They arrived at a modest but well-kept building.

The girl pushed open the door and shouted inside.

"Mom! I brought customers!"

A woman emerged from the back.

Her expression shifted immediately upon seeing her daughter.

"Lina! Did you go out to the streets again?!"

Then she noticed the well-dressed person standing before her.

Her demeanor changed instantly.

She bowed, pushing her daughter to do the same.

"I apologize, did my daughter cause you any trouble?"

Lunaris waved his hands.

"Far from it. In fact, she helped us."

He smiled at Lina, who beamed with pride.

"Are you the owner here?"

The woman straightened.

"Yes, I am."

"I’d like to book a room for the night. How much is it?"

"Our basic room is five copper coins," she explained. "But the standard room is two silver coins. It comes with food and bath access."

Lunaris nodded.

Copper.

He guessed this was of lower value than silver. He didn’t know the exact conversion though.

"We’ll take the standard."

He produced two silver coins and handed them to her.

"Thank you very much!"

She accepted the coins, then turned to her daughter.

"Lina, show the guests to their room."

She looked back at Lunaris and Mira.

"I was just in the process of preparing dinner. You can come down to the common area when it’s ready."

"Thank you."

Lina led them up a wooden staircase and down a clean hallway.

She stopped before a door and pushed it open.

"Here’s your room!"

Lunaris looked inside.

It was simple but seemed comfortable. A bed, a small table, a chair by the window. Clean linens. A faint scent of lavender.

"If you need anything, just call for me or my mom!"

"Thank you, Lina."

She grinned and skipped off down the hallway.

Lunaris and Mira stepped inside.

The door closed behind them.

...

Lunaris instantly transformed back into his slime form.

He bounced onto the table, his body settling comfortably on the wooden surface.

His form relaxed.

As expected, I feel most comfortable in my true form.

He sighed internally.

So much had happened today.

He wondered how the others were doing back home.

One thing was certain - living in a human nation was impossible. There were just too many risk factors.

Not that he was planning on running away and staying here.

Tomorrow, he would visit the market, get what he came here for, and return to the forest.

To think I’d feel so uneasy around humans.

He really had become a monster through and through.

That reminds me...

He took out a magic stone.

He had noticed something strange about this thing earlier. They formed inside monsters, right?

After absorbing one and analyzing it, he had realized its structure.

It was basically just a concentration of mana following a certain arrangement.

He wondered if...

He concentrated.

His slime form let out a slight blue glow.

And then...

He spat out a magic stone.

He looked at it.

This one he had made himself by imitating the pattern.

He observed it carefully, comparing it to the original.

It was completely indistinguishable.

Doesn’t this mean... Infinite Money?

His form deflated slightly.

Well, not really.

It still cost mana to make. Though with his mana capacity, he might be able to produce quite a few of them.

It seemed he wouldn’t have money issues for tomorrow’s mission.

Half an hour later.

Lunaris jumped from the table and transformed into his human form as he landed.

At that same moment, a knock came at the door.

Mira walked toward it, her hand reaching into her cloak.

"Who is it?"

"It’s Lina!"

"What do you want?"

"Dinner is ready!"

Lunaris walked up and opened the door.

Lina stood there with a bright smile.

"Thank you for informing us."

He didn’t need food for sustenance. Neither did Mira or the other rabbit beastmen after receiving his Moon Body blessing - the Rapid Regeneration it included sustained them through mana alone.

That being said...

He couldn’t help but wish to taste the cuisine of humans.

He kind of missed it, having not had any for so long.

They followed Lina to the common room and sat at a table.

A few moments later, Lina brought out their food - warm bread, a hearty stew, and sliced vegetables arranged neatly on wooden plates.

Lunaris took a bite.

"It’s quite good."

Lina beamed.

"I know, right? My mom makes the best food in the world!"

She puffed out her chest proudly.

"See? I didn’t lie to you!"

"Indeed you didn’t."

He set down his spoon.

"Could you help me with something?"

"Sure!"

He placed a silver coin on the table.

"You see, I’m not from around here, so I’m unfamiliar with your currency. Could you explain how it works?"

Lina’s eyes lit up.

"Okay! So we use copper as our base currency."

She held up her fingers as she spoke.

"Ten copper equals one silver."

She pointed at the coin on the table.

"And ten silver equals one gold."

She paused, thinking.

"I heard that ten gold equals one crown. But I don’t know if that’s real - only high-level nobles would trade with that kind of currency."

Lunaris nodded along.

"What about magic stones?"

"Oh! Magic stones are ranked from E to A. The rank comes from the monster the stone was gotten from. So a D Rank monster would give a D Rank stone."

She continued enthusiastically.

"They’re used mostly by adventurers, but nowadays most people will accept them as payment too."

She counted on her fingers.

"An E Rank stone is worth one silver. D Rank is one gold. C Rank is ten gold. B Rank is a hundred gold. And A Rank is a thousand gold!"

Lunaris processed this.

So from our quest, we received ten gold in total.

He still didn’t have the full picture.

"What about spending? How much do things cost?"

Lina tilted her head, thinking.

"Well... you can buy a loaf of bread for three copper. A street meal costs about five copper."

She gestured around.

"Staying at an inn like ours is two silver a night. A sword would cost around five gold. A horse is about fifteen gold."

She tapped her chin.

"And maybe a house would be around a hundred gold?"

She looked at him hopefully.

"Does that help?"

He nodded.

"It does. Very much."

He looked at her with genuine appreciation.

"You’re quite knowledgeable. Do you go to school?"

Lina shook her head.

"School is only affordable for nobles. I learn by listening to people in the streets."

Lunaris reached over and patted her head.

"What a little genius you are."

He picked up the silver coin from the table.

"Here, have this."

Her eyes went wide.

"I can have this?!"

"Of course."

She clutched the coin to her chest, practically vibrating with excitement.

He took out another silver coin.

"Give this to your mom. Tell her I said thanks for the food."

Lina snatched it eagerly and turned to run.

"Yippee!"

She dashed toward the kitchen, coins clutched tightly in her hands.
