I'm The Only One With Cancer-Chapter 170: Two Days
Two days later...
Zen was currently on the shore of one of Eden Republic’s islands.
Unlike the main island, where the tallest skyscraper that holds the Sphere of Eden was, this island was very small— only about fifty square meters.
Furthermore, this island was located quite far from the main island and the other neighboring islands.
"I didn’t expect that it would be too hard to create an island..."
Zen complained out loud as he lay on his small island, which was smaller than an official basketball court.
It had already been two days since the time he enjoyed a pint of gelato with his family.
And during the time he had spent outside the game, he immersed himself in formulating a magic that could create an island and listing things that he would tackle once he was able to dive into the game again.
"Even with my stats, it’s still tiring to use that amount of mana continuously..."
Zen further complained as he willed in his mind, followed by a small notebook appearing in his hand.
There was also a pen clipped to it.
Opening the notebook, he saw the list of his to-dos once he played Free World again.
"Hmmm, what should I add... So far, I think this is quite good..."
In Zen’s notes, the following were written:
Find out if there are teleportation gates between major cities.
"Sera said that there was a teleportation gate called a gateway, but it’s located in what was known as a magic tower... While Mom and Dad said that there seemed to be no such thing in Cordelia..."
Zen tapped the pen on his temple a few times, "So this means that while these gateways exist, they seem to be very limited. I wonder whether there are some in the Kingdom of Light.... I should ask around whether there’s a magic tower."
Find out about the currency of the Free World.
"Mom and Dad said that the Free City of Cordelia uses gold coins as its currency. While Sera said that the Pendragon Kingdom uses something called ’draks’. I don’t know the exchange rate between the two, so I should add this as a priority in addition to finding the currency of the Kingdom of Light."
Level up and enjoy.
Reading the last thing he had written, Zen nodded in satisfaction, "Yes, yes. This is the priority..."
"Oh!"
Thinking about something, he began writing on the paper with his pen.
Scribble— Scribble—
Taste delicious food.
Find beautiful women of other races.
"Hehe..."
Zen could not help but chuckle to himself as some not-so-family-friendly ideas bloomed in his mind.
After all, as someone who had been bedridden for most of his life, anime and other fictional works were his escape from the real world.
And so, it was inevitable that he would be exposed to some shows where the protagonist would arrive in another world and have a companion who was a demihuman, like a woman with cat ears and the like.
"Oh, I forgot something."
A serious expression appeared on Zen’s face as he wrote down another thing.
Find elves.
"In fiction, elves are often described as the most beautiful beings... I just hope they aren’t the ones that say ’my precious~’, because if so, it will be a nightmare..."
Just imagining it made Zen feel shivers down his spine.
In the next moment, he forcefully shook his head, "No, I’m not that unlucky!"
"Ah. Anyways, this is enough for now."
Zen spoke as he tossed the notebook in the air without a care in the world.
However, it could be seen that just as it was about to hit the ground behind him, the notebook and pen disappeared.
It appeared in the white space of his storage artifact.
"Ya!"
Zen shouted as he stood up and stretched.
"Let’s get back to work."
His voice became calm and composed as he began focusing once again.
In his body, the purple-black evil energy and the bright orange divine energy coexisted on opposite sides of his chest.
At the center, a cluster of light blue strings gathered from the disassembled threads of evil energy.
It was none other than mana.
Unlike others that could absorb the mana in the surroundings, Zen’s situation was special, as he had to manually disassemble the evil energy in his heart in order to gain mana.
Every strand of evil energy equals a thousand mana, which he could use to activate skills and cast magic normally without any enhancement, and also without his evil energy being detected.
While divine energy works the same way and was much safer, its amount was much smaller than the energy produced by the Heart of Evil.
At this moment, Zen had both of his hands as mana permeated from him.
"Perceive. Infiltrate. Interfere. Manifest."
He chanted the four steps of casting magic under his breath; the mana fluctuations coming from him seemed uniform and did not have the slightest error. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Under his feet, the fifty square meters of land he had previously conjured slowly expanded.
Although the way of casting magic was based on imagination, Zen found some of its ’hidden mechanics’ throughout his two days of magic ’meditation’.
This was due to the fact that when he observed the spells he had cast, there seemed to be runic formulae that served as their fundamental structure.
Even at this moment, Zen was keenly observing the changes happening in his small island.
’There’s really something strange..."
Although he was ’imagining’ the island beneath his feet expanding, his imaginary ideas seemed to form vague runic symbols that became the foundation of the changes happening in reality.
Furthermore, the symbols were extremely minuscule, not unlike those of an atom.
It was as if his imagination was being translated into complex runic formulae by an unknown power.
"The System...!"
As the revelation struck his mind, Zen could not help but feel surprised as his eyes widened like saucers.
"So that’s it, huh... Interesting. I thought the Free World’s magic system was simple. It turns out that it only looks like it..."
After all, even with his monstrous observation ability enhanced by energies of a higher level than mana, Zen could only vaguely perceive the runic symbols.
He could not even begin to imagine how much more training he would have to undergo in order to cast magic without needing the help of the system.
"I should also look into this..."
Zen said out loud as he willed in his mind.
Inside the white space of the storage artifact, the notebook suddenly opened as its pages rapidly flipped on their own, while the pen clipped to it floated.
Then, in the next moment, the pen wrote something by itself on the notebook even without anyone moving it.
Increase magic knowledge. Find how the System interferes with magic.
’This must be why it doesn’t work when I imagined an island being created out of thin air... I must imagine the exact process, and even then, there would be limits.’
Zen wandered in his mind while he continuously expanded the island beneath his feet.
If Arthur were to know of his thoughts, he would surely be shocked because the bottleneck he was currently having with the magic theoretical knowledge that had hounded him for hundreds of years was being broken by Zen bit by bit.
Still, this was not even a part of Zen’s thoughts at the moment.
Instead, he was occupied with something else, "Maybe I can even go beyond what I can currently do now. Well, I should take things slow. I’ll first broaden my magic knowledge in those so-called magic towers if possible."
"I’m excited to enter the game again tomorrow! These past two days have been hellish for me... Anyways, I should think of more things to do..."
Zen continued writing things on his to-dos as he poured mana into the island beneath him.
This process lasted until the sun began to set on the horizon.
The scene was breathtakingly beautiful, especially since Zen was currently in an ideal area to observe the sunset, like he was in a ’front-row seat.
As the sun disappeared together with its light, the moon appeared in the night sky with its twinkling companions.
"This is enough for now..."
Zen said with a loud sigh as he wiped the imaginary sweat on his forehead with his arm.
"I’ll go back to my room first to shower and have dinner with Mom, Dad, and Sera... By the way, what time is it...?"
He spoke out loud as he checked his watch, "It’s currently 7:00 pm, so I still have time to shower... Okay, let’s go!"
Swoosh—
With a thought, Zen slowly floated before his figure suddenly shot towards a specific window on the skyscraper.
Just as he was about to crash into the glass, the window suddenly opened by itself as he let himself in.
"Tada—!"
Zen bowed towards the wall as he had just performed a magic show.
"Haha, this never gets old~"
He felt satisfied with himself as he stripped his clothes and put them in the laundry basket before going for a shower.
