Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 120: Loss of Composure
Serena Hughes glanced again at the sunglasses in Cecilia Nathan’s hand, her face turning pale.
"Why can’t it be me?" Cecilia found her reaction somewhat amusing. "You’re so enthusiastic, you’re scaring me."
Serena Hughes was usually insincere with her, but she had never been this nice before.
Hearing the word "enthusiastic," a fire of rage ignited in Serena Hughes’s heart.
"Cecilia Nathan..." Serena Hughes gritted her teeth. "It’s the middle of winter. What are you doing wearing sunglasses here!"
"Because I like to. You got a problem with that?" Cecilia put the sunglasses back on, her red lips curling up slightly. "Miss Hughes, respecting other people’s fashion choices is a sign of good character."
Seeing her put them back on, Serena Hughes lost control and yanked Cecilia’s sunglasses off. "Stop wearing them. It’s disgusting."
In the past, she would have been able to control her emotions, at least to some degree.
But the whiplash of the last few moments made the emotions Serena Hughes had been bottling up come crashing down.
She had been all prepared to suck up to Selina Nathan, only to find that the person who showed up was Cecilia Nathan.
Cecilia had seen her entire fawning act.
Humiliation. This was utter humiliation.
Serena Hughes’s movement was so rough as she snatched the glasses that she nearly poked Cecilia in the eye.
"Serena!" Fiona Sinclair shouted angrily, pulling Serena Hughes back to her senses. "That was incredibly rude."
Serena Hughes’s breath caught.
Only then did she notice that her dramatic actions had attracted a crowd. People were starting to stare, enjoying the show.
The hand Serena Hughes was holding the sunglasses with began to feel scorching hot.
Fiona Sinclair strode over, took the sunglasses, and politely offered them back to Cecilia. "My apologies, Miss Cecilia Nathan. Serena isn’t in a good mood today and lost her composure."
Cecilia took the glasses, the corner of her mouth twitching. "It’s fine."
When Fiona Sinclair saw her put the sunglasses on again, a thought struck her.
’It’s no wonder Serena lost control. I’ve met this Cecilia a few times myself. She doesn’t usually wear sunglasses, but she just had to wear them today...’
’Most importantly, Cecilia Nathan... Selina Nathan... their names are so similar.’
’Could it be... that Cecilia Nathan *is* Selina Nathan?’
The speculation startled Fiona Sinclair.
Looking at Serena Hughes’s pale face, Fiona Sinclair knew her granddaughter had also considered this possibility.
"I’m sorry, Miss Nathan. I apologize on Serena’s behalf."
Cecilia sneered. "An apology... Doesn’t she have a mouth of her own?"
Serena Hughes’s eyes reddened. "Grandma, you don’t have to say that to her. I’ll apologize..."
"Cecilia..." Frances Bennett, who was standing nearby, couldn’t watch anymore. "Serena Hughes didn’t do it on purpose. President Sinclair has already apologized to you. You should just let it go. Be a good girl and listen."
In truth, Frances Bennett meant well with her words.
Frances Bennett thought she knew why Cecilia was acting out.
But as for the idea that Cecilia Nathan was actually Selina Nathan, Frances Bennett absolutely refused to believe it.
Back when Cecilia was pursuing Damian, she had tried every trick in the book, finally resorting to threatening her own life just to stay by his side.
She had even frequently offered to cook for Frances just to get on her good side.
If she were really Selina Nathan, she could have stayed with Damian just by revealing her identity. She certainly wouldn’t have needed to go to the trouble of cooking to suck up to Frances.
She knew Fiona Sinclair’s temperament better than anyone. If Cecilia, with no powerful background, offended Fiona Sinclair, her life would certainly become difficult.
’Let it go...’ The more Cecilia listened to Frances Bennett, the more ridiculous it sounded.
"Yes, Cecilia. This is the current head of the Sinclair Family. You’re still young, you should just let the little things go..." Frances Bennett repeated in a low voice.
