Infernal Entity: Evolving With My Demonic System-Chapter 39: Lynn Blade
Whatever intrusive thought was passing through Axel’s mind must have been far more reckless than he realized, because he didn’t hesitate even for a second before activating the new ID skill on Lynn.
Her information appeared instantly in his vision.
[Name: Lynn Blade]
[Age: 17]
[Race: Human–Mutant]
[Ability: Telepathy]
[HP: 10/10]
[Level: Lumina 5]
’Lumina 5?’ Axel wondered.
That alone surprised him, but what unsettled him more was how calm she looked, like none of this was a big deal to her at all, like working at the Forger’s Bay was just another normal stop in her daily routine. She really was everywhere.
The first time Axel had seen her was at the administration office. She cleared students for entry and scanned their minds like it was nothing, now here she was again, doing another job.
Students like Lynn existed in this place, students who couldn’t rely on family money or influence, students who had to work multiple jobs just to survive, and Axel had a strong feeling that this wasn’t the only place she clocked in at and the thought stayed a little too long... long enough for her to pick up on it.
"You’re wondering if I work somewhere else too," she said casually.
Axel’s heart skipped and his eyes widened slightly before he quickly snapped himself back to reality, remembering far too late what her ability was.
"Ah sorry," Axel said quickly. "I didn’t mean to stare."
Lynn smirked. "Relax," she said. "I can only read surface thoughts, that is, whatever you’re thinking about right now. Anything older than that, memories and buried stuff, I can’t touch."
’Well that was a relief...’
There were things in his past he didn’t want anyone seeing. His death was one of them and definitely not the system that now lived inside his head.
"Do you always do that?" Axel asked cautiously.
"Only when someone thinks too loudly," Lynn replied. "You were basically yelling in your head."
"So what do you need today?" She asked again.
Axel reached over his shoulder and pulled the sword free from its sheath. The Godrend sword.
"I want to upgrade it," Axel said.
Lynn’s eyes lit up with interest as she took the sword from him. She turned it over slowly and inspected the edges.
"This thing’s special," she said. "Its very compatible with energy-based abilities."
She walked over to a nearby counter and activated a holographic display.
"If you want to infuse a Mythic beast shard into it," she continued, "you have a few options available right now."
Three projections appeared in the air.
"The first option is an Energy Burst Core," Lynn explained. "It allows the sword to release compressed energy slashes on impact, not just when you swing, but also when the blade connects with a target, causing internal damage that bypasses armor."
"The second option is a Fire-based infusion. It coats the blade in continuous heat and it increases its cutting power and leaves lingering burn damage."
Then the third projection appeared.
"This one," Lynn said, "is a bit different."
"It’s called a Ruin Echo shard," she explained. "From a Ruin Echo Beast." She said, stating the obvious.
"When the blade strikes something, it leaves behind residual destructive energy that detonates a second later. It’s more like a bomb, you know."
Axel’s eyes narrowed slightly in curiosity. That one sounded dangerous. Imagine the kind of damage he could do with that.
"Before I choose," Axel said, "what level are these shards?"
Lynn glanced at him, then raised an eyebrow.
"All of them are from Lesser-tier Mythic beasts," she said.
Mythic beasts were ranked just like mutants, broken down by strength and threat level, starting from the strongest at the top and descending downward.
Primordial beasts.
Sovereign beasts.
Apex beasts.
Advanced beasts.
Lesser beasts.
He already knew the answer before he asked, but something about Lynn’s tone made him curious.
"Do you have anything higher?" Axel asked. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Lynn looked at him for a long moment, then smiled in a way that wasn’t entirely kind.
"A first-year asking for higher-tier shards?" she said. "Well, isn’t that ambitious?"
"What are you? The rich Lord of Pyro?" She mocked subtly. She knew there was no way Axel could afford something higher.
"So how much for the lesser shards?" Axel asked instead.
"Five hundred CNT," Lynn replied without hesitation.
Axel’s eyes widened.
"Five hundred?!"
"For one shard," Lynn added casually.
Axel stared at the display, then at the sword, then back at her. Five hundred CNT for a lesser-tier shard. He didn’t even want to imagine what an Apex or Sovereign shard would cost.
He slowly slid the sword back into its sheath.
"Yeah," Axel said quietly. "I’ll... think about it."
Lynn shrugged. "Come back when you’ve decided."
Five hundred CNT. If Axel wanted to afford a nice upgrade, he might have to come up with a way to earn some money.
Looks like it was time to get a job.
---
Axel’s stomach started growling. He paused and pressed a hand lightly against his abdomen.
"...Yeah, I should eat first," he muttered to himself.
Hunting for a job on an empty stomach didn’t sound smart, especially not in a place like this school where trouble seemed to find him whether he wanted it or not. With a quiet sigh, Axel changed direction and headed toward the cafeteria to meet up with Ares and Rick.
The moment he got closer, he knew something was wrong. The cafeteria was noisy, louder than usual. It wasn’t the normal chatter of students talking over meals or arguing about training results.
This was different.
A small crowd had gathered near the center of the cafeteria.
"Axel!"
Someone called out and Axel turned around.
Rick was running toward him, weaving through students with frantic movements.
"Rick?" Axel said quickly. "Slow down. What happened?"
Rick reached him and bent forward slightly as he struggled to catch his breath.
"Ares—" Rick started, then stopped.
"Ares what?? What’s happening, Rick?"
Rick couldn’t speak, he panted so hard that Axel’s patience was starting to dwindle.
Finally, he spoke.
"It’s Ares... he’s in trouble."
