Chapter 1369 - The Auction Begins

By one o'clock in the afternoon, the main hall of the Pearl Auction House was already filled with people, most of whom were well-known trainers. At the same time, guests were gradually entering the private rooms on the second and third floors.

Due to the importance of the auction, guards had been discreetly stationed in various corners of the venue to prevent any unexpected incidents during the event.

As the auction drew closer, the tension among the security personnel grew increasingly palpable. Each guard was on high alert, knowing that any mishap during the auction would result in severe consequences for them.

Sharp-eyed attendees could even catch glimpses of Pokémon such as Persian, Crobat, and Xatu swiftly flitting through the shadows of the auction house. These Pokémon had been secretly arranged by Yuga.

In addition to the patrol Pokémon that could potentially be seen, Yuga had also deployed Ghost-type Pokémon such as Mismagius, Gengar, and Chandelure to monitor the event from the shadows, making them difficult to detect.

Both Yuga and the auction house took security matters with utmost seriousness.

Yuga arrived early; as the host of this auction, he needed to personally welcome several distinguished guests.

Steven, Cynthia, Wallace, and Robert also arrived early. As Yuga's friends, they came ahead of time to support him and lend credibility to the event.

With such prominent figures in attendance, the auction's prestige was elevated to a whole new level.

Today, all employees of YoYo Day Care were given the day off so they could visit the Pearl Auction House and witness the grand event. Although they weren't planning to bid on any Pokémon, such a star-studded occasion was a rare opportunity, and they were eager to see it firsthand.

Lain, Misaki, and the others arrived alongside May, Dawn, Gary, and Lisia. Since Yuga had specially reserved a private room for them, they didn't come too early.

Yashushi also accompanied them. As the oldest among the group, Yuga had entrusted him with the task of keeping an eye on the younger ones to prevent any potential trouble.

Just as the group approached the auction house entrance, a luxurious car pulled up in front of them. A long, slender leg stretched out from the vehicle, and out stepped a flamboyantly dressed individual.

The person who emerged had waist-length white hair and a strikingly attractive face—but, unfortunately, he was a man.

He was dressed in a dazzling silver suit and wore a pair of gold-framed glasses, exuding an air of extravagance that screamed anything but "ordinary."

Adjusting his glasses, the flamboyant man flashed a smile at Yashushi and said, "Well, well, look who it is! Isn't this the young master of the Kuon family?"

Yashushi merely glanced at him and walked past without acknowledging him, leading Lain and the others straight into the auction house.

"Hey, don't ignore me! I'm talking to you! Didn't you hear me?" The flamboyant man shouted as he chased after them.

"Yashushi, who was that guy? You know him?" Lain asked curiously, surprised that Yashushi was acquainted with such an eccentric person.

Among the group, Lain was the closest to Yashushi, having worked together for a long time. They still maintained close contact due to their work at the Everlasting Workshop Training Institute.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Yashushi replied, "Someone I used to know—not very well."

The flamboyant man's name was Izumo, a former rival of the Kuon family from back when it was one of the leading names in the incense industry.

Because the two families had been long-time rivals, the younger generations were quite familiar with each other, though they didn't see eye to eye.

To be precise, it was Izumo who had a one-sided dislike for Yashushi. After all, Yashushi had always been honest and good-natured, making it nearly impossible for him to have conflicts with others.

Izumo wasn't a bad person, but he was the epitome of a playboy—lacking real skills but overly concerned with his image.

Back in the day, he tried to bully Yashushi's younger sister, Yukino, relying on his older age. However, Yukino had been spoiled by Miyuki and had grown into a little tyrant, unwilling to be pushed around. Instead, she ended up teaching Izumo a lesson.

With Izumo's pride, how could he tolerate being bullied by a girl much younger than him? He held a grudge against Yukino and often looked for chances to make trouble for her. Since Yashushi had stepped in to defend his sister a few times, he ended up being resented by Izumo as well.

Since the downfall of the Everlasting Workshop, Yashushi hadn't seen Izumo for a long time. However, Izumo's father had once approached him, attempting to buy out Everlasting Workshop at a low price. Thanks to Yashushi's connection with Yuga, that plan ultimately fell through.

Seeing Izumo again today, Yashushi felt a sense of déjà vu, as if a lifetime had passed.

Lain and the others noticed Yashushi's reluctance to talk further and didn't press the issue. They had some understanding of his family situation and figured he was probably recalling past events.

