I'm Trapped Inside a Prince as the Most Powerful Entity-Chapter 109: The Princess Arrives
Chapter 109: The Princess Arrives
Students who had arrived much earlier than Eric and Alina were already being processed.
Academy staff were guiding them towards the designated examination areas.
Eric’s batch however along with many other groups of students who had arrived more recently were currently categorized as "waiting." They were being held in the large open field.
The lines they were standing in were slowly inching forward.
It was a very slow process as earlier groups were admitted into the Academy grounds proper.
Eric and Alina stood together in one of these slowly advancing queues. The atmosphere in the field was thick with anticipation.
Eric could almost feel the nervousness that radiated from the hundreds of young hopefuls all around them.
Everyone was anxious. Everyone wanted to do well.
Alina leaned closer to Eric. Her voice was a low murmur so only he could hear her.
"Eric," she said "I think you should have told the Academy staff at the gate that the Emperor himself already granted you direct entry into the Academy. You wouldn’t have to wait in this long line like this. You could have gone straight in."
Eric looked at Alina. A thoughtful expression was on his face.
"Actually Alina," he replied his voice equally quiet "I was thinking the same thing myself. It would be nice to not wait. But last night an Imperial soldier came to our dormitory. He informed me that even though I don’t have to take the actual tests I still need to be present here today. I have to go through the enrollment process just like all the other students. It’s part of the official procedure for everyone I suppose." He then offered her a small reassuring smile.
"And besides," he added a hint of teasing a playful note in his tone "I need to be here with you to boost your morale to give you courage don’t I?"
Alina felt a warmth spread through her at his kind words. A genuine smile touched her lips.
His attempt at lightening the mood at making her feel less nervous despite his own evident anxieties was appreciated. It helped a little.
Eric and Alina continued to wait patiently in their line.
Their queue was gradually moving forward inch by slow inch.
The sun climbed higher in the sky. It started to get warmer. The murmur of hundreds of hushed conversations whispered hopes and fears filled the air around them.
Suddenly a commotion erupted near the main Academy gate.
It was the entrance they had all come through. The sound of raised voices of people speaking loudly and the sound of hurried footsteps carried across the large field.
The Academy staff members who had been methodically organizing the students into lines began to move with a new urgency. Many of them started hurrying towards the main entrance.
It was as if some important unexpected dignitary some very important person had arrived unannounced.
The Academy staff members who were standing near Eric and Alina’s line also turned their attention towards the Academy gate.
Their expressions shifted from routine efficiency from just doing their job to a heightened alertness a look of surprise and importance. Naturally the attention of all the waiting students including Eric and Alina was drawn to the source of the commotion.
Everyone wanted to see what was happening.
Through the main gates of the United Academy a lone figure walked with an air of confident unhurried grace. She moved like she owned the place. It was a young woman with striking black hair.
She wore a light practical-looking suit of armor that shone in the sun. A sword hung at her hip its scabbard gleaming brightly. She looked like a warrior.
The moment Eric saw her a jolt of recognition ran through him.
He knew her. "That’s her!" he exclaimed his voice a surprised whisper. He almost couldn’t believe it. "That’s the girl we had the practice match with yesterday in the garden! The one who broke my sword!"
Alina hearing Eric’s surprised words also looked towards the approaching figure. She nodded her head in recognition. It was indeed Monica the Emperor’s daughter.
She was the one whose name had been chanted by the huge crowds in the city when they were coming to the Academy. She was here now.
Interestingly Monica was not surrounded by her usual retinue her group of Imperial soldiers.
They were not with her today. Instead several high-ranking Academy staff members people who looked like important teachers were now flocking around her.
They were gathering close to her.
Their demeanor their way of acting was deferential respectful and slightly flustered nervous. They seemed a little overwhelmed by her presence.
From the main Academy building a large imposing structure situated beside the vast examination field another figure emerged. This main building was the first of seven such large buildings that comprised the sprawling Academy campus.
It was a very big place. This figure who came out of the building moved with an air of clear authority. He was a tall powerfully built man. He appeared to be in his mid-thirties.
He had distinguished white hair that made him look older and wiser. A quiver full of arrows was slung across his back. And a finely crafted bow was in his hand.
This indicated that he was likely a specialized magician. He was probably one proficient in archery-based magic using a bow and arrow with his spells.
This man moved with incredible speed.
He exited the building and crossed the intervening distance the space between the building and Monica in a near blur.
He was so fast it was hard to see him clearly. He stopped right before her bowing his head respectfully.
"Second Princess Monica," the professor said his voice clear and resonant. It carried easily across the now-hushed field. All the students had gone quiet watching this.
"Welcome to the United Academy." The arrival of the Emperor’s daughter the popular Second Princess had clearly caused a significant stir.
It was a big event. And all eyes all the attention of everyone in the field were now fixed on her. She was the center of everything at this moment.
