Chapter 35 - The Journey To The South [3]

As Matthew opened his mouth to address the people again, a young boy whose mother embraced him tightly screamed.

"It's Noctis students, mommy we're safe!"

The mother and other passengers shifted their focus to Matthew as their faces lit up with hope and expectations.

Kai didn't like the look in their eyes one bit but at least they weren't focused on him.

Why would it be, Matthew had the body and face like a classic hero, he even wore the academy's coat while the others held weapons befitting their status and Ikenna's height spoke volumes for him.

But for Kai, well, he looked more like an idol and a pretty boy stuck in a train.

"Hey Mr. idol, you can sit with me till the mages finish their work."

Kai pointed at himself as he stared at the beautiful young woman with black hair and brown eyes. "Me?"

She nodded in response. "We better not get in their way."

'Do I look that mundane?'

[At least you are considered pretty, some don't even have that.]

Elia chuckled a little and replied. "Don't worry, he is also a student of Noctis." She paused then continued using her hands to gesture each of her words. "Though he is a little weak and most times just tagging along."

The girl's eyes were filled with pity like he was a child she needed to take care of.

"Thanks for nothing." He whispered to Elia.

"What? I was helping you," she replied.

Kai sighed and walked next to Matthew. "So what do you plan to do?"

Matthew waited for some time before answering. "What other plan do we need, we go out there and kill them all."

"Are you brain-dead?" Kai asked.

"No, not that I know of, why do you ask?"

"Only someone without a functioning brain can go out there without a plan."

Matthew shook his head and said, "You are acting as if this isn't broad daylight, no ghost is going to pop out of nowhere."

Kai looked at him, perplexed by his words. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"I don't know, ask yourself." Matthew replied, summoning his spear.

"Hah... Whatever, at least send your spear out to scout." Kai asked Matthew, making him stare at Kai warily.

Kai retorted, "Don't look at me like that, you know about my ability so why can't I know about yours?"

Matthew sighed as a smile formed on his lips. "I knew you were a dangerous guy. What else do you know?"

"Everything including when you were born and all your private information that you hide from even your parents."

"Ha, very funny, are you some sort of god or a watcher?"

'But I am telling the truth though.'

Matthew looked at his spear and whispered to it. Immediately, it flew out of the train.

Just like Kai's weapons, the 'Shinto siblings', Matthew's spear 'Wukong' was also a cosmic-rank vesper and a part of the ten dread weapons.

Which were capable of growing with their user and shattering the universe with a full-powered slash.

'I almost forgot, I do have to meet Lefèvre Tue, legendary blacksmith of the dwarves.'

[Are you really thinking of combing the three Shinto siblings? You know there is a high chance it wouldn't melt and you will also be showing someone that you have not just one but three of the lost dread weapons.]

[Worst case scenario you lose the blades through either theft or the geezer straight up breaking it.]

'I know but this is still worth the try. Maybe I can fully unlock the power of dread if I do it.'

[Are you sure you weren't a gambler?]

'... I am pretty sure you can read my memories.'

[And you can edit them.]

"... Oh, Matthew's spear is back." Kai muttered.

[... Hah.]

Matthew gripped his spear as a faint light formed in his palm. He then turned to the team. "It's a pack of siren Wolfsbur."

'Aren't they the ones that attacked obsessive Melissa?'

[Yes, the same ones that were meant to be guarding the elixir.]

"As far as I know, they are tier 9 drifters." Ikenna said, pondering.

"Yes, as you said they are tier 9, and to worsen the situation, there are about 12 of them and we don't have a suit."

Ikenna raised his hands. "I have a suit, I got an offer from my dadam's guild."

The remaining also voiced out the fact they too had a suit and soon their attention was locked on Kai.

"Why are you guys looking at me, you know I don't have any reasonable offer yet."

"But Kai," Elia said. "The Elijah guild gave you an offer didn't they?"

"Yes, and what does that have to do with anything?"

"Never mind."

Kai shifted his gaze to Matthew. "So, any plans?"

Matthew pondered for a moment before saying, "The five of us fight the monsters since we have a suit, and Kai provides support."

'Damn, why am I stuck in the extra's role.'

[You should have taken the offer.]

'Never!!! Elijah guild are worse than extras and it will only get worse later in the novel.'

[I guess you are right... But I have a feeling you are waiting for a deal from the mages association.]

'Yes, since it is owned by the Asuras and controlled by them.'

Matthew soon stepped forward and headed for the exit of the train and the others soon followed with Kai moving behind.

The door of the train opened and as Kai stepped his foot down, an attack so fast that his eyes could almost not perceive it flew in his direction.

'Thunder-type Wolfsbur, shit.'

Kai instinctively channeled mana to his feet and jumped to the side. The slight graze of the attack was enough to stun him for a second.

The others turned their heads to Kai who fell on the stone floor by the train side.

Without giving them time to breathe, the Wolfsbur lunged towards Kai but before it could attack, a figure moved in front of him.

As if it already knew what was going on, sky blue energy flowered through Lilith's body as the system rang in her head.

[YOU HAVE ACTIVATED ABILITY... RAIN'S SONG.]

The blindfolded Lilith dodged the Wolfsbur's forelimb as if she already knew where its feet were heading and, with a sharp thrust of her sabre, sent the drifter flying.

She turned to Kai and said in a concerned tone, "Kai, are you okay?"

"Yeah, just caught off guard, but thanks."

She smiled softly as Kai stood and moved closer to the group who were standing by the side of the third cabin of the train.

"Let's get this over with," Matthew said as the wristband he wore glowed slightly and a suit that looked like it was made of metal and leather crawled up his skin.

It looked almost identical to Princess Victoria's, only with a red line on each arm.

The others followed his lead and donned their individual suits, making Kai stick out further.

Matthew flexed his spear as he fixed his gaze on the drifters that moved cautiously in front of the train.
