I'll Raise My Future Omega Son-in-law-Chapter 162: THE AMNESIA TROPE
TO BE FAIR, Wonyoung wasn’t lying when he said he had amnesia when he woke up from his coma.
He didn’t have memories of the original timeline, after all.
Hence, it was easier for him to act and lie in front of the entire country.
"I wasn’t in my right mind when I woke up because my memory was a mess," Wonyoung continued with his explanation. "I’m ashamed to admit this, but waking up with an unstable mind caused me to have an aversion towards my own son. I couldn’t feel any attachment towards him. When we consulted a doctor later, we found out that it was because of my late postpartum depression. I was asleep for 5 years, so it only caught up to me after I woke up from my coma."
Yeah, he was mixing his amnesia trope with his recent diagnosis.
"But, at the time, I thought I just hated my son because I didn’t remember having him."
Admittedly, Wonyoung felt guilty about lying on this part.
After all, Yun Yuhyun finding this broadcast later was inevitable.
But I hope my son finds this broadcast a little later. I want to explain everything to him once he’s a little older.
"I ran away from both Dujun Sunbae-nim and our son because my brain wasn’t ready to accept reality. Before I knew it, I was already in Busan," Wonyoung continued with his lies. "Then, as if it were destiny, I met a kid who had the same unfortunate childhood as mine. I witnessed him almost being sold by his uncle to a relative, who wanted to take advantage of his talent as a child actor. Of course, I didn’t just watch. I helped the poor kid. However, I’m an Omega. And it’s difficult for Omegas in this country to adopt or foster a child without an Alpha partner. But, yes, it’s still possible for an Omega to adopt or foster a kid without an Alpha, but it takes time. The child needed to be saved ASAP, so..."
"So, I offered my help. Actually, it’s more like I used that opportunity to propose an unfair deal to Wonyoung-ssi," Yun Dujun continued with the story. "I was desperate to keep Wonyoung-ssi by my side, and for him to get close to our son. And, so, in exchange for helping him adopt the child, I asked him to be my temporary manager. Wonyoung-ssi wasn’t ready to be my husband and our child’s father yet, that’s why I thought it would be fine if he gets used to having us around by having him work with me. In exchange for that, we became the child’s foster parents."
The reporters then bombarded them with a fresh set of new questions.
"You said your foster kid is a child actor. Do we know them?"
"No, he hasn’t made his TV debut yet," Wonyoung answered calmly. They had An Baekya’s consent to reveal that much. After all, if they were going to air all their dirty laundry, they had to go all out. In that way, Lee Heeju and the others couldn’t threaten them with their family secrets anymore. "Our foster child used to act in a small theatre company in his neighborhood. He had already left the troupe after we brought him to Seoul. But he’s currently attending an acting academy. He plans to pursue acting as a career, and we’re supportive of him."
Of course, some of the reporters took that chance to be snarky.
"So, another nepo baby in the making."
"A talented nepo baby," Wonyoung corrected the reporter. "But, be for real. Does Dujun Sunbae-nim look like the type to let people use his name to gain favors from influential people in the industry? He rarely even interacts with the actors from the same company. Yes, we’re talking about our child here. But Dujun Sunbae-nim doesn’t use his connections to bag deals for himself. Of course, you may find it hard to believe, but that’s the truth. That’s why I found the recent article about me funny."
"Wonyoung-ssi, are you admitting that you were the rookie actor who, allegedly, stole a lead role from a big senior?"
"I was obviously the rookie actor in question, but I never stole a role from anyone," Wonyoung said firmly. "I auditioned properly, without getting help from Dujun Sunbae-nim. And I got the role simply because I was the best among those who auditioned. After this presscon, you’ll know what I’m talking about. My company will release a full statement later. And, yes, I’m in the same agency as Dujun Sunbae-nim because the CEO saw my potential— not because I’m Dujun Sunbae-nim’s husband. You’ll see what my CEO saw in me later."
They were already getting sidetracked.
Thankfully, Yun Dujun quickly brought everyone back to the main topic.
Wonyoung was relieved that he was doing that press conference with the Alpha.
I get easily distracted, after all.
"Wonyoung-ssi and I have two sons now. They’re the same age, and they attend the same school. But only our foster son is interested in acting for now. Having said that, we’ll still do our best to protect both of our children’s privacy," Yun Dujun said calmly. "You must be wondering why we suddenly revealed all of this."
The reporters collectively agreed and said ’yes.’
"Wonyoung-ssi started pursuing acting as soon as he recovered from being in a coma for five years. Yes, he was confused and ran away from me and our son. But after meeting our foster son, Wonyoung-ssi had a change of heart. He tried his best to balance being a father and an aspiring actor," Yun Dujun explained. "As his husband, I did my best to support Wonyoung-ssi by helping him look after our children. As we co-parent, Wonyoung-ssi and I started getting closer again. It may sound cliché but, yes, that’s when we started falling in love with each other once more— not that I ever stopped loving Wonyoung-ssi."
Aigoo.
