Chapter 181: Tactical Clothing Choices

When Felix showed up at the door connecting their rooms again, Kade was sitting by the table set with breakfast, the mouthwatering aroma of food and coffee wafting in the air. It wasn’t as fancy of a breakfast as they had at the hotel the day before - no oysters sprinkled with edible gold - but it still looked more like something cooked by a professional, high-class chef rather than a homemade meal.

Which it probably was.

"Want to eat something before we go?" Hearing the Omega enter, Kade lifted his eyes from his phone. "I had breakfast delivered to our room so that... What are you wearing?" As he looked at Felix, his grin immediately turned into a slight frown.

Felix plopped down on the seat. Although his stomach was all tied in knots from nerves, and he didn’t have much appetite, it was still better to swallow something, or else he wouldn’t have any energy later. The food was already here anyway, and once again, it was too much, even for both of them.

Was wasting food the norm for the Bloodmoon Pack?

"Why, do I look bad?" he asked, reaching out to scoop some scrambled eggs with bacon onto his plate.

"Of course not, you would look good in anything!" Kade smoothly denied. "But those clothes... Why won’t you wear something better? There are a lot of new clothes, bought specially for you, in the closet. Do they not fit?"

"They fit very well, thank you for your care. But I want to wear this today," Felix cut the discussion.

Kade, however, still seemed unconvinced. And there was a good reason for that - Felix was wearing worn-out clothes that he had bought from the second-hand shop in Silverfall. And those weren’t those ’rare finds’, but the plainest, simplest, most boring old clothes. Not the worst that he had - since Felix was going to meet the leader and the Luna of the pack, he knew he should look presentable - but compared to the clothes he had gotten from Kade... His current outfit left a lot to be desired.

It was a deliberate choice. Felix pondered over it a lot in the shower, and came to the conclusion that it was best to wear the cheap and old clothes he had bought himself. Why? So that Kade’s parents wouldn’t take him for a gold digger, of course! If he showed up in all those fancy clothes, which he obviously wouldn’t have been able to afford himself, that would be almost like announcing that he was with Kade for money... And they weren’t even together! Compared to that, it was better to be humble.

’I’m just a poor Omega taking shelter in the pack, but I have no intention of taking advantage of Kade, or the pack’s resources!’ was the image he was trying to portray. On top of that, he would offer to brew some simple potions for them, and do chores, whatever work they wanted to assign to him...

He didn’t need Kade’s parents to like him, since he had no plans of marrying into the family, but he needed them to tolerate him. At least enough to let him stay for a while. After all, if they chased him away, then Felix could only return to Silverfall... And he was even more reluctant to stay there now, after his runaway attempt. Who knows, Remi might cast a spell on him to make sure it wouldn’t happen again. Felix wanted to think that the fox wouldn’t do anything to him, but...

"By the way... Do you always eat breakfast in your room?" Felix asked, more to change the topic and avert his own attention from unpleasant thoughts, rather than out of genuine curiosity.

"No, I usually go to the dining room," Kade shook his head. "It’s just that you haven’t been introduced to the pack yet, so I thought it might be better to have breakfast in private today."

That was... a bit surprising. Back at the Moonhill Pack, Jared rarely ate in the dining room. Yes, he was a leader, while Kade was still just an heir... But still, considering the difference between their packs, Kade’s position was far more prestigious. So, by the nature of his status...

He didn’t get much time to think about it any further, though, because Kade switched back to the previous topic. "Are you sure you don’t want to get changed?" he asked. "I think it would be better for you to wear better clothes... If you don’t like the ones in the closet, how about we get your luggage from the car? I remember that you used to wear some of the clothes I had given you, so you must like at least some of them, right?"

Felix rubbed his furrowed forehead. His head still felt a bit heavy because he hadn’t slept well, and with Kade’s rambling, it was quickly developing into a headache. "Why do you care so much?" he sighed. "Although worn-out, the clothes I’ve chose shouldn’t be inappropriate... Unless your parents expect me to show up in a suit and tie?"

"No, that’s not it... But if you wear such cheap and old clothes, I’m going to get scolded..." Kade complained, but Felix only lifted his brows in response.

Scolded? Why would Kade get scolded for that? Was he trying to trick Felix into something?

Then again, since Kade wanted Felix to stay in the pack, he surely wouldn’t suggest anything that might cause the Omega to leave a bad impression on his parents, right? Felix hesitated for a moment...

In the end, though, he decided to trust his own decision. What Kade wanted and what he wanted were not the same - the Alpha was trying to make him his mate, while Felix wanted to stay low-key, and eventually leave. Because of that, he couldn’t entirely trust the Alpha’s advice.

"What about Vivi?" he just asked. "We cannot leave her alone here..."

"Oh, she’s coming with us, of course. My parents want to meet their granddaughter!" Kade smiled, leaving Felix momentarily stunned.

"Didn’t you say that they know the truth..."

"Well, yes, they know she’s not my biological child... But I’m still the father, no?" Kade flashed his teeth in a wide grin.

Felix... just stared blankly at him, speechless.
