Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 174: Then Do You Know Who I Am?
Damian Hawthorne didn’t want Cecilia Nathan to marry Miles Sinclair, but the way this woman was insulting her was just vile.
"Who the hell are you?" Damian Hawthorne stood there with a devil-may-care slouch, his eyes narrowed lazily. "Who she marries is none of your business. My Cecilia could marry anyone on Veridia’s A-list, let alone Miles Sinclair, and it wouldn’t be an issue."
Hearing this, Cecilia looked up, her heart giving a violent thud.
Damian Hawthorne always called her "Cecilia." It was that intimacy that had kept her under a delusion for so long.
It wasn’t until Serena Hughes appeared that she finally realized Damian Hawthorne didn’t actually like her.
But those two words, "my Cecilia," were like a spell, sending her heart into a frenzy.
Zoe Lynch hadn’t expected Damian Hawthorne to defend Cecilia Nathan.
From what she could recall, Damian Hawthorne didn’t even seem to like Cecilia Nathan.
"Mr. Hawthorne, she was chasing you so desperately before, and now she’s suddenly moved on to someone else. Aren’t you the least bit angry? Or is Miss Cecilia Nathan just the type to jump from man to man, swapping out her romantic interests whenever she pleases?" Zoe Lynch’s words were sharp as she continued coldly, "Miss Cecilia Nathan, let me give you a piece of advice: don’t delude yourself into thinking you have a future with Miles Sinclair. You’re not worthy of him." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Damian Hawthorne frowned, and the aura around him instantly turned cold.
They were standing on the street, and perhaps because Zoe Lynch had deliberately raised her voice, people around them were starting to look over.
The tension between Damian Hawthorne and Zoe Lynch was palpable. If they started a public argument, they’d be front-page news by morning.
She didn’t mind for herself, but this was the Nathan Family’s Korsyth branch office.
If this made the news, it would reflect poorly on the Nathan Family.
Cecilia Nathan said to Damian Hawthorne, "You guys should head back."
She glanced at the lawyers waiting not far away and smiled faintly. "I was serious about the compensation. I don’t know what Miles Sinclair did, but I’ll definitely pay enough money."
"Damian Hawthorne, just consider it a favor to me."
Zoe Lynch was confused, but after a moment’s thought, connecting it with Damian Hawthorne’s purpose for bringing lawyers, she raised an eyebrow, a guess forming in her mind.
’So Cecilia Nathan is trying to persuade Damian Hawthorne.’
’I don’t know if Miles Sinclair actually stole the proposal, but by saying this, Cecilia is basically confirming that he did.’
"Cecilia, you may have a connection with Damian Hawthorne, but ownership of the proposal hasn’t been settled. By offering to pay, aren’t you just admitting that Miles Sinclair is a thief?" Zoe Lynch crossed her arms, her tone arrogant. "The ins and outs of the corporate world aren’t something a little girl who only graduated a few years ago could possibly understand. I’d advise you to stay out of this. Besides, a man of Miles Sinclair’s talent would never stoop to such a thing. Don’t you realize your so-called ’help’ is only going to tarnish his name?"
Cecilia pulled on Damian Hawthorne’s arm and said lightly, "I’ll handle my own affairs. Damian Hawthorne, thank you."
Damian Hawthorne gave her a deep look. Seeing the lawyers in the distance waving at him, Damian turned and strode away on his long legs.
Once Damian Hawthorne had left, Cecilia Nathan let out a long sigh.
"Damian Hawthorne seems to have developed real feelings for you, Miss Cecilia Nathan. Why not be with him? Why do you insist on stringing along other men?" Zoe Lynch’s tone was deceptively earnest, but every word dripped with contempt. "First Damian Hawthorne, then Hugo Grant, and now you’ve set your sights on Miles Sinclair. Who do you think you are? Some pampered heiress who can have any man she wants?"
"I don’t know you, do I? You’ve been aggressive with me from the moment you saw me. What did I ever do to you?" Cecilia was done being a pushover. She retorted sarcastically, "Just because you like Miles Sinclair, you won’t let anyone else near him? Why don’t you take a look in the mirror? What makes you so much better than me?"
