
He couldn’t get close to Felix in his human form? As if! A moment ago, they had almost kissed. Who would believe a ridiculous excuse like that?
"Is that so?" Felix asked coldly, not amused.
"Yes, it is," Remi nodded his head, ignoring Felix’s dark expression. "So, if you want me to spend more time in my human form, how about..."
"No, thanks." Felix swatted away the unruly hand that threatened to pull him close again. "I don’t think there’s any need for that."
Remi sighed with disappointment. He lingered by the desk for a moment longer, before returning to the cauldron to continue with the potion he was brewing.
Felix’s eyes didn’t leave him this whole time. He observed as the man added some crushed herbs and stirred the potion, the color instantly changing, as the intense spicy and herbal fragrance filled the workshop...
"You’re really not going to tell?" he eventually asked.
But Remi only smiled in response. "There’s nothing to tell."
It was a lie, of course, and they both knew it. Felix was not so blind and dumb as not to notice anything. He had many clues... Such as, when he had visited the witch when the waning crescent was still relatively plump in the sky. Back then, he had stayed for a while... And he noticed that Remi was oddly pale, and seemed to be in pain. The whole thing with the moon phases in general was suspicious, how the witch tended to appear primarily around the new moon... Then there was how Brielle avoided the topic. She didn’t deny anything, she just said that Remi’s life is not in any immediate danger... And then there was Remi’s mother. She hadn’t said anything either, but there were a few moments and words that caught Felix’s attention.
And on top of that, it was something that the mermaid blood couldn’t help with. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
All things considered, there was certainly an important reason why Remi had stayed in his fox form most of the time. And if Felix were to take a guess...
It was a curse. A powerful curse that neither Remi nor his mother could undo. It still didn’t explain why Remi seemed to have been doing better recently, but...
Felix pressed his lips. Although he didn’t have much hope that he would be able to get an answer to begin with... Since he had already started, he might as well give it all that he had.
"Then why didn’t you shift back when we were attacked?" he asked calmly. "When Jared had broken into the house, I mean. You must have known you can’t defeat him in your fox form... But if you shifted, you could help me fend him off. Cast a spell, or something. So, why didn’t you? I was almost captured..."
Remi flinched. However, he still maintained his composure, and simply explained, "I didn’t want to expose myself as a shifter. I thought it would be better if he didn’t know... And I still had a way to defend you, didn’t I? With the potions I had prepared beforehand..."
Felix stared at Remi, slightly disappointed. It was such a flimsy excuse...
But if Remi was so determined to lie to him no matter what, then there was nothing Felix could do about it. He shut his mouth and lowered his head, staring blankly at the book in his hands.
