Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 134: Please, You Must Help Him
"She’s a professional, but I don’t plan on being a professional caregiver." Cecilia shot May Rhodes a sidelong glance and said slowly, "Why don’t we leave the professional work to the professionals? I’m not playing along."
With that, Cecilia picked up her things and prepared to leave, but May Rhodes quickly grabbed her. "Miss Cecilia Nathan, I was asking for too much. You don’t have to follow this. After all... I’ll be busy preparing for my future with Damian, and I really won’t have the time. How about this, do you need payment? Just think of it as taking on an extra job." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Hearing this, Cecilia laughed out of sheer anger.
"No need. As long as I don’t have to follow your ’professional’ requirements, I can do without the payment."
Perhaps afraid Cecilia would go back on her word, May Rhodes said goodbye to Damian Hawthorne and left.
Cecilia tossed her things aside and said to Damian Hawthorne, "I’ll only take care of you for ten days. If your eyes aren’t better within ten days, I’m not looking after you anymore."
"Ten days... is enough." Damian Hawthorne’s lips curved. "Starting today, while I’m in this hospital room, you’ll sleep here too. The day after tomorrow, I’m going back to the Hawthorne Family villa to recuperate, and you’re coming with me."
"You’re having me go back to the Hawthorne villa? Aren’t you afraid your dear Luna will get jealous?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow. "You two are preparing for your lifelong commitment. It wouldn’t be right for me to stay at your house."
"We’ve already slept together, so there’s nothing wrong with it." Damian Hawthorne leaned against the side of the bed and casually picked up a book, flipping through it.
It was a book titled *Intimate Relationships*. Damian Hawthorne flipped through a few pages before casually tossing it aside.
Just then, Justin Bell rushed in.
"President Hawthorne, we have a lead on Finn Hawthorne."
Hearing Finn Hawthorne’s name, Cecilia looked up and turned to Justin Bell anxiously. "Assistant Bell, what about Finn Hawthorne? Is he okay?"
Justin Bell sighed softly. "We can’t find anything on Finn Hawthorne’s current situation, but I was able to find out about his relationship with Walter Wallace and Sharon Quincy."
"They’re all from the same orphanage. Back when Sharon Quincy came up with this plan, Walter Wallace and Finn Hawthorne were both present. And for his sister’s medical treatment, it seems Finn Hawthorne agreed to their terms."
"So... Finn Hawthorne and Walter Wallace pulling a disappearing act together now... it’s highly likely the two of them have fled."
Damian Hawthorne narrowed his eyes, his long fingers toying with the book in his hand. He had an air of utter boredom, both languid and casual.
"Impossible!" Cecilia quickly cut in. "Finn Hawthorne isn’t that kind of person."
Damian Hawthorne looked up, his brown eyes like a pool of stagnant water. "Then what kind of person is he? You seem to know him very well."
A flicker crossed Cecilia’s eyes. Her voice was like a clear, trickling stream.
"Yes, I do."
"He was severely injured for my sake. For that reason alone, I can’t see him as a bad person."
"Between you and his sister, you think you’re more important?" Damian Hawthorne let out an exasperated laugh. "Cecilia, you’re too naive."
"Speculating now is useless." Cecilia turned her head to look at Justin Bell. "Can you find a way to locate Finn Hawthorne?"
"We can’t. We’ve filed a missing person report with the police, but even with surveillance cameras everywhere, there’s no trace of him." Seeing Justin Bell’s helpless expression, Cecilia’s heart clenched painfully.
"Could it be... that he’s been killed?"
’That dream was just too strange.’
’If it weren’t for that dream, she wouldn’t be this worried about Finn Hawthorne.’
The atmosphere fell into a heavy silence.
Damian Hawthorne lowered his gaze and said lightly, "You’re overthinking it. People don’t die that easily."
However, seeing Justin Bell’s hesitant expression, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back, Damian Hawthorne’s brow furrowed tightly.
"Step outside for a moment. I have something to say to Justin Bell."
After Cecilia left, Damian Hawthorne’s voice turned cold. "Speak."
"President Hawthorne, the police also suspect... that Finn Hawthorne may have been killed."
Damian Hawthorne’s grip on the book tightened, and he lowered his voice. "Are you sure?"
"Not certain. But the police found that Finn Hawthorne disappeared after entering a factory. They’re still searching the area at the foot of the mountain, so we should have news soon." Thinking of Finn Hawthorne, Justin Bell’s voice grew somber.
’Finn Hawthorne was a decent-looking guy, but he came from a poor background.’
’If he’d had a different background, his life might have been completely different.’
"Don’t let Cecilia know about this for now."
’The thought of how Cecilia would be if Finn Hawthorne died...’ Damian felt his chest tighten, as if gripped by a vice.
’First Miles Sinclair, now Finn Hawthorne.’
’If those two were alive, it would be one thing, but if they died... they would be forever enshrined in Cecilia’s heart.’
"No matter what, we can’t let Finn Hawthorne die." Damian Hawthorne squeezed his eyes shut, his voice hoarse.
’Wasn’t Miles Sinclair dying enough? If Finn Hawthorne dies too...’
Cecilia was just outside the door. She hadn’t meant to eavesdrop, but she’d faintly heard Finn Hawthorne’s name.
Cecilia instinctively perked up her ears and moved closer to the door.
When she heard the word "killed," Cecilia froze.
After that, Cecilia couldn’t register anything else Damian Hawthorne and Justin Bell were saying.
She impulsively pushed the door open and walked, step by step, until she stood before Damian Hawthorne.
"What happened to Finn Hawthorne?" Cecilia’s voice trembled.
Seeing her come in, Damian Hawthorne looked up, his tone softening. "Don’t worry. The police haven’t confirmed anything yet."
"When did something happen to him? Would this have been prevented if we had found out sooner?"
She couldn’t describe the feeling, but Cecilia felt her heart go numb all over again.
’She had seen people die several times in her life.’
’A lover, a classmate.’
’Each time, she felt a bone-deep agony.’
Seeing Cecilia’s vacant expression, Damian Hawthorne’s chest tightened.
’He had seen her mischievous side and her cold side, but he had almost never seen her look like this, as if her very soul had been drained away.’
’She was like a blooming flower that had suddenly withered, devoid of life.’
"Don’t worry. I’ve already sent people to look for him. I will make sure his safety is the top priority." Damian Hawthorne’s voice softened instinctively.
’Logically, he should despise a person like this for a lifetime.’
’But the thought that Finn Hawthorne had been sexually assaulted by another man, and was now missing... it gradually drained away his animosity.’
’Finn Hawthorne was truly a pitiful man.’
"Damian Hawthorne, please, you have to help him." Cecilia’s eyes grew red, her voice strangled and painfully hoarse. "I know you have extensive connections in Korsyth. Finn Hawthorne has never done anything truly wicked. If he dies, I’m afraid I’ll never have peace of mind for the rest of my life."
"He won’t die." Seeing her state, Damian Hawthorne gently patted her shoulder. "It’ll be okay. Don’t worry."
The words had barely left his mouth when Justin Bell’s phone rang.
Justin Bell quickly answered. As he listened to the person on the other end, his expression stiffened slightly.
After he hung up, Cecilia stared at him intently. "Assistant Bell, is there news about Finn Hawthorne?"
Justin Bell glanced at his boss. Only after seeing him nod did he turn to Cecilia and say, "Walter Wallace has turned himself in."
