Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 1139: Cost and benefit
"When are you going to teach me this neat trick?" Rain asked.
"When you become skilled enough to do so," Sakaki said. "You only have one path with truly electric skills, after all."
Sakaki had a point… but he leveled up that path a few times lately. He just didn't have the chance to equip it since the bonus of making it level up wasn't that impressive.
Level 25: Lightning Strike - Unleash a powerful Lightning Strike, targeting enemies in a small area with intense electrical damage. Cost: 1000 mana per second.
Level 30: Conductor's Mastery - Learn to manipulate electricity in the environment, allowing you to channel and redirect lightning for various purposes.
Level 35: Stormcaller's Fury - Summon a devastating Stormcaller's Fury, unleashing a tempest of lightning bolts and causing widespread electrical damage to enemies. Cost: 5000 mana per second.
Level 40: Arcane Electrification - Infuse your spells with Arcane Electrification, imbuing them with the chance to stun or paralyze enemies with each hit. Cost: 10.000 mana per second.
"It sure is useful… I truly need to learn how to use it more…" Rain thought. "Still, there are so many skills to level up, and I have only so much mana."
In any case, while Rain was busy feetding the javelin with his mana, the other groups escorted the scorpions people back to the place they found them. They could easily cross that massive amount of sand since they had traits similar to the scorpions.
Scorpions are known for their distinctive appearance and predatory behavior. Scorpions have large, pincer-like appendages called pedipalps, which are used for capturing and holding prey.
The severity of a scorpion's venom varies among species, and while most scorpions are not dangerous to humans, some can deliver venom that may cause discomfort or health issues.
Scorpions are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, ranging from deserts to rainforests. They have evolved to withstand extreme temperatures and can endure long periods without food. Adding all that to their current forms that evolved and became human-like, or perhaps it was the other way around, and then it would become clear their true strength.
"Speaking of which… I wonder how Isa can talk with them," Rain thought. "Being able to read their aura is different from saying things and making them understand all that. Regardless, I could feel their mana."
"It looks like they aren't that eager to cooperate with us," Jori said. "Maybe they will change their minds once we kill all the giant centipedes in this world."
"I don't think that it will be that simple," Reca said. "They didn't even consider working with us to make their home planet safer, and they aren't true warriors. They had some strength, but they were far weaker than us as well. I can only think that they will be thankful to us and will share some of their knowledge and technology with us, but nothing else."
"That will be better than nothing…" Liss said. "Besides, gathering allies will also bring a lot of issues as well—clashes of ideologies, the language barrier, the change in their environment. For now, they might not join our cause for those reasons, but maybe in a few years…"
Liss couldn't complete her sentence… the idea that they would have to keep fighting for more decades and hope that those people would join them after so long seemed almost insane. They couldn't afford to be that hopeful… they had to consider their steps with more concrete things.
"Any results so far?" Roan asked when he approached Rain.
"I only learned a bit about their regenerating skills and resistances," Sakaki explained. "It is enough to make that kind of knowledge become skills for a path, but it will take some time to teach everyone. Gathering this kind of information is like completing a massive puzzle."
"I should have known…" Rain said. "Some pieces can form an image that can be useful, but the whole thing is something that we need months, if not years, to truly understand. Well, I suppose it is better than nothing. Can more mana speed the process up?"
"No, that won't help that much," Sakaki said. "Since your mana isn't really mine. Once you learn this kind of technique and level it up, that will help a lot."
The discovery and interactions with the people of a new world seemed a bit disappointing so far, but at least the group wasn't going to leave completely empty-handed. In any case, two hours later, the other two groups returned, and then they began to prepare the ambushes against the other giant centipedes.
According to the scorpion people, they knew of the existence of at least three of those giant centipedes.
With that in mind, the group began to prepare to ambush and fight four of them… just in case to avoid unpleasant surprises. and after one hour of waiting, Terra, Danny, and Annie, who were on the lookout job, sensed the approaches of the beasts since they were the best earth mages after Rain.
"Rain, you continue with your task and try to relay as much information to the headquarters as possible," Roan said. "We will kill them as fast as possible since we can't waste this chance."
Those were some ominous words… thanks to it, Rain couldn't help but get nervous about it. Soon enough, the warriors split into three groups, so it seemed that three other giant centipedes were coming.
"Shit… that is why I hate the support role," Rain said.
As if things weren't already complicated, the situation took a turn for the worse. The enormous centipede that the group had managed to capture began to tremble ominously. It seemed like the creature was responding to the presence of the approaching others…
In the midst of this chaos, Rain found himself faced with a difficult decision. He couldn't rush to aid his comrades until the giant centipede was dealt with, as its increasing agitation hinted at potential danger. The urgency to eliminate this threat or to focus on his job became even more paramount…