"Hah..." Zoe Lynch’s face turned shades of pale and green with anger. "I am the youngest female executive in the Nathan Family, with an annual salary in the tens of millions. And what are you? Just a mistress kept by Damian Hawthorne."
"I do like Miles Sinclair, but my status and position are far better than yours. Not like you, who only knows how to rely on men."
"Let me tell you something. Even if Miles Sinclair and I can’t be together, it will never be your turn. Do you know why Linden Nathan is personally grooming him? Because he’s a candidate to be his son-in-law. If Miles doesn’t end up with me, he’ll end up with Selina Nathan. So you can stop dreaming about things far beyond your reach."
After Zoe Lynch finished speaking, she saw Cecilia’s lips curl into a smile.
"What are you smiling at?" Zoe Lynch’s eyelid twitched.
"The youngest female executive of the Nathan Family, and this is all you amount to. No wonder the Nathan Family’s profits in Korsyth have been stagnant. It’s because people like you are in there, muddying the waters." Cecilia’s smile was dazzling.
Her bright eyes curved into crescents, and in the sunlight, her skin was so fair it was almost translucent.
Zoe Lynch was trembling with rage at her words. "What right do you have to comment on our company?"
"Zoe Lynch, you’re a real fool." Cecilia’s gaze darkened as she said softly, "You say Miles Sinclair belongs to Selina Nathan. But do you have any idea who I am?"
"Who are you? Who could you possibly be? You’re Cecilia Nathan!" Zoe Lynch scoffed. "Don’t tell me you have some other identity?"
"You guessed it." Cecilia stared at her fixedly. "I am Cecilia Nathan, but I have another name: Selina Nathan."
Selina Nathan...
The air was so still you could hear a pin drop.
Zoe Lynch’s face gradually turned pale, her eyes widening in shock.
"What... what did you say?"
’Selina Nathan, Linden Nathan’s only daughter, the sole heiress of the Nathan Family?’
’No, how is that possible!’
Zoe Lynch stared blankly at Cecilia, vaguely recognizing a familiar resemblance in her features.
’She looks like...’
’She really does look a bit like Linden Nathan.’
’Especially the eyes. Both have almond-shaped eyes, bright and full of spirit.’
’But how could that be!’
’If she were Selina Nathan, why would she have been such a sycophant for Damian Hawthorne?’
’Wouldn’t a direct arranged marriage have been better? Why go through all the trouble of chasing him and making such a fool of herself?’
"You’re lying!" No matter how she thought about it, it didn’t add up for Zoe Lynch. "If you’re Selina Nathan, why doesn’t anyone in upper management know about you? And if you’re her, why did you chase after Damian Hawthorne back then?"
At this thought, Zoe Lynch took a deep breath, feeling more and more certain that her own suspicions were correct.
"Don’t think you can fool us just because you share the Nathan surname! If you were Selina Nathan, a lot of things from the past wouldn’t make any sense." Zoe Lynch lifted her chin. "Miss Nathan, you need to be responsible for what you say. This is especially true when it concerns our Miss Selina Nathan. President Nathan cares most about Miss Selina Nathan’s reputation."
Cecilia smiled but said nothing.
Just then, not far away, Mona Nathan happened to be getting out of a car with her father.
"Dad, why did Great Uncle suddenly decide to promote a newcomer this year? Who could be so important that he’d have all of you executives from Aethelgard rush over within a day?"
Mona was naturally delighted when she learned her father was coming to Korsyth.
She had suffered a lot in Korsyth recently, and all of it was because of Cecilia Nathan.
Thank goodness her father was here now. He could back her up.
"This person is the son-in-law your great uncle hopes to groom for the future." Mona Nathan’s father had known about Miles Sinclair for some time.
As a close relative of Linden Nathan, he hadn’t been kept in the dark about the matter.
"A son-in-law?" Mona Nathan was about to ask more when she suddenly noticed the two people standing up ahead looked familiar.
"Cecilia Nathan?!" A wicked smile spread across Mona Nathan’s face. "Well, well. You walked right into my hands. Don’t blame me for what happens next."
"What is it, Mona?" Seeing her strange smile, Mona’s father walked forward and asked with concern.
