Chapter 153: The Red Team’s Fury

The scene shifted.

On another side of the vast sprawling United Academy campus stood the dormitories for the fourth-year students.

In front of one of these imposing buildings was a private training ground.

It was one that was starkly different from the indoor technologically advanced facility where Eric had been training.

This was a simple open field of packed earth. It was surrounded by a low stone wall.

Numerous fourth-year students all members of the Red Team were gathered here.

This training ground was by an unspoken but rigidly enforced rule the exclusive domain of the Red Group. No other faction was allowed to train here.

In the center of the field was a single raised stone platform.

Surrounding this platform a crowd of Red Team members had formed a semi-circle.

Most of them were fourth-years the most senior students. But there were a few third-years scattered among them as well.

Atop the platform stood a single commanding figure. His name was Cian.

He was a tall imposing young man with dark black hair. He had the confident almost arrogant bearing of high nobility.

He was in fact the son of a powerful noble from within the Empire itself.

And he was widely regarded as one of the strongest and most influential students in the entire Academy.

He stood with his hands casually tucked into his pockets. His posture was relaxed almost bored as he looked down at the scene before him.

On the ground at the base of the platform eleven other students were kneeling.

They were also members of the Red Team. But their status was clearly different from the others. They were all older likely in their early twenties.

And their clothes though still bearing the red band of their faction were of a much poorer quality. They were all bruised and battered. They had clear signs of recent injury on their faces and arms.

Their fault in the eyes of their so-called comrades was a simple one.

They did not belong to a noble family. And especially they were not from a noble family from the Empire. They were commoners. They hailed from various minor kingdoms that bordered the great Empire.

Cian let out a long theatrical sigh of disappointment. He looked down at the eleven kneeling students. His expression was one of pure unadulterated contempt.

"All of you have been members of the Red Team for years now," he said his voice dripping with disdain.

"And yet you still haven’t learned. You show no improvement at all. We have told you time and time again that when you are summoned by a senior member you are to appear with a single voice instantly. So why were you late this time?"

From the group of eleven kneeling students one brave or foolish young man struggled to his feet. He held out his hands in a placating gesture trying to calm his angry leader.

"My Lord Cian," he pleaded his voice trembling slightly "we were on our way here but... but a teacher a professor summoned us for a task..."

Before he could finish his sentence before he could explain further Cian moved.

One moment he was standing relaxed on the platform.

The next he had vanished. He reappeared instantly directly in front of the student who had dared to speak.

Without even bothering to take his hands from his pockets Cian lashed out with a vicious spinning kick.

The kick landed squarely in the student’s stomach. The force of the blow lifted him off his feet. It sent him crashing to the ground a few feet away gasping for air.

He couldn’t breathe.

The other Red Team members who were watching from the sidelines did nothing.

They simply watched. Many of them had cruel amused smiles on their faces.

This was a common occurrence. It was a routine display of power and dominance within their group. The strong ruled the weak. That was their way.

Just as Cian was about to turn his attention back to the remaining ten kneeling students another figure stepped up onto the platform.

His name was Simon. He was another high-ranking member of the Red Team a close friend of Cian. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

Simon walked up behind Cian. He placed a hand on his shoulder gently pulling him back from the kneeling students.

Cian feeling the hand on his shoulder spun around. His expression was one of pure annoyance. He did not like being interrupted.

But when he saw that it was his friend Simon his mood shifted slightly. His anger was tempered by a familiar camaraderie.

"Simon," he growled "let me teach them a lesson. They have become far too lazy lately. They need to be reminded of their place."

Simon pulled Cian further back away from the kneeling students. He then turned to face the entire assembled crowd of Red Team members.

His own expression was one of furious frustration.

"What are you all doing?!" he roared his voice booming across the training ground.

"A new boy has arrived at this Academy! He has impressed the Principal himself. And he has even begun the process of forming a new group a direct challenge to all of us! And you are all standing here wasting your time on these... these worthless insects!" He spat the last words out with utter contempt. He gestured dismissively towards the beaten students who were still on the ground.

Hearing Simon’s angry words Cian’s own anger seemed to deflate slightly. He lowered his head for a moment. He then looked up again a new more serious expression on his face.

"Simon what are you saying?" he asked. "Should we just go and attack him now? Did you not hear what the Principal said during the induction? We are not to harass him for a week."

Before Simon could reply another figure ascended the platform. It was a young woman also a fourth-year student and a member of the Red Team.

She too was from a powerful noble family within the Empire.

Her name was Somya. She walked up to stand beside Cian and Simon.

Her own expression was one of cool calculating intelligence.

The leadership of the Red Team was now assembled. They were here to decide what to do about this new threat this boy named Eric.

The game was afoot.
