Chapter 114: Separate Paths

This is the One Hundred fourteen: Separate Paths

The first Academy staff members to act rushed over to Princess Monica.

She was clearly their first priority. After a brief respectful exchange with her Imperial soldiers who were guarding her they took charge of Monica’s luggage her bags and belongings.

Then they began to escort her away from the large open field where the results had been announced.

They didn’t lead her back through the same main gate they had all entered for the examination earlier that day.

Instead they took her along a different path. It was a path that led further into the Academy’s expansive grounds deeper into the heart of the institution.

Gradually more Academy staff members began to move among the remaining successful applicants the students who had received the white birds.

One by one they started guiding the newly admitted students away from the field.

They were leading them onto the same path that Princess Monica had just taken a path deeper into the Academy.

Soon two staff members approached Eric and Alina. One was a man and the other was a woman.

They stopped before the pair their expressions professional and efficient. They were here to guide them.

"We have already arranged for your luggage to be shifted from the palace dormitories," the male staff member informed them.

"It has been moved to your new rooms here at the Academy. Both of you please follow us now."

Eric and Alina still processing the whirlwind of the day’s events the stress of the exam and the joy of passing followed the two staff members.

They walked for some time. They passed through another large gate that opened into a vast beautifully landscaped garden. It was a beautiful area they hadn’t seen before filled with strange and colorful plants.

As Eric walked through this new gate and took in the sight of the beautiful garden a realization a new understanding struck him.

So the Academy holds its entrance examinations in one location one part of the grounds.

And the actual student campus where the students live and study is somewhere else entirely, he mused to himself. I was wondering why we didn’t see any of the current older students while we were taking the exams today.

It is because they keep the new applicants separate.

The sheer scale the immense size and the thoughtful design of the United Academy were once again deeply impressive to him.

It was a self-contained world carefully compartmentalized carefully organized.

As they crossed the beautiful garden they saw that the path ahead forked.

It split into two different directions. The newly admitted students who were walking ahead of them were being separated at this fork. The girls were being led to the right path. And the boys were being led to the left path.

The two staff members who were escorting Eric and Alina paused at the fork in the path.

The female staff member turned to Alina.

"We must go to the right from here," she said. Her voice was polite but firm. It was an instruction not a suggestion.

"That is where the girls’ dormitory is located. You will be living there with the other female students for the next four years of your study."

The male staff member who was standing in front of Eric gestured to the left path. "We will be heading this way," he said to Eric. "The boys’ dormitory is in that direction. Your room has already been allotted assigned to you."

Alina hearing this hearing that they would be separated felt a fresh wave of nervousness wash over her.

The prospect of being separated from Eric the only familiar and friendly face she knew in this vast intimidating new environment was daunting. It was a scary thought.

She would be all alone.

Eric sensing her apprehension her fear looked at Alina. He offered her a reassuring smile. He tried to look brave for her.

"Don’t worry Alina," he said softly yet with a confidence that surprised even himself. It was a new feeling for him.

"I’m still here. I am just in a different building. We are in the same Academy. If you have any problems at all or if you need anything you can reach out to me. You can send a message or find me."

Hearing his words feeling his support Alina felt a measure of her anxiety ease. Her nervousness lessened a little bit.

She nodded her head a grateful look in her eyes.

She had just lived through a day she never could have imagined in her wildest dreams.

She had been granted an impossible opportunity a chance to change her life completely.

And she was determined to make the most of it. She would give her all to the Academy.

She would study hard. She would train hard. She would emerge from it four years later as a capable and respected warrior in her own right. She made a silent promise to herself.

Eric nodded back to her. A silent understanding passed between them.

They were both starting something new and they would support each other. Then with a final shared glance a last look of encouragement Alina and Eric turned and followed their respective guides.

They headed down separate paths each taking their first real steps into a new and uncertain Chapter of their lives. Their journey at the United Academy had truly begun.
