Even though his body was quite fast now much faster than it had been before he could tell while fighting Monica that he would have to make his body even faster to defeat her. She was incredibly quick.

Thinking this Eric infused his legs with his blue energy. He moved forward very quickly a blur of motion.

Monica had learned many advanced techniques during her years of training in the Empire. She also knew how to infuse magical energy into her body to enhance her speed and power.

While Eric was learning this through raw physical experience through trial and error Monica had been taught this skill for a long time. She knew it much better than Eric did.

Suddenly Monica disappeared from her place. She moved so fast she seemed to vanish. Then tearing through the air she moved towards Eric at an incredible speed.

Monica’s sword her red-glowing blade went to her side and then behind her. She was gathering even more power into her sword for a devastating strike. Seeing this Eric also moved forward very quickly to meet her charge.

His speed was also quite fast. But he knew it was not enough. He needed to be faster. He needed to be stronger. The real fight had just begun.

However Eric was not overly impressed by Monica’s incredible speed. From his enhanced perspective because of the [System] he was still able to see her movements in slow motion. Her blurring charge seemed almost leisurely to him. He could see every muscle tense every shift in her balance every flicker of intent in her eyes.

Monica swung her sword at Eric with great speed and immense power. Before the red-glowing sword could fully complete its arc before it could even come close to hitting Eric’s body Eric also swung his hand. He brought his own blue-glowing sword into the path of Monica’s attack.

The two energy-wreathed wooden swords of Monica and Eric collided with each other with a loud crack. Their energies clashed violently in the space between them.

The red energy from Monica’s sword and the blue energy from Eric’s sword pushed against each other creating a small storm of crackling light. They were repelling each other with equal force.

Finally both wooden practice swords could not withstand this immense force. They also broke just like the first ones had. Splinters of wood flew across the platform.

The instructor Leon who was standing below was watching this entire scene with a thoughtful expression. This training session continued like this for a long time.

Eric and Monica both trained with a fierce intensity a shared focus. They grabbed new wooden swords from the weapon racks again and again. And again and again their swords would shatter under the force of their powerful blows. Soon all the wooden swords that were present in the training platform’s arsenal were lying broken on the ground.

The stone floor was littered with the remnants of their sparring session. Every wooden sword was broken in a different place. Some were snapped cleanly in half.

Others had burst into splinters because they could not withstand the immense magical energy that both Eric and Monica were channeling through them.

Finally after what felt like hours they both stood in the center of the platform. They were surrounded by the debris of their practice. They were both breathing heavily gasping for air.

But they were both smiling at each other. It was a smile of a shared exhilarating experience. Then Monica composing herself trying to regain her usual princely demeanor looked at Eric.

She still had an attitude but it was different now. It was not filled with contempt. It was filled with a newfound respect.

"I admit my mistake," she said her voice clear and firm.

"When I met you at the Imperial Palace and in the classroom I behaved too arrogantly with you. For that I apologize to you." Seeing this hearing her words Eric was very surprised.

He watched as Monica the proud princess of the Empire actually bowed her head to him. She was apologizing to him. Eric was so surprised that he could not say anything. He just stared.

Then Monica raised her head again. Her eyes were shining with a new light a light of a warrior who had found a true rival. "I have never enjoyed training with anyone so much before," she said.

"Except for my older brother and my older sister." Hearing this Eric was a little surprised. He thought to himself A short time ago this was the same princess who was telling him not to wander around her to stay away from her.

Now Eric is understanding how much Monica respects her elder sister and brother. In this entire continent, Monica respects only her elder brother, her elder sister and her father, whom she considers more powerful than her and there are some heads of noble families, whom she considers superior to her.

And now she is talking as if Eric is her very close friend a trusted sparring partner. But before he could say anything before he could respond to her apology or her strange compliment the instructor standing below shouted loudly. His voice echoed through the training hall.

However, this truth has broken for Monica today after fighting with Eric. But Monica is neither sad nor angry, rather she is very happy and excited about her future and how she will push herself even harder to cross her limits so that she can achieve success.

"The training for all the children is over! All of you come down from the platforms now!" The first day of their partnership had ended not with anger but with a grudging respect and the promise of many more interesting battles to come.