Izumo was delayed by having to show his invitation, and by the time he caught up, Yashushi and his group had already gone up to the third floor.

He tried to follow, but the guards at the stairs stopped him.

Izumo's reserved private room was on the second floor, while the third floor was reserved for even more distinguished guests—he didn't have the qualifications to enter.

"What's the big deal? His family's already bankrupt, yet he're still acting all high and mighty. Hmph!" Izumo muttered under his breath and walked away.

At exactly 2 PM, the auction officially began.

Under everyone's expectant gazes, Mamoru Ishida stepped onto the stage.

"Good afternoon, esteemed guests. I am Mamoru Ishida, honored to serve as the host for today's auction. On behalf of YoYo Day Care and Pearl Auction House, I sincerely welcome everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend this Pokémon-themed auction, organized by YoYo Day Care and co-hosted by Pearl Auction House."

Due to the importance of this auction, Mamoru Ishida personally took the role of host.

To maximize promotional impact, he repeatedly mentioned the names of YoYo Day Care and Pearl Auction House.

After a brief opening speech, Mamoru Ishida got straight to the point: "I'm sure none of you are interested in hearing me ramble on, so let's officially begin the auction!"

With a tap of the small wooden gavel in his hand, a beautiful young lady in a qipao stepped onto the stage carrying a tray. On the tray rested a red and white Poké Ball.

After placing the Poké Ball on the stage, Mamoru Ishida began his introduction: "We all know that YoYo Day Care is renowned for its Grass-type Pokémon, so let's kick things off with one of them. Please direct your attention to the big screen."

With a wave of his hand, the large screen behind him lit up, displaying footage of a Petilil frolicking in a grassy field.

At the same time, a set of data appeared beside the video, providing details on the Petilil's development—including its height, weight, abilities, potential, and the moves it had learned.

"Everyone has seen it; this is a very healthy and lively Petilil. Not only is it a very rare species, but what's even more remarkable is that its blue potential..."

The first Pokémon to be auctioned was already of blue potential, which surprised everyone present. Moreover, Petilil itself was an extremely rare Pokémon.

"Two million!"

As soon as Mamoru Ishida finished the introduction, someone immediately called out a bid in a loud voice. The first to bid was Erika, the Grass-type Gym Leader.

However, her bid was quickly drowned out by other competing offers. Still, she did not give up and ultimately secured victory with a final bid of seven million.

Erika had no shortage of money and was very decisive with her bidding. She knew that her chances of competing for the final headline Pokémon were slim. Rather than fighting to the bitter end, it was better to seize the opportunities she could.

While blue potential Pokémon were not as valuable as indigo potential ones, they were still extremely rare.

Only true elites were eligible to compete for indigo potential Pokémon; if Erika joined in, she would simply be cannon fodder—perhaps slightly better cannon fodder than the others, but cannon fodder nonetheless.

The appearance of Petilil instantly heightened the auction's atmosphere, and after a round of intense bidding, many attendees were already fired up.

Since Petilil was meant to build excitement, it was expected that the following Pokémon wouldn't have blue potential.

The second Pokémon presented was a green potential Hoppip. However, due to the excitement from the previous round, the final sale price of this Hoppip soared far above market value, reaching a staggering 420,000.

Hoppip was not a rare Pokémon; its market price typically ranged between 150,000 and 200,000. The inflated price was partly because of the previous excitement and partly because this particular Hoppip had inherited a healing move—Grassy Terrain.

Hoppip could only learn this move through inheritance, but how many Hoppip could inherit such a rare move?

Even if a Hippip did inherit it, there was no guarantee it would also have high potential. With both factors combined, it was no surprise the price skyrocketed.

Next up was an Oddish. With the audience having calmed down slightly, it was sold for a lower price than Hoppip, finally going for 380,000 to a long-time customer of YoYo Day Care.

Following that, a Bounsweet was presented, and it was purchased for 400,000 by the owner of a small Pokémon Day Care that collaborated with YoYo Day Care. He intended to gift it to his daughter as her first Pokémon.

Afterward, more Grass-type Pokémon such as Fomantis, Exeggcute, and Budew were brought out one after another. As time went on, the Pokémon being auctioned grew increasingly rare.

The highlight of the Grass-type section was the appearance of two starter Pokémon—Treecko and Chespin. Their arrival completely reignited the enthusiasm in the auction hall.

