Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 796 Crossing
Rain understood that overcoming any barrier typically involved destroying its core, neutralizing its source, or inflicting damage beyond the barrier's capacity to sustain itself. Keeping this in mind, he attempted to excavate through the layer of earth while actively employing his mana to counteract the influences of the path system.
This strategic maneuver aimed to disrupt the barrier's functionality, potentially enabling him to breach it without triggering excessive attention or resistance.
Much to his surprise, he was able to pierce the barrier with his hand and throw away a handful of earth from it, but as soon as he moved it, the some earth appeared and repaired the damage that he had caused.
"It can be done, I just need to find the right amount of mana to cross this barrier without keeping myself stuck in it," Rain thought.
There was a risk that Rain could find himself without mana while he tried to cross it… he didn't know how thick the barrier was, after all.
Still, after doing some tests, Rain couldn't help but think of what created the barrier. Was it someone? A human or another species? Someone wanted to keep the destroyed Earth literally buried in the past… and it was hard to imagine that such a being would be living on the upper layer.
"I guess they should be here… the creator of the system and of the barrier," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Given the knowledge Rain had acquired recently, he could only speculate that Joanis must have obtained such information from a source familiar with the existence of the layers. The anti-magic barrier created by Joanis had a striking resemblance to the barrier delineating the layers.
The similarity led Rain to ponder that Joanis likely gleaned insights from someone knowledgeable about these layered boundaries, providing him the means to develop a barrier akin to the one separating these realms.
It was hard to imagine that this being was the same that created the system… what would someone like that gain by helping a scumbag like Joanis? Still, now that Rain thought about it… with his knowledge about magic tools, barriers and how to train his special soldiers… Maybe Joanis found archives about Earth from the past… before those fifty thousand years.
"Things are getting to grand in scale… think about this later," Rain thought.

Rain used his enhanced abilities and the anti-system domain to break through the barrier, creating an opening large enough for him to pass. This barrier was formidable, resembling the layered defenses he had encountered before.
Aware of his dwindling mana reserves, he had to work swiftly, the urgency of his situation clear—he estimated only a brief five-minute window to traverse to the other side before the barrier could run out of mana. This race against time intensified his efforts, emphasizing the importance of speed and efficiency in his actions.
"Maybe I should create another ring that has the sole goal of storing mana," Rain thought. "It has to store mana and give it back to me when I need it… but what skill can do that?"
That was only possible when the mana stored had a goal, and the goal had to be one of the skills that Rain… otherwise, he couldn't create a magic relic with that kind of effect.
In the end, Rain didn't have a skill to actively restore his own mana… the best he could do was to make multiple ring that would make him use Meditation Mastery. Since the effects could stack, it would be enough, the only problem was that Rain's mind would become completely focused on it. It was like making his brain endure a high-intensity activity ten times over on the same amount of time.
"Each ring should give me five more minutes to work… perhaps three of them will do the trick," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "That ammount of work in twenty minutes should be something that my brain can take, but I should do some tests as well."
Rain began to work on making the rings and since his parameters and mana pool increased in the last battle, Rain was able to make one of them per day. That was very nice…

After he equipped them, Rain immediately felt the weight on his mind… it was truly difficult to keep his goal in mind when using the rings since their goal was to keep his mind clear of everything.
Perhaps Rain could endure another one, but he won't be able to work on digging through the barrier… at the same time, five of them would completely seal off his mind from the outside world… the rings would turn him into an empty shell.
"I never thought that such a useful relic could become this scary," Rain thought.
Rain, having a hard time dealing with intense hunger and thirst, managed to alleviate his immediate needs somewhat by conjuring magic to produce water and summoning nutrients using elemental manipulation. His magical prowess had grown, affording him the ability to materialize these essentials by transforming mana inside his domain.
However, the experience of consuming these artificially summoned nutrients lacked any semblance of taste or satisfaction, leaving him feeling unfulfilled despite the physical sustenance it provided.
After arranging his rudimentary sustenance and tending to immediate needs, Rain decided to rest for a short while. He understood the necessity of unburdening his mind to tackle the barrier ahead. Rest seemed vital to ready himself mentally for the daunting task of overcoming the barrier separating the layers that separated him from his goal.
After that, Rain woke up feeling pretty good… perhaps too good since he didn't have the habit of sleeping naked or staying naked for several days to no end for that matter.
Once Rain was ready, he took a deep breath and then began to cross the barrier… he suddenly felt like he had been buried underground as he moved all the earth on his way and tried to swim upward in an endless pool of concrete before it could seal him forever…
