In This Life, I Will Extremely Pamper My Short-Lived Husband-Chapter 33 - Discussing the Bridal Price
Chapter 33: Chapter 33 Discussing the Bridal Price
Chapter 33 -33 Discussing the Bridal Price
Reflecting on that dream, Xie Yanchuan’s face flushed red again, and his heart began to race, feeling anxious as if he had done something wrong.
After a long while, Xie Yanchuan finally emerged from the bathroom, his expression returning to its usual aloofness.
Having made simple preparations, Xie Yanchuan left the bedroom. It was still early, so he had time to leisurely prepare breakfast for himself. After having breakfast, he headed to school.
He had no classes that morning, so Xie Yanchuan went to the lab first to review a set of data.
As soon as he entered the lab, he heard everyone discussing the funding for this quarter’s experiments, speculating how much their department would receive and how much would trickle down to their research group.
Xie Yanchuan did not join the discussion but listened quietly until the lab leader finally said, “Alright, we’ll know how much we have when the notice comes; for now, everyone should get back to their own work.”
Everyone then prepared to disperse, but before Xie Yanchuan could leave, the group leader Qin He called out to him, “Yanchuan, stay for a moment.”
Hearing this, everyone glanced at Xie Yanchuan—curious about their discussion but still left, leaving the space to the two of them.
When everyone had gone, Xie Yanchuan asked indifferently, “Senior Brother, is there something wrong?”
Qin He was ten years Yanchuan’s senior and his direct academic predecessor. After that, Yanchuan had followed their professor into the lab, so he addressed Qin He as “Senior Brother.”
Qin He approached Xie Yanchuan and said in a lowered and somber voice, “The issue with the funding for this experiment might not go so smoothly.”
Before Qin He could explain further, Xie Yanchuan already had an idea. After all, the funding for each quarter’s experiments was limited, and after allocation, it had to be distributed among various groups.

And their group had not produced a single useful result in the past year.
This quarter, they certainly wouldn’t be a priority when it came to funding.
“There’s also a sum of money that our lab has yet to settle with the supplier. If the funds we receive this time are too low, we might not be able to proceed smoothly in the future,” Qin He expressed his concerns.
“Do you think we should ask the professor to step in and negotiate?” Qin He asked Xie Yanchuan, sounding as if they were discussing the matter.
Xie Yanchuan frowned slightly. He felt that even if they did ask the professor to help negotiate, it was unlikely to yield much better results.
There had always been a strict limit on research funding, and it was usually given preferentially to labs that produced more results. Their lack of significant outcomes over the past year was a fact; if the professor intervened, it wouldn’t make much difference and might even cost him face.
But they had to find a solution, as the lab’s expenses were massive, like running water. Even if they had received more funding than other labs last year, it still wasn’t enough.
It was only because Xie Yanchuan himself was relatively comfortable financially; whenever the application for funds was too slow, he would pay out of his pocket without much complaint.
If one were to count, Xie Yanchuan had not only gone without a salary for the past few years in the lab, but the lab also owed him a sum of money.
“Forget it, let’s just wait and see,” Qin He sighed helplessly, not seeing any other option but to leave it to fate.
Qin Heyou patted Xie Yanchuan’s shoulder, “For now, let’s just focus on our work. Your experimental data are among the best we have. If anyone can solve this problem, it’s you who has the most hope.”
Xie Yanchuan didn’t have a chance to respond as Qin He had already walked away.
Xie Yanchuan followed a little more slowly, brow furrowed, apparently still considering the funding issue.
He was, in fact, quite wealthy. After coming of age, he had received a share of the Xie Family’s assets, and since then, the annual dividends from the Xie Group had been deposited into his account. He hadn’t looked at it closely but had never worried about money.
He wasn’t a person given to extravagance and, apart from annual contributions to a charity fund, he didn’t bother much with the rest of his funds, always having enough when needed.
But taking responsibility for his entire research group’s budget, Xie Yanchuan wasn’t sure if it would be manageable.
Especially since he was about to get married!

Coincidentally, that same evening, Xie Yanchuan received a call from home, asking him to visit when he could.
As for the reason, to discuss the matter of the betrothal gifts.
So, Xie Yanchuan went home that very night.
Originally, Xie Suian had hoped for Xu Jinzhi to marry Xie Linchuan. That way, even if the Xie Group shares were given as a dowry, it would be appropriate as they would belong to both spouses.
But now, with Xu Jinzhi marrying Xie Yanchuan, the Xie Family could not use the Xie Group shares as a bridal gift. The portion of the Xie Group that belonged to Xie Yanchuan had already been given to him when he reached adulthood.
To ensure the tranquility of the Xie Family and the Xie Group, the matter of shares for their three children had been settled long ago.
“I have two villas I can also add to the betrothal gifts,” announced Old Master Xie.
Everyone in the living room looked towards Old Master Xie, pondering over what would make an appropriate dowry.
After a long silence, He Shuying spoke up, “I have two jewelry sets, given to me by the old madam. Would it be suitable to use them as betrothal gifts?”
Old Master Xie nodded, “Though young people today may not favor jade much, those are, after all, antique items, valuable enough not to lose face as betrothal gifts.”
He Shuying inwardly felt like she was bleeding; the jewelry she didn’t even like wearing, and yet Old Master Xie was worried about face!
She had secretly wanted to keep them for Xie Xingchuan’s future bride.
But since Xie Yanchuan was marrying a woman with such a wealthy background, the Xie Family had to show sincerity, or it wouldn’t do.
He Shuying didn’t dwell on it, though. As much as it pained her, Xie Yanchuan was her son after all, and bleeding a little for her son’s wedding was acceptable to her as a mother.
Xie Suian considered and then decided to include a shopping mall in the betrothal gifts, while Xie Linchuan sat quietly, brow furrowed. But when he looked at Xie Yanchuan, he didn’t know how to begin.
Especially when Xie Yanchuan looked back at him, with a calmness in his eyes that made it even harder for Lin Chuan to speak.
All along, Lin Chuan felt it was his fault that his brother was marrying someone he didn’t love.
Lin Chuan knew the feeling of being with someone he didn’t love and thus felt immense guilt.
But there was nothing he could do to change it now.
Under the weight of his guilt, Lin Chuan gave Xie Yanchuan a bank card!
