Infinite Cube: Extra's Life in Another World-Chapter 37: The Journey To The South [5]
Chapter 37 - The Journey To The South [5]
"That was exhausting," Matthew exclaimed as he collapsed into the chair next to Kai.
"Tell me about it," Elia remarked while nodding. "Being a hero sure is demanding." She briefly glanced at Kai before nodding again.
"Why are you exaggerating? They weren't even real tier 8, just quasi-tier 8," Kai stated, his tone laced with irritation.
"Who cares? They don't even know what tiers are, so we're heroes regardless," Matthew agreed, nodding toward Elia.
Sighing, Kai summoned his UI. Just like him, Lilith and Ikenna were looking at their own system.
Meanwhile, Junpei remained absorbed in the magazine he was reading. Strangely enough, its cover was wrapped in white paper, making its contents indecipherable without reading it.
'Let's just hope I'm the one with the dirty mind.'
Kai's eyes scanned his stats area until they eventually settled on the new stat points he had earned from defeating the two quasi-tier 8 drifters.
'Let's see.'
(CUBE INTERFACE)
Total Stats: Core Ability: 1300/1000
Stat points: 337
Stranger's Sword Dance: (1/9)
Kai stared at the stat points once more before tapping on the Total stats.
Total Stats [Core Capacity]:
Strength (STR) - 100/100
Agility (AGI) - 100/100
Dexterity (DEX) - 100/100
Intelligence (INT) - 100/100
Charm (CHA) - 200/100
Endurance (END) - 150/100
Luck (LUK) - 400/100
Mana (MA) - 150/100
Total = 1300/1000 Points – 337
Kai let out a faint smile before selecting where he wanted to allocate the points.
First, he put sixty points into charm, because why not?
Then, fifty into mana, he couldn't afford his skills running out due to mana insufficiency.
Sixty went into luck, forty into strength, thirty into endurance, and fifty into agility.
'I don't need dexterity for now, so I'll put 10 in it, and the rest into intelligence.'
Kai exhaled deeply and looked at his distracted companions. Then, his gaze shifted to the large estate that was now in view.
'The Silver Duchy's branch, finally,' Kai thought as he observed the rest of the group rising from their chairs.
The train soon came to a halt at the station closest to the duchy, and as they exited, the passengers continued to sing their praises. For Kai, however, they seemed more concerned than appreciative.
[I do love how they treat you like a child.]
'Sometimes, I can't tell if you're with me or against me.'
[As I've said, whoever makes me happy, I'll follow.]
'That sounds like you'll betray me if I become uninteresting.'
[Don't joke about that, Kai. I'd never betray you.]
'Not even for Matthew?'
[No.]
'Not even for the greatest adventure?'
[Never.]
'Not even for a body with unlimited access to Netflix and any food you want?'
[...]
Kai smiled softly. 'Just so you know, I would betray you for that.'
[Motherf****]
'Hah... The content is censored.'

[Tch!]
'I hope we don't have to waste any other time doing nothing.'
Kai increased his pace to match that of his companions.
The group made their way toward the road, where, by the side of a burger restaurant, stood a beautiful sports car.
The car was stunning, bathed in the warm glow of the afternoon sun. A slight breeze blowing northward made it even more striking.
Deep scarlet in color, with razor-sharp angles, scissor doors that rose like wings, and a roaring V12 engine that sounded like a beast from hell.
This was Kai's dream car.
'Hold it in, just hold it in,' Kai told himself as tears welled up in his eyes.
Elia turned and looked at him, a cheeky smile curling up her lips.
Kai immediately masked his expression and pushed aside the feelings of awe and euphoria.
'I don't know what she will do or say next.'
With a clear mind, Kai finally noticed the man standing by the car, clad in a black-and-white formal suit.
He had white hair, a goatee, and a mustache.
His presence exuded dignity and refinement, something Kai had never seen in an ordinary butler, not even in movies.
"Good afternoon, young master," the man greeted, bowing gently.
"Good afternoon, Bethel," Matthew responded, handing him his bag.
"Are you perhaps returning to the duchy, or shall I escort you to the dungeon the Lord prepared for you?" Bethel inquired.
"Hmm." Matthew pondered, looking at his group before turning back to Bethel. "I think someone here won't be very happy if I waste any of his time."
Bethel's eyes widened slightly before revealing his violet eyes. 'The young master is willing to listen to someone else's opinion.'
A smile slowly spread across his face as he nodded. "Very well, young master. I shall take you to the dungeon." He paused, then cautioned, "I will say this once more, the dungeons have been getting out of hand lately. If anything happens, find a way out of there."
Matthew nodded. "I will do as you say." He paused. "Did you get the thing?"
Bethel flinched, then walked to the car's second seat and retrieved a smartwatch. "Here it is, young master. As you requested, it is made from the same material as your combat suit–A tier 7 drifter corpse."
He continued probing. "If I may ask, young master, who did you request this for?"
Matthew turned and pointed at Kai, who stood behind the group.
Bethel blinked twice in shock, looking at the man Matthew had pointed to. Unlike the rest of the group, the young man was relatively modest. His only standout feature was his face.
'Is the young master into boys?' he thought, placing his hand on his mustache. 'I suppose he looks somewhat feminine if he lets his hair grow and remove his muscles, but he doesn't seem to be a mage.'
Bethel let out a long sigh. Obeying his master's orders, he handed Kai the smartwatch and pulled out a tablet.
"It might sting a little, but don't worry, it won't destroy your pretty face," he said, winking at Matthew.
'Why do I suddenly feel scared?'
[Me too. Feels like the old dude is thinking something weird.]
Kai shook off the feeling of dread and put on the watch.
It fit him perfectly, though it couldn't exactly be called a watch, as it resembled both a bracelet and a watch at the same time.
The tablet began to beep, as did the smartwatch. A puzzled expression appeared on Bethel's face, quickly replaced by horror.
He stepped forward, removing the watch on Kai's wrist and buckling it back.
But no matter how he placed it, the notification that appeared on the screen of the tablet didn't reduce. Instead, it slowly rose, as if the figures changing in emotion further fueled his link with the suit.
'How is it even possible,' he thought, dragging his body back to the front of the group.
Bethel could feel sweat running down his entire body as he turned and looked at the inconspicuous young man fiddling with the watch.
Only one thought entered his mind at that moment, a thought that had never crossed his mind with any younger master of the Silver family since he became a butler:
His hands trembled slightly; he tried to calm his expression, but to no avail, it was something truly unheard of in an apprentice. "Monster." He finally muttered.