Following the Treecko and Chespin, the green potential Pokémon on auction were no longer limited to Grass types. Pokémon that had been previous flagship offerings of YoYo Day Care, such as Gligar, Clauncher, and Trapinch, also appeared one after another.

From common Pokémon like Taillow and Buneary to rarer ones like Vulpix and Eevee, the total number of green potential Pokémon auctioned off reached an impressive fifty to sixty by the end.

The climax of the green potential Pokémon auction was the appearance of a pseudo-legendary Pokémon—Larvitar.

When Larvitar appeared, the entire auction hall was ignited with excitement.

While the attendees in the main hall weren't necessarily the wealthiest guests, they were the primary bidders for green potential Pokémon, and a rare pseudo-legendary Pokémon was enough to make their eyes turn red with desire.

"Five hundred thousand!"

"Five hundred and fifty thousand!"

"Six hundred thousand!"

...

The bidding voices rose one after another.

"One million!"

"One million and fifty thousand!"

The final bid came from one of the Hoenn Elite Four, Glacia. Glacia was seated in one of the private booths, and with her bid, she nearly crushed the hopes of those in the main hall.

Logically speaking, with Glacia's strength, a green potential Pokémon wouldn't be of much use to her, even if it was a pseudo-legendary juvenile. It was unclear why she suddenly decided to make a move.

Seeing no further bids, Mamoru Ishida called out loudly, "One million and fifty thousand, is there anyone else who wants to bid? This is a rare pseudo-legendary juvenile! If you miss this opportunity, there won't be another one. Those who want to bid, please hurry!"

In the end, when no one else raised their bid, Mamoru Ishida had no choice but to announce, "One million and fifty thousand going once, one million and fifty thousand going twice, one million and fifty thousand going three times, sold! Now this Larvitar belongs to the guest in booth number eighty-five!"

A green potential pseudo-legendary juvenile was sold for over a million; although it couldn't compare to the price of blue potential Pokémon, it was not far off.

With the green potential Pokémon auction concluded, the auction for the blue potential Pokémon officially began.

"Alright, the appetizers are finished; now it's time to enjoy the main course!"

Mamoru Ishida clapped his hands with a smile, and the female attendants immediately brought in the first blue potential lPokémon of the auction, excluding the Petilil— a Meditite.

Fighting-type and Psychic-type Pokémon were both relatively rare, so Meditite's appearance immediately sparked a frenzy of bidding among the guests.

In the end, this blue potential Meditite was purchased by Brawly, the Gym Leader of Dewford Town, for a final price of six and a half million.

The second blue potential Pokémon to appear was a Sandile, which was ultimately bought by representatives from one of the five major Pokémon Day Care— the Dark Night Day Care— for the high price of seven million.

Dark Night Day Care was known for specializing in the breeding of Dark-type Pokémon, so it was no surprise they were interested in the Sandile bred by YoYo Day Care.

The third blue potential Pokémon to appear was a Flabébé. Due to its adorable appearance and rare species, Flabébé was highly sought after by numerous bidders as soon as it appeared, causing the price to skyrocket rapidly.

In the end, this Flabébé was purchased by Ramos, the Gym Leader of the Kalos region's Coumarine Gym, for a price of eight million, setting a new record for the highest bid so far.

The fourth blue potential Pokémon to appear was a Pichu.

As soon as Pichu came out, Elesa, seated in the second-floor booth, immediately lit up with excitement. She had long wanted to own an adorable Pikachu but had never found the right one.

Before coming to Verdanturf Town, she had hoped to obtain an indigo potential Pokémon, but upon arriving and seeing all the powerful figures present, she completely gave up on such extravagant hopes.

Without an indigo potential Pokémon, finding an ideal Electric-type Pokémon would still be a great opportunity!

Pichu wasn't an exceptionally rare Pokémon; in terms of rarity, it wasn't even on par with the previous Meditite, Sandile, or Flabébé.

The reason it was positioned so late in the lineup was due to Yuga's personal attachment and sentimentality.

Because of this, the competition for Pichu wasn't as intense as for the previous blue potential Pokémon, and in the end, Elesa successfully won it with a final bid of four million eight hundred thousand.

As the blue potential Pokémon appeared one after another, the atmosphere in the auction house grew increasingly tense. Since blue potential Pokémon are rare, the number available in this auction was bound to be limited. The closer it got to the end, the lower the chances of acquiring one would become.
