Chapter 35: Paying for Damages

Despite, or maybe because of, his embarrassing retreat, Kade showed up at Felix’s doorstep again the very next day in the morning. With several shopping bags and a cake in his hands.

"This is to pay you back for that, uh, scarf," he said, lifting the bags to show them almost as soon as Felix opened the door. "And this is to apologize for touching your stuff without asking first," he pointed at the cake with his chin. "I hope it’s to your liking?"

Although he still was convinced he didn’t do anything all that wrong - the destruction of that knitted monstrosity was the fox’s fault! - Kade knew that his love life was on the line... And on top of that, if he was willing to apologize, that would grant him another opportunity to not only bother Felix, but also shower him with gifts! How could he let such a chance go?

So, he smiled apologetically, pretending that he was ashamed of his earlier behavior.

Even though both of them knew he was not.

Standing out on the porch - he stepped outside, so that Kade wouldn’t invite himself in - Felix eyed the paper shopping bags hesitantly. He could most definitely use some new clothes, but... frёeωebɳovel.com

Truth be told, he wasn’t actually angry about the destroyed scarf abomination. It was worth less than the wool used to knit it, because the intact wool could at least be put to a good use if it ended up in more deft hands! Chances of selling it were nonexistent, and Felix had no use for it either - he already had so many hand-knitted scarf-like things to last him for years!

Still, it was his creation, so he had every right to value it more than it was worth. So, after giving it some thought, he nodded his head. "I suppose I can accept that. I’m glad that you are at least trying to repay me for damages."

"Yes, yes," Kade nodded energetically, not even trying to suppress his grin. "Although it’s not much, so I’m sure it still doesn’t make up for your destroyed masterpiece!"

...Felix could probably buy a whole ton of wool for his knitting projects with the same money Kade used to buy those clothes. While he wasn’t familiar with most of the logos on the bags, he recognized one - Jared had one shirt from that brand. It was his favorite shirt, and it was supposed to be super expensive... Not something the pack could waste their money on.

It felt weird to wear such clothes now, as a poor rogue, when he couldn’t even really afford them before. Still, clothes were clothes, so Felix accepted the bags. "That’s alright. Since it was an accident, I won’t charge you for it as much as I normally would."

There was no price tag on his creation, so you could say it was priceless!

Felix grabbed the bags, trying not to touch Kade’s hand in the process. Which was hard, because even when he already got hold of the bags, Kade still wouldn’t let go!

"Um, is there a problem?" Felix lifted his brows. "I thought the bags were for me."

"Ah, yes, of course. The thing is, I didn’t know your size, so I’m not sure if the clothes fit well! You should try them now, so that I can exchange them if needed."

"...I’m sure they’ll be fine."

"No, we can’t do that! I can’t possibly give you clothes in the wrong size as a recompense for destroying your masterpiece!" Kade insisted. Even though it was all too obvious from his grin that confirming the fit wasn’t his true goal.

For a moment, Felix just stood there, staring at Kade, as he weighed the options in his mind. What would help him get rid of the Alpha quicker, continuing this stupid argument, or going along with his wishes and trying on the clothes?

In the end, as much as Felix didn’t want to go along with what Kade wanted, trying on the clothes still won.

"Fine," he sighed, opening the front door and coming back inside the house. "But as soon as I try them on, you are going to leave, are we clear? I am a busy man."

"Eeeh? Are we not even going to share the cake?" Kade whined.

"I thought it was for me, as an apology? So why are you now trying to steal some from me?"

Kade blinked a few times, before bursting out laughing. "You really like your cake so much, huh?"

"Not particularly," Felix shrugged his shoulders. "I prefer savory food, actually."

But free food was free food. It might not have been his favorite, but Felix could still enjoy the cake just fine.

"Oh? Then should I bring you something different next time?"

"What next time?" Felix deadpanned, finally snatching the shopping bags from Kade’s hand. Then, not waiting for an answer, he walked straight to the bathroom, where he could lock in and change in peace.

Luckily, the clothes Kade had bought were normal. Two pairs of jeans, two pairs of cotton pants and one woolen pair, several sweaters and cotton tops, a blazer, a jacket, and two pairs of shoes, one winter, and one spring. It was... a lot. To the point that Felix felt uneasy, accepting it all, regardless of what excuse they ’agreed’ on.

Still, backing out now would get messy as well, so he pulled his hoodie over his head, and quickly started changing into new clothes.

They fit surprisingly well, almost as if Kade had a measuring tape in his eyes. Maybe a bit loose, but if Felix was at his old weight, it would have fitted perfectly... So maybe Kade accommodated for that? So that the clothes would fit perfectly once Felix gained some weight back, as he should? If so... Felix honestly didn’t know whether he should be impressed or creeped out.

Well, either way, Kade was wrong. Soon enough, those clothes wouldn’t fit so well, since Felix’s belly would grow with his pup... But hopefully, the Alpha wouldn’t be around to see that.

Dressed up in the new clothes - a pair of skinny jeans and a beige relaxed fit sweater, Felix unlocked the door, and stepped out back to where Kade was. He had a feeling that even if he said the clothes fit perfectly, the Alpha wouldn’t be willing to take him on his word. The quickest way to get it over with was simply to show.
