Infinite Origin Summoner:Rise of Good for Nothing Extra-Chapter 40: Journey to Firebull City
A luxurious carriage moved through the dirt roads. Other travelers immediately stepped aside and allowed it to pass through.
According to the rumors, the Firebull City governor’s only daughter liked to travel in this particular carriage, and from what they heard, that girl’s heart was blacker than charcoal. If they got on her bad side, they could forget about living in peace.
Most of the people on the road were low-leveled awakeners or traders who relied on Firebull City’s large market to make a living. As such, the thought of offending the only daughter of the ruler of such a place didn’t even cross their mind.
Meanwhile, Zarek sat down with a dazed look in his eyes, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. Neither the coachman nor the high goblin princess dared to disturb him. The coachman hesitated because the black-haired young man was too fearsome. During their traveling, they were attacked by wild monsters several times, but a single move from this young man had reduced them to a pile of burnt ash.
Zerin on the other hand simply knew that her master Zarek was probably examining the status window—a completely normal activity.
Then her eyes drifted to the luxurious coach. She could feel a gaze filled with hostility scanning her master’s figure from time to time. If it wasn’t for Zarek stopping her, she would have already charged inside to see who dared to look in his direction in such a way.
Zarek, unaware of her thoughts, looked at Misery’s status window:
[First Sequence Summon – Misery]
[Grade: Epic]
[Infinite Origin: 1202]
[Strength: 30] +
[Agility: 10.3] +
[Perception: 10.9] +
[Physique: 10.4] +
[Mana: 10.1] +
Skills: [Prey Sense Level 2]+ [Morphing Fireball Level 1]+
After the battle of ultimate fate, the amount of Infinite Origin had increased significantly. If he wanted, he could increase Misery’s strength again by a large margin.
But Zarek was in no rush. After examining Misery’s stats, he looked at his own:
[Name: Zarek Silversword]
[Class: First Sequence Ultimate Grade – Infinite Origin Summoner]
[Level: 13 (12/1110)]
[Strength: 4.6]
[Agility: 4.8]
[Perception: 4.9]
[Physique: 4.4]
[Mana: 73.1]
[Unassigned Stat Points: 0]
Without realizing, he had reached level 13 in a single day. If others were to get to know about his feat, they would only scream "monster."
For normal awakeners, it took months if not years of constant grinding before they reached this level, while Zarek had reached this level in just one day.
However, Zarek didn’t let this number rise to his head. He knew this little strength didn’t amount to anything in the grand scheme of things. If he wanted to survive the upcoming apocalypse, he at least needed to reach the peak of third order in these two years, or else even with his summons, his death would be miserable.
Don’t underestimate the gap between the sequences. Although the difference was of only one word, in reality the gap between each sequence was like heaven and earth. Even the weakest of second sequence beings could level him with a slap.
After all, even the weakest second sequence being’s stats were above 125. Zarek might be strong, but when in front of such force, he was nothing.
Thinking up to this point, Zarek’s lips couldn’t help but curl up slightly. Of course, that only applied if he was a regular awakener.
Soon time continued to pass. Even though the Firebull City was still far away, with the carriage’s speed they should get there by nighttime.
Firebull City.
A sudden dungeon break had occurred out of nowhere. To tackle the situation, a city-wide lockdown had been imposed and awakeners were asked to gather around the dungeon.
In one of the first sequence epic grade dungeons at the center of the Firebull City.
Firebull City’s governor stood with his hands clasped behind his back. The terrifying aura of a second sequence was fully on display, sending fear such that the monsters who were causing havoc dared not get any closer.
Still, from time to time, some monsters would barge in, but as soon as they got near the governor—as if stepping inside a meat grinder—they would be immediately crushed to paste.
Cries of awakeners and sounds of battle continued to echo:
"I need three healers at the strategic position!"
"Mages, prepare your spells! The next wave would be coming any time!"
