Chapter 89: Lingering Taste

Even after Kade’s black car had long disappeared, Felix still stood on the porch, staring into the distance in a daze. The cold seeped through his wet clothes - wet, because that stupid Alpha had to embrace him while being completely soaked. Alas, if he knew something like that might happen, Felix wouldn’t have taken off his rain jacket... - but it hardly registered in his mind. The scent of sandalwood mixed with his milk chocolate pheromones still hung in the cool, humid air, effectively trapping the Omega in that short, but passionate moment...

It wasn’t until Remi started scratching the door and banging his paws, impatient and annoyed about Felix’s prolonged absence, that he finally snapped out of it. He picked up the soggy bouquet - it was completely ruined, far beyond saving, but it still didn’t feel right to just abandon it on the porch - and stepped back inside.

Remi scoffed angrily, scrunching his snout as he sensed the sandalwood fragrance. How much the fox knew about what had happened, Felix didn’t know, but he was still too distracted to even think about it.

So it was over. After over half a year full of turmoil, worries, annoyance, concern, and frustrating attraction caused by the pull of the bond (and perhaps in part by Kade’s handsomeness. Now that their fated mate bond had been broken, Felix could admit that much. Only to himself, though), his and Kade’s ill-matched connection was no longer.

Honestly... Felix didn’t know how to feel. There was a strange emptiness in his chest, which was still aching from the rejection ritual. But more than that...

He could still feel the touch of Kade’s lips on his. His taste lingering on his tongue. His hot, broad, muscular chest pressed against his. How was it so hot even when drenched in the cold rain, Felix had no idea. Kade’s strong arm wrapped around his waist, holding him tightly...

’Something to remember me by.’

Damn. The Alpha sure knew how to make sure he couldn’t be easily forgotten! Felix almost felt regretful that...

He shook his head energetically, chasing the thought away. No, what was he even thinking? ’Regretful that’ what? That he wasn’t going to get together with him? Why, just because that short moment on the porch felt so good? So what! Who cared if Kade was a good kisser? There were other, that is, more important qualities a mate should have than just being good with their tongue!

Felix grumbled inwardly at his own unruly thoughts, as he stomped to the kitchen to put the flowers in water. He didn’t know how to properly handle such a soaked bouquet, and he wasn’t in a state of mind to look it up online, so he just did what he would have normally done. Whether it would help the flowers or not, it didn’t really matter all that much, they would wilt in a few days anyway... And besides, that was all Kade’s fault!

He left the bouquet in a tall glass on the kitchen counter, and went to his room, throwing himself on the bed. Completely forgetting that his clothes were still wet. Which, once again, was Kade’s fault, for hugging Felix while being drenched in rain! But it was hard to remember he had to get changed when that porch scene was still replaying in his head... Felix lifted his hand, pressing his fingers against his slightly swollen lips...

And started rolling around on the bed, covering his burning face. It wasn’t his first kiss, since that had already been stolen by Jared, but it was the first kiss he had ever enjoyed...

Even though their bond had already been broken at that point, so Felix couldn’t possibly use that as an excuse.

Ah, it was just so frustrating! It was all because of that damned fated mate bond (that no longer existed) that he had to go through it all in the first place!

It was good that at least his wolf remained quiet, sulking. Or hurt, maybe? Since the bond had been broken, it must have suffered some backlash as well, and possibly the wolf took it harder than Felix himself. But he was too preoccupied with thinking about Kade to give it all a second thought.

How ridiculous. Now that they were over, the Alpha was stuck in his mind even more than before!

As he lay on the bed, mumbling and grumbling, his face flushed bright red, he didn’t even realize when Remi had jumped onto the bed, and started nudging him with his paws and nose. He pushed Felix around, but Felix was not responsive. Even when Remi started licking Felix’s hands, there was still no reaction. There was some incomprehensible mumbling after the fox had licked Felix’s ear, but that was about it. Remi then tried to lick the Omega’s face, but with Felix’s hands covering it up, he couldn’t gain much access.

Eventually, frustrated and irritated to no end, Remi stomped his paws on the bed for a while, letting out annoyed snorts, before he wiggled himself under Felix’s shirt. To which the Omega still didn’t react!

Really, it was almost insulting. Remi snuggled up to Felix’s bare chest, but the Omega still thought about Kade? How outrageous!

Still, Remi let it slide. He had heard the conversation, so he knew that annoying Alpha was gone now and wouldn’t be back anytime soon. So what if he had stolen Felix’s kiss and his attention for one evening? He would no longer matter soon enough!

So, Remi nested himself comfortably on the Omega’s chest, and started releasing his jasmine pheromones to repel that hateful sandalwood scent, while at the same time also casting a little spell to dry Felix’s clothes. Vivi was asleep and quiet now, and even when she woke up later, and Felix got up to feed her, there was no guarantee he would remember to change his wet clothes!

And it would be a shame if his little wolf caught a cold.
