I'm Trapped Inside a Prince as the Most Powerful Entity-Chapter 118: Selections and Snobbery
Chapter 118: Selections and Snobbery
Among the crowd of frightened first-year students however one individual was not afraid at all.
A boy with slightly brown-tinted skin and dark black hair watched the brutal display of violence. He watched the green-haired boy get beaten up with a faint amused smile on his face.
This of course was the demon who had disguised himself as a human to get into the Academy.
To him this scene of intimidation and violence was not terrifying in the slightest. It was thoroughly entertaining. He enjoyed watching the weak get punished.
Eric on the other hand watched the scene with growing anxiety.
A cold dread a feeling of deep fear seeped into him.
He silently prayed that he wouldn’t have to endure such a public brutal humiliation.
He did not want to be the one on the ground getting kicked.
The raw power and the casual cruelty of the upperclassmen were on a level he had never witnessed before in his life. These were not just schoolyard bullies.
They were dangerous.
The four representatives who had initially stepped forward now addressed the cowed frightened crowd again.
One of them the red-banded student who had spoken first sneered at the fallen green-haired boy.
"Now do you understand?" he said. His voice was dripping with satisfaction with a cruel happiness.
"It would be in your best interest to listen to us. Now introduce yourself properly this time. No more foolish talk."
The green-haired boy took a deep ragged breath. He pushed himself up into a sitting position on the cold stone floor.
He glared up at the upperclassmen who surrounded him. His face was a mask of furious defiance. His spirit was not broken. "My name is Kado," he growled.
His voice was thick with anger and pain. "I am a martial artist and I am from the Kingdom of Ti."
The upperclassmen standing around him smirked.
They assumed that Kado’s spirit had finally been broken by the quick and painful beating.
They thought he had learned his lesson. But before any of them could make another nasty comment or tell him what to do Kado spoke again.
His voice was filled with undiluted contempt with pure hatred.
"And all of you can go to hell," he snarled looking at each of them. "I have no interest in playing this childish game of yours. And I have no interest in joining any of your pathetic little groups."
At this fresh display of defiance the two upperclassmen who had attacked him before—the one in the blue uniform and the one in the black uniform—who were standing right beside Kado immediately moved forward.
They were ready to teach him another more severe lesson. They were going to beat him again.
But before they could act before they could lay another hand on Kado a new voice cut in. A student from the yellow-banded group stepped forward.
This was the one with the golden hair. He was tall and fair-skinned.
He had an air of relaxed authority about him that set him apart from the more thuggish members of the other groups. He seemed more like a leader.
He held up a hand. It was a clear gesture to halt the impending beatdown.
"Calm down both of you," he said. His voice was smooth and reasonable.
"I want to say this to all the groups here. We have plenty of time. We have two almost three full years to... interact with this one with Kado. We can teach him a very good lesson over a much longer period. For now it would be a waste of our time and energy to focus solely on him. It would be better to select the best talent the most useful people from the rest of these new arrivals first."
The members of the other groups standing nearby exchanged glances. After a moment of thought they nodded in agreement. The logic of the yellow-banded student was sound.
They had plenty of time to punish Kado later.
The student from the yellow-banded group then looked down at Kado who was still on the ground glaring at them.
"And you Kado," he said his voice losing its reasonable tone and taking on a cold hard edge "will stay right here until this entire selection process is over. You will not move. We have some important business with you later."
Kado though he was still on the ground could hear the clear menacing intention in the student’s voice. He knew this was far from over.
His troubles at the Academy had only just begun.
With Kado’s fate temporarily postponed for later the selection process began. From the large crowd of new students a boy stepped forward.
He had brown hair and he was noticeably shorter than the average boy his age. He looked a little nervous.
He stepped forward out of the crowd. After a moment’s hesitation he spoke. His voice was a little nervous a little shaky. "My name is Ryan," he said "and I am from the Kingdom of Balti."
Upon hearing the name of his kingdom the representative of the black-banded group a serious-looking student named Shin turned.
He glanced back at the members of his own faction his own group. The other members of the black-banded group also looked towards one particular boy who was standing in their ranks.
This boy’s face showed considerable surprise. He then broke into a wide happy smile. He said loudly "You’re from my kingdom! I’m from Balti too!"
Ryan the short boy looked over at the boy who had spoken. His own expression was a mixture of surprise and a great relief at seeing a familiar face or at least a fellow countryman in this intimidating place.
The boy with the black band on his uniform smiled again.
"My name is Kal," he said warmly.
"It’s good to see someone from home. Are you from a noble family? I also belong to a noble family from the Kingdom of Balti." He seemed very friendly.
Ryan’s face lit up with a small hopeful smile. "No," he replied honestly. "Actually I come from a commoner family. My father is a merchant."
The moment Ryan said this the moment he admitted he was a commoner the welcoming smile on Kal’s face vanished instantly.
It disappeared as if it had been a mask that had just been ripped away.
But just as quickly as it had disappeared Kal forced a smile back onto his face.
It was a fake smile this time though.
It didn’t quite reach his eyes. He turned to his group’s representative Shin.
"Shin," Kal said his voice once again cheerful but now sounding a little false "this one, Ryan, he will definitely be useful to our group. We should take him."
Shin who had been observing the whole exchange with a detached interest nodded his head slowly.
He looked at Ryan up and down as if he was judging him.
Then he said "We the Black Sword faction are willing to take you. You will join us." Ryan had been chosen. It was a relief but the way Kal had acted left him feeling a little uneasy.
