Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Ambitions within Alpha Corp

Then, the silence was broken.

Hearing the sound, the branch quickly retreated, as if it was never there. Leo’s legs were also freed immediately.

Crunch.

A heavy footfall was heard. Then another. These weren’t the sounds of a dungeon beast with multiple legs, but something that felt more like that of a humanoid creature with two legs.

The footsteps stopped beside Leo’s body.

A shadow fell over him, broad and imposing, eclipsing the fading light of the afternoon sun.

A pair of hands reached down, placing a hand on Leo’s chest. There was a person of silence where only Leo’s heartbeat could be felt in that person’s hand.

With a strength that seemed to disregard Leo’s weight entirely, the figure raised his body off the ground.

Leo’s head lolled back, his eyes remaining shut as he was shifted into a more secure hold.

The figure didn’t hesitate. It turned and began to walk away.

Just then, the vines that had retreated, slowly reached out towards the person, albeit at a much faster speed. It was as if someone had tossed a dagger aimed for the person.

There were multiple bright flashes, and by the time they disappeared, thousands of small wooden pieces fell on the ground. The branches of the tree were turned into fragments of wood.

Even the root of the tree wasn’t left intact, as if the monstrous tree that had survived in this forest secretly, had disappeared forever.

....

"It has been four months. There is still no response from him?"

Trent was sitting in the boss’ chair, looking at the communicator.

He had received multiple messages and calls today. Yet, none of them came from Leo.

Just as Leo had thought, the flow of time was indeed different between these two places.

While he felt like he was only in the new world for less than a week, but in this place, two more months had passed in the blink of an eye.

Alpha Corp had already devoured everything that they could in this space sector. And now everyone was wondering when they were going to expand into other places.

Slowly, the pressure had started to mount on Trent’s shoulders for him to act.

He was one of the four board members of the Alpha Corp. Although he didn’t have any shares in the company, his position could still be called the highest after Leo.

Or rather, there were four such board members who held no share, yet could use limited authority of Alpha Corporation.

To make a significant decision related to their own field of expertise, they could do it in Leo’s absence.

However, if it was someone that could significantly affect the Alpha Corp’s future, then only Leo could make that decision.

In case he was absent for a long time and the decision could not wait, all four board members had to agree on the decision.

To expand into other space sectors, was one such decision.

Leo had told them to wait, but as the company grew and more and more ambitious people joined due to the company’s reputation, the pressure had grown immensely.

Alpha Corp had stalled. It was like still water with no ripples. If they didn’t expand outwards, there was only the way down from here.

To maintain their hegemony, they couldn’t slow down while they had the momentum. And slowly, the longer they waited, they were losing that momentum.

Trent really hadn’t expected that it would be so hard to run a company. He didn’t know how Leo was able to do it so effortlessly, as if he wasn’t even doing anything but playing around.

"Should I wait a little longer?" He sent another message to Leo, but even he knew that they had to do something.

Leo had said that they weren’t allowed to expand until the war of the ancient houses was ongoing. However, just last month, there was news that there was something akin to a ceasefire between the ancient houses.

The terms of the ceasefire wasn’t known, but one thing was certain. The commotion had died down for now.

As per Leo’s words, they could expand into other space sectors, but it was still a decision that he wanted Leo to be here for.

"Sir, our banking business needs new clients if we want to grow even more. While the iron is hot, we need to strike. We can’t have second thoughts! You have the most to lose!"

An assistant that Trent had hired recently, said with enthusiasm.

Trent sighed, placing multiple arms on the table before him, sighing. "You think I don’t want to? I have become the Leader of Alpha Bank. I want to grow it as much as possible, so that when my boss returns, he can look at me with pride."

"If I’m successful, maybe he might even assign the Vice Chairman Position to me. After that, I won’t have to wait for the other three board of directors."

"I would be the assistant to the Vice Chairman. It’s only a matter of time, Lord Trent. If anything is worthy of that position, it’s you!"

"Hahaha, of course. Although amongst the current board of members, I’m the one that met the boss the last, I’ve probably spent the most time with him out of everyone. I know him better than anyone else could."

Trent proudly claimed, unable to hide the ambition in his eyes.

Leo was right to worry that in his absence, his people might start to develop unhealthy ambitions. However, he didn’t think that Trent was going to be one of them.

Fortunately, for now, it was only an ambition to become the Vice Chairman. The chairman’s seat wasn’t in Trent’s sight. He was still loyal...

For now, Trent only focused on the other three board members.

He knew the identity of all three of them, but he had only seen two of them before. The third board member, he had never seen before. He only knew the name of that mysterious person.

The third board member that had rarely shown himself was known as the first person that Leo had ever hired, and the man who was the lead researcher at the Alpha Labs in the beginning.

It was a person named Piccolo, also said to be the closest to Leo by many. However, that man had long disappeared, and barely anyone knew where he was.

Even Trent didn’t know his whereabouts, as it was said that he was on a ’fishing vacation’.

If anyone knew the whereabouts of that person, it was possible one of the remaining two board members, a woman that worked under Piccolo as a researcher.

After Piccolo left, she became the leader of the Alpha Labs, which had been at the forefront of technology for Alpha Corp.

As for the last board member, it was also one of the most surprising names in the list.
