Chapter 11 - Tamed

The white baby dragon hesitated, taking a few small steps back.

Luka, however, remained still, not moving an inch. Slowly, he lowered his hands and, in a deliberate gesture of trust, closed his eyes.

For a moment, the white baby dragon froze, its golden eyes locked onto him with uncertainty.

Then, cautiously, it inched forward—step by step—until it was right up against Luka's body.

A small, warm breath tickled his skin as the white baby dragon sniffed him, its tiny nose brushing over his arms, chest, and even his face.

Luka kept still, barely breathing. When he slowly opened his eyes, he found the white baby dragon gazing up at him, no longer afraid, but filled with curiosity.

Gently, he reached out and placed a hand on the white baby dragon's head.

Instead of flinching or pulling away, the white baby dragon leaned into his touch, its cold, smooth scales warm beneath Luka's palm.

Then, to his surprise, it pressed even closer, snuggling up against him as if seeking warmth.

A small chuckle escaped Luka's lips.

He sat down, setting aside his bow and arrows, allowing the white baby dragon to crawl onto him without hesitation.

The white baby dragon clambered up his lap, rubbing its head against his chest, its soft body vibrating with excitement.

"Aren't you a cute little bastard?" Luka murmured under his breath, smirking as he scratched under the white baby dragon's chin.

The white baby dragon let out a tiny but triumphant roar—its version of excitement.

"Grrrr!!!"

Luka grinned. "Looks like I've tamed you, little guy."

The white baby dragon responded by happily nuzzling against him again, its golden eyes gleaming with trust.

'Good thing I chose the Beast Whisperer skill. This would've been a lot harder if I hadn't.' Luka thought to himself as he slowly stood up.

The white baby dragon eagerly climbed onto his shoulders, perching there like a proud little king.

With its golden eyes gleaming, it puffed out its chest and raised its head high, letting out a tiny but confident roar.

"Grrr!"

It was as if the white baby dragon was declaring, "Who's the small one now?"

Luka couldn't help but smirk at its antics, but his amusement was short-lived.

The other baby dragons had noticed the exchange, and soon, they were all approaching him in unison.

Luka tensed. "Uh... can I help you guys with something?" he asked with a forced smile.

The baby dragons tilted their heads, their adorable eyes filled with even more curiosity from before.

Luka, on the other hand, just wanted to leave. 'You got to be kidding me...?'

He had gotten what he came for, and now he was itching to grind levels and complete a few side quests before Act 1 of the game officially started.

'I don't have time to play with you cute little bastards...' Luka thought.

But he didn't dare say it out loud.

After all, they were ridiculously cute.

Unfortunately for Luka, the baby dragons didn't understand human speech—nor did they care.

They swarmed him, their excitement bubbling over as they jumped toward their new playmate.

"W-Wait—hey! No, no, no—!"

Before Luka could react, they tackled him to the ground in a chaotic heap of scales and tiny claws.

The white baby dragon tried to stand its ground and defend him, but its small roars did little to stop the onslaught.

Luka braced himself, expecting the worst—sharp teeth, claws, something!

Instead...

SLURP!

"Ew—what the hell!?"

SLURP! SLURP! SLURP!

They weren't attacking him.

They were licking him.

Dozens of tiny, slimy dragon tongues covered Luka's face, arms, and even his neck.

He flailed, trying to shield himself.

"Ugh! Gross—stop! I didn't sign up for this!"

The baby dragons, however, were having the time of their lives, happily slobbering all over their new favorite playmate.

Luka groaned. "I hate this..."

But deep down, he knew he didn't.

Who would!?

After a few minutes, Luka finally regained his strength and shoved the baby dragons off him, staggering to his feet.

He wiped his face, still sticky from their relentless licking, and let out an exasperated sigh.

"Alright, you little bastards! You wanna go? Bring it on!"

He spread his arms wide, welcoming them.

'I'd be a heartless bastard if I didn't play with them for a little longer...'

And so, setting aside his urge to grind levels, Luka spent the next while completely lost in play.

They played tag, running up and down the gold hills, as they all chased each other.

They played hide-and-seek, Luka using whatever treasure he could find to blend in—though he was almost always sniffed out immediately.

And when they got tired, they tumbled together into a pile, wrestling and nudging each other.

Time flew by faster than Luka expected.

Eventually, reality caught up to him.

'Shit... I have spent way too long here.'

Letting out a deep breath, Luka stood up and patted the dust and dragon slobber off his clothes.

'It's time to go.'

One by one, he knelt and ruffled each of the baby dragons' heads, saying farewell.

"Goodbye, Bubbles, Snuggles, Noodle, Nibbles, Marshmallow, Boba, Waffles, Muffin, Coco, and Squish..."

Luka's voice wavered slightly. "I'll miss you guys."

Naming them had been an accident—something that just happened throughout their playtime.

But now, as Luka said their names, it felt so much harder to leave.

Pushing aside the lump in his throat, he grabbed his bow and arrows from where he had left them earlier.

Turning on his heel, Luka made his way toward the exit, "alright, Snow, let's head home."

Snow was perched on his shoulder.

The other baby dragons, however, weren't ready to say goodbye.

Like a line of baby ducks following their mother, they waddled after him, their tiny claws clicking against the stone.

Luka stopped at the threshold, glancing back at them. His chest tightened.

"...Alright, you guys, this is where we part ways."

The baby dragons stared up at him with big, glistening eyes.

Luka had on a small smile and waved. "Take care, okay?"

Right after, Snow let out a small roar, saying goodbye to his fellow baby dragons.

Luka chuckled, reaching up to scratch under its chin. "Alright, Snow. Let's get you to your new home."

With one last look at the baby dragons, he turned and stepped out of the Dragon Cave.