Wonyoung tried not to blush, but he probably failed since the cameras started flashing towards him.
Tsk.
Now I have pictures of blushing over Dujun Hyung’s sweet nothings.
"For a while, our little family lived in peace," Yun Dujun continued. "I knew that peace wouldn’t last long, especially after Wonyoung-ssi went viral. But I didn’t expect that there were people who wanted to harm us just to break our family apart."
Now the cameras started flashing again.
Moreover, the reporters started typing faster.
No doubt everyone was in a race to release updates in real time.
"Wonyoung-ssi was attacked by an unknown man. He was hit by a blunt object at the back of his head. As a result, he had to undergo surgery for internal bleeding," Yun Dujun explained. This time, the Alpha was speaking the truth. "It was an unfortunate incident. But, in the end, it served as a blessing in disguise. After all, Wonyoung-ssi finally retrieved his memories when he woke up after his surgery."
That was technically right.
Wonyoung retrieved his old memories of the original timeline, after all.
"Thanks to that, Wonyoung-ssi remembered that it wasn’t only my mother who tormented him while he was pregnant with our son," Yun Dujun said, already reaching the point of that press conference. "I am not proud to share this, but I was preparing to debut as an actor while Wonyoung-ssi was pregnant. And, so, I neglected him back then. I was too focused on my career that I failed to make sure that he was living well. I entrusted him to my mother, and I still regret that even now. I didn’t know that my own mother and friend were tormenting my husband behind my back."
That was the keyword.
’Friend.’
Wonyoung had to stop himself from smiling.
Dujun Hyung only has a few friends. So, if the public and his fans dig deep enough, they’ll know who the friend who tormented me was.
"I didn’t tell Dujun Sunbae-nim because I didn’t want him to worry about me when he was preparing to debut," Wonyoung said softly. "But, now I know that it was stupid of me to hide that from him. I almost died, and I almost lost my baby because of what his mother did. That’s why as soon as I remembered everything, I told Dujun Sunbae-nim that it wasn’t just his mother who bullied me at the time."
"I’ve already cut off my mother, and she’s been paying for her crimes for quite some time now," Yun Dujun added. "Now, for that friend, you may or may not hear news later. The case is still under investigation, but I assure you that I won’t let the person who hurt my husband get away with it easily. Not this time. Never again."
Yun Dujun was being vague on purpose.
And the reporters caught on quickly.
"Dujun-ssi, are you saying that the friend who bullied Wonyoung-ssi in the past is the same person behind Wonyoung-ssi’s recent attack?"
"What could be that friend’s motive?"
"Could it be a love triangle?"
"That’s all we can say for now," Yun Dujun said, not answering the reporters this time. "I will protect my husband and my children with everything I’ve got. You can criticize me all you want for keeping my personal affairs private all this time. Your feelings of being betrayed are valid. But if you start attacking my family, know that I won’t be lenient."
Wonyoung looked at Yun Dujun to send him a message.
Hyung, didn’t we agree that you’ll apologize to your fans? Why are you suddenly threatening them?
The Alpha just stared back at him blankly, though.
"Why? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Tired?" Yun Dujun asked worriedly, and then he gently caressed Wonyoung’s cheek. The Alpha did put down his mic, but his voice still echoed since there were several microphones pointed at them. "You must be tired since it’s only been a few days since your surgery. I’m sorry for making you do this when you should be resting."
Wonyoung’s face probably turned red again.
After all, he could tell that Yun Dujun was genuinely worried about him.
I’m touched, but why can’t Hyung read my mind?
And, so, Wonyoung had to cover his mouth as he mouthed "apologize to your fans" to Yun Dujun.
He had to spell it out to the Alpha.
"Okay, I get it," Yun Dujun said, gently patting Wonyoung’s head before picking up the mic again and facing the reporters. "I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to my fans and the people who have been rooting for me all this time for making you worry. I understand that you might feel betrayed. But, as I said earlier, your feelings are valid. Having said that, I’d do it again if it meant protecting the peace of my family. At the end of the day, I want to repay your love with good projects and excellent acting— not details about my private life. I hope you understand that. After all, I’m an actor. Thank you for understanding."
Aigoo.
Dujun Sunbae-nim is good at setting boundaries with his fans.
Wonyoung grabbed his mic and started his own apology. "I’d also like to use this opportunity to apologize to the people I worked with, who were affected by the slanderous article aimed to discredit my hard work. I don’t have a sponsor— I have a husband who helps and supports me by taking care of our children while I work. Again, I don’t have a sponsor— I have talent that allowed me to bag roles. And you’ll see that later..."
He trailed off when the System suddenly appeared before him.
The giant old book popped up with a message.
[Bae Wonyoung, a glitch has @asdfgghkl!!!]
What?
The System was acting weird.
Then Wonyoung suddenly felt a splitting headache, followed by a sudden nosebleed.
"Wonyoung-ah!"
Yun Dujun’s loud and worried voice was what Bae Wonyoung heard last before fainting.
What a dramatic way to end the press conference...
