Chapter 184: Endless Chat

The meeting with Kade’s parents lasted for almost an hour. But for Felix, it felt even longer. If someone had told him that he had been sitting there the whole day, he might have believed it. Not because the meeting was so unpleasant, or tense, or because it was boring... After discussing the seventh-month birthday party for a while, they switched to more lighthearted topics. Just some gossip about what was going on in the Bloodmoon Pack, as well as other packs they were close with. Not political stuff, just some easy chatter. It was mostly Lorelei and Kade talking, with Felix only responding when directly addressed.

It was probably meant to make him feel more comfortable and at home. Ease him into his new environment, and give him an idea about the pack dynamics - a more positive one that he had witnessed the previous night, with the parade of the Omegas hunting Kade. It would have been a nice gesture...

Except that Felix was too nervous to relax and enjoy the conversation.

Actually, all this niceness only made him even more anxious. Yes, he wanted to make a decent impression on Kade’s parents, so that they wouldn’t toss him out of the pack... But this level of welcomeness was too much! He felt as if Kade’s parents, especially Lorelei, were treating him as if he were already their family... Or, well, at least as if it was certain that he would become their son-in-law, and it was only a matter of time before he and Kade would tie the knot.

Which wasn’t the case, not at all!

Then again, perhaps it was just because his view of family treatment was a bit skewed that he felt that way. After all, his own mother had died when he was still quite young, and when it came to his father, their relationship had always been distant and cold...

Either way, he wasn’t used to receiving so much warmth and attention. Remi’s mother might have treated him similarly, but somehow, it felt different... More casual, and easier to take as a joke. Although she was a powerful witch, she was dressed in old jeans and a jumper, normal and everyday stuff. They also met in the cozy and cluttered workshop in the witch’s house in Silverfall... Meanwhile, Kade’s parents were both dressed in expensive clothes, receiving him in a luxurious and stylish reception room.

The two simply couldn’t be compared. Maybe it was because he was a werewolf and the status of the supreme pack naturally put too much pressure on him, but Felix was so tense he could hardly think straight...

And even when the tea time finally ended, Felix still wasn’t freed from his suffering. Because as they stood up, Lorelei smiled at him,

"Should we go now? The city is just a short drive away, but we have a lot of stores to visit, so the sooner we leave, the better!"

Felix groaned inwardly. He was hoping that since the meeting had lasted so long (or had it? Honestly, he couldn’t tell), Lorelei would forget about what they had talked about earlier. Or perhaps she would have some Luna duties to attend to, which would force her to take a rain check...

Unfortunately, as if guessing what he was thinking, she soon explained, "I have cleared my schedule for the next two days. You don’t need to worry about anything. If we don’t finish shopping today, we can continue tomorrow! Perhaps, aside from your clothes, we should also take a look at home decor? We had your room prepared, but I don’t know if it’s up to your taste..."

To be honest, Felix didn’t know either. He hadn’t really given it a thought. However, if he were to have any complaints...

Then it would be that the room was too fancy. Everything there seemed so expensive... Well, or so he assumed. It’s not like he could assess furniture and home decor well. But judging by Kade’s standards and his past shopping experiences, there was no way that the Alpha put any cheap items there! So, spending more money on decorating the place was the last thing the room needed, at least as far as Felix was concerned!

He twisted his lips in a polite smile, as he responded, "Thank you for your offer, Ma’am, but I think my room is great as it is. There’s no need for anything else..."

"Is that so?" Lorelei didn’t seem discouraged. "We can still take a look, though, in case something catches your eye!"

...Mission failed.

Felix held back a sigh. There was only one last line of defense.

"About Vivi..."

"You can leave her at the nursery... Or, perhaps it would be better if I recommend a personal nanny for her," Lorelei suggested. However, Felix’s face only fell further, so she added, "You can also take her with us, if you prefer. Actually, now that I think about it, that would be a better idea... It might be difficult for her to adjust to the new environment, if you’re not by her side."

...Felix didn’t know whether he should feel disappointed or relieved. On one hand, he was disappointed that he hadn’t managed to get himself out of the shopping trip with Lorelei (ALONE with Lorelei. Kade wasn’t allowed to come, as it was supposed to be Lorelei and Felix’s bonding moment)... While on the other, he was glad that the woman was so understanding.

He would feel uneasy to leave Vivi at the Bloodmoon Pack. Not just because he was worried she might not adjust well, or grow anxious because of him. Rather because... He didn’t know anyone here. He didn’t trust the Bloodmoon Pack members, especially not Omegas. Yes, perhaps they wouldn’t dare to hurt ’Kade’s’ pup... But still...

He needed more time before he could be willing to entrust anyone with taking care of Vivi, be it Lorelei, or a nanny recommended by her. At least for now, he needed to have her by his side at all times. If anyone tried to plot anything, whatever it was... He would make sure to protect his pup well.