Seeing this scene, the Firebull governor felt a little powerless. Although he was already at the second sequence, he could do nothing about the situation other than making sure the monsters didn’t damage the city.
"Thankfully, my precious daughter is out of the city..."
He thought with a sigh of relief. Usually he was against his daughter going out frequently, but now he suddenly felt glad that he wasn’t too strict. After all, no one could tell how the situation would transform—he might not be able to ensure her safety.
From time to time, the gazes of surrounding awakeners would turn to the governor, admiration in their eyes. So this was what a second sequence was capable of.
For many of them, reaching the second sequence was the dream.
Just then the ground shook and a terrifying pressure descended on the surroundings. Immediately the faces of all the awakeners changed.
The sign was clear—the second wave was about to begin.
The dungeon flashed and a storm of mana flared out, followed by a roar. Dozens of creatures shot out, instantly taking to the air.
"Dragons...!"
Firebull governor looked at the blue glowing beings flying in the sky with disbelief, a single question rang in his head:
How was this possible...?
Dragons were incredibly rare and powerful creatures, usually found in legendary grade dungeons and that too on the higher floors. So how could they suddenly appear here?
Don’t tell me the dungeon evolved. Suddenly a very terrifying possibility appeared in his mind. Just like awakeners, dungeons themselves could evolve, though the process was extremely long. There had been instances of only a couple of dungeons evolving over the past decades.
Sadly, there was no one to answer his question. While he was frozen in shock, the sky of Firebull City was filled with draconic roars and orange flames raining down.
Awakeners looked at the monstrous beings flying in the sky with absolute horror. It was an absolute disaster.
Zarek and his group had been traveling for hours. Sitting all this time on the rough bench was making his butt hurt. For the first time, Zarek missed the absence of cars—those diesel-powered beasts.
Just then he felt someone looking at him from behind. This time however, he didn’t ignore but actively called out:
"Friend, if you are feeling alone, why don’t you come out and join us?" Zarek said in an extremely plain tone. Zerin on the other hand frowned—her woman’s senses had started to tingle.
They had been traveling for so long. They should reach the Firebull City in another hour or so. With that thought in mind, Zarek decided to gather information about the city from the daughter of the governor herself.
The novel hadn’t mentioned that much information about the city, except that it was one of the cities at the northern borders, frequently attacked by the firebulls of the northern mountains.
Other than that, the city was extremely prosperous because of the four dungeons present in it. Tears of Medusa, an epic drop rumored to expand the lifespan, was found in the dungeons of the city.
Just as Zarek finished speaking, the curtain parted and the figure of a young girl in her early twenties walked out. The girl’s long jet-black hair freely dangled behind her. Her slightly upturned eyes were focused on Zarek’s figure.
Zarek simply raised his hand and said: "Yo! Nice to meet you, Firebull City governor’s daughter."
The anger which had slightly subsided once again flared. Jasmine couldn’t stop herself from cursing: "Barbarian! You criminal! Let’s see how you plan to walk out once we reach the city. If I don’t have you lashed in front of the city, I will not be the daughter of the great Firebull governor!"
Zarek merely nodded and agreed with her: "As you say, my lady, but before that, can you pay the protection fee?"
Jasmine was once again stunned by his words. First, this fellow had dared to hijack her carriage, and now even demanded the protection fee. Is he mentally ill or what?
Jasmine couldn’t stop herself from thinking.
On the other hand, Zarek pointed five fingers in her direction and slowly said:
"This carriage was attacked five times. If it wasn’t for me taking action, you might not have ever been able to reach the city at all."
"Do you understand what I say?"
"You bastard..." Jasmine wanted to argue, but in front of facts she could only grit her teeth.
Zarek merely looked at her with an expressionless face.
Feeling his gaze, Jasmine let out a sigh and said: "Fine, once we reach the city, I will pay you in full."
At the end of her sentence, her eyes seemed to turn slightly cold. How could Zarek fail to notice that? But he simply didn’t care.
