I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 183: Once Again, Not a Mate
Chapter 183: Once Again, Not a Mate
Lorelei shook her head with disapproval. "Is that how you treat your mate?"
Faced with his mother’s criticism, Kade threw Felix a sulky glance, full of complaints. ’See? I’ve told you it would be that way!’ was written all over his face.
Felix couldn’t help but sigh. The situation was beyond his expectations. But, he had to point out, "Um... Ma’am, I’m sorry, but... I’m not Young Master Kade’s mate."
Lorelei huffed in response. "And now I understand why!"
Felix stared at her, once more rendered speechless.
Umm, Ma’am? Whose side are you on?
He glanced back at Kade, but the Alpha just turned his head to the side, sulking. Since Felix was the one to insist on wearing old clothes, even though Kade had asked him to do otherwise, it was now Felix’s responsibility to fix that and explain!
Helpless, Felix turned his eyes to Einar Blackstone. Surely as the leader of the pack, Einar would be more reasonable...?
But no. Einar nodded his head solemnly. "Your mother is right. You should have done better. If you want to court an Omega, you should show them that you will care for them..."
And as if it wasn’t enough, he added a moment later, "He even still calls you ’Young Master’. While it’s good for you to ensure that you’re treated with respect appropriate for your status, such terms create unnecessary emotional distance with your mate!"
...Once again, not a mate. But Felix was too dumbfounded to point that out. Besides, he was already uneasy enough correcting Lorelei, the Luna, let alone Einar, the leader!
He just sighed quietly, and explained, "Young... I mean, Kade didn’t do anything wrong. He had tried to court me properly. He has bought me clothes as well as baby supplies, he has also offered me game that he had personally hunted..."
Lorelei’s expression eased slightly at Felix’s words. However, she was still not entirely pacified. "It’s good that he had put effort into it... However, I assume that the clothes he has bought you must not have been satisfactory, since you still prefer to wear old rags..."
Old rags? That was quite a harsh judgment. But then again, compared to the Blackstone trio’s high-end attire, Felix must have looked like a Cinderella, or worse!
Felix’s shoulders dropped helplessly. He wasn’t offended by Lorelei’s comment... But what was he supposed to say now? Even if he wanted to explain and defend Kade, if he said that he had chosen to dress that way so that he wouldn’t be taken for a gold digger... Wouldn’t that make him look too calculative? Perhaps Kade’s parents would think that he was trying to elicit their sympathy by pretending to be humble...
He had no idea what to do. No matter what options he chose, there was a chance it might backfire. He knew next to nothing about Kade’s parents, aside from a bit about how they were in official, inter-pack contacts, so it was hard for him to guess what was the best way to ensure he would have a peaceful relationship with them during his stay. Maybe he was overthinking it, since so far, they were nothing but nice to him, only scolding Kade, but...
"Don’t worry about it," seeing Felix’s complicated expression, Lorelei’s voice softened. "After the tea, I will take you out shopping. You can pick whatever clothes you like then!"
Felix’s shoulders dropped even lower. freёweɓnovel_com
That really wasn’t the problem here!
But Lorelei wasn’t ASKING, she was TELLING Felix that they were going to go. While it wasn’t necessarily an order... Felix didn’t feel secure enough to say ’no’. Not yet, at least. He glanced at Kade, but seeing that the Alpha had no intention of rescuing him from this predicament, he had no choice but to try subtly, "I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you..."
Which was immediately rejected.
"Nonsense!" Lorelei waved her hand. "You’re my son’s potential mate, I would be more than glad to spend time with you, and get to know you better."
When she put it that way... Once again, Felix didn’t see himself as Kade’s mate, not even a potential one, but he found himself unable to reject Lorelei without coming across as rude. Thus, he could only nod his head. "In that case, I will trouble you today..."
Lorelei smiled, satisfied with his answer. The way she grinned, and how she coaxed Felix into agreeing, kind of reminded him of Kade... It seemed that while the Alpha inherited his looks after his father, when it came to his character, he took more after his mother...
Honestly, Felix didn’t know whether that was a good thing. With this mother and son duo, if he wasn’t careful, he might wake up one day suddenly realizing that he had somehow bonded with Kade, had been marked, and had more children on the way!
He didn’t have time to ponder over this terrifying (or not?) vision, because Lorelei had already changed the topic.
"Vivi’s seventh-month birthday is on the 14th, if I’m not wrong. It’s a bit on a short notice, but how about we host a party, and officially introduce you two to the pack then?" she suggested, sipping her tea. Black tea, very fragrant. Most likely some premium brew, although Felix didn’t know enough about tea to be able to tell. "Then, on the eight-month birthday, we can host a larger party, and make an official introduction to other packs..."
"Um, I’m sorry to interrupt," Felix hesitantly cut in, biting his lip nervously. "But... Is it really a good idea to make it so grand? Vivi... She’s not actually Kade’s pup..."
He didn’t say the rest out loud, but what he meant was that Kade’s claiming paternity was just a temporary solution, to give him and Vivi a position within the pack that would justify their presence. It wasn’t a permanent thing. And the grander they made it, the harder it would be to explain it later... Especially with informing the other packs, was that really necessary? Felix preferred to stay low-key...
Luckily, Kade understood his concerns, and finally decided to step in to help.
"Let’s just host the inner party for now," he said. "As for the introduction to our allied packs and other supremes... I believe that it can wait. Perhaps we can consider hosting the party on the first birthday? Either way, it’s not too late to introduce her later..."
Lorelei thought about it for a moment, but eventually, she nodded her head. "Alright. Let’s hold back for now, then."
Felix secretly exhaled with relief. Although Kade had only bought him a few months... Within a few months, a lot could change. Who knows, maybe he would be back in Silverfall by then?