Cecilia gave Fiona Sinclair a cool glance and sneered, "The Sinclair Family? Is the Sinclair Family supposed to be a big deal?"
Seeing that she was completely intractable, Frances Bennett quickly shut her mouth.
Frances expected Fiona Sinclair to get angry. But instead, Fiona smiled, took Cecilia’s hand, and said softly, "You’re right. Our Sinclair Family is just an ordinary family, nothing special. Frances calls you Cecilia, so I will too. Why don’t you tell Grandma, did you come here today for coffee, or..."
"What else would I do at a coffee shop besides drink coffee?" Cecilia smiled, but she didn’t directly answer Fiona Sinclair’s question.
’From Fiona Sinclair’s and Serena Hughes’s attitudes, it was obvious what they were scheming.’
"Are you really just here for coffee?" Fiona Sinclair’s tone clearly grew cold.
"Yes." After speaking, Cecilia waved to a waiter. "Excuse me, is my takeout order ready yet?"
"Just a moment, miss. We’re rushing your order now."
’A takeout order, not even placed in the shop. That means she doesn’t plan on staying long.’
’She’s probably not Selina Nathan.’
Fiona Sinclair’s heart went completely cold.
Serena Hughes’s eyes, however, lit up.
’Good, very good!’
’Thank goodness Cecilia isn’t Selina Nathan. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.’
"Grandma, are we still going to wait?"
"We wait." Fiona Sinclair’s gaze darkened.
An opportunity like this was rare. She absolutely had to meet Selina Nathan today.
In truth, her desire to meet Selina Nathan today went beyond simply building a relationship. Her sister had a grandson who was said to be remarkably handsome but was still unmarried.
If he and Selina Nathan could be matched up, it would be a wonderful thing.
Cecilia, unaware of the calculations running through Fiona’s mind, leisurely found a seat and waited for her coffee.
Just then, the bodyguards from the booth started walking in Cecilia’s direction.
This scene did not escape Fiona Sinclair’s eyes.
She stood up, staring intently at the bodyguards.
Seeing this, Serena Hughes’s expression froze, and her fingers tightened.
Frances Bennett naturally saw it too. Her eyes widened, and her heart began to race.
’Those bodyguards... what’s going on?’
"Miss Nathan, hello." A bodyguard stood before Cecilia, smiling, his tone respectful.
At this scene, Fiona Sinclair, Serena Hughes, and Frances Bennett all gaped in astonishment.
These bodyguards were being so respectful to Cecilia.
’Could it be that Cecilia Nathan really *is* Selina Nathan?’
A thousand thoughts raced through Frances Bennett’s mind, and she even broke out in a cold sweat.
’No, this is impossible!’
"Can I help you?" Cecilia raised a slight eyebrow, looking at the bodyguards with a smile. "And you are?"
"Our old master would like to meet you."
"Meet me?" Cecilia was noncommittal.
Just then, the waiter brought over the packaged coffee and placed it on the table.
Cecilia picked up the coffee, her expression calm. "And who is your old master?"
"Our old master’s name is Linden Nathan," the bodyguard said patiently.
Hearing their polite conversation, the anxiety that had gripped Serena Hughes eased.
And Frances Bennett let out an even bigger sigh of relief.
To be honest, between Cecilia Nathan and Sharon Quincy, she much preferred Sharon Quincy to be Selina Nathan.
If Cecilia was Selina Nathan, then her whole life would have been one giant, absurd mistake!
"Oh." Cecilia pursed her lips. "Lead the way."
"Wait, hold on!" Fiona Sinclair hurried over to the bodyguards. "Did you say Linden Nathan wants to see her? Why does Linden Nathan want to see her?"
"I know," Serena Hughes interjected. "It’s because Mr. Nathan’s goddaughter got hit by a car because of her. I heard she lost an arm and is still lying in the hospital."
