Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 948: This could be a problem
After a quick meeting between both factions, the decision was made to take flight, initiating the journey in opposite directions – one towards the north, and the other towards the south. However, upon heading south, the climate became significantly colder, intensifying the freezing conditions.
The drastic drop in temperature posed a considerable challenge, especially for the sea folk and the demi-humans. In response to the cold, they swiftly altered their course, opting to veer further north where the conditions were comparatively better.
This strategic move aimed to ensure that their respective groups would face less harsh environmental challenges, enabling them to navigate and survive more comfortably amidst the frosty terrains.
"I am testing the range of the relic, please respond as soon as possible if you hear this message," Isa said.
"Kill all ntr bastards and the ones who are into that shit," Rain said when Liss tried to reply.
"What is NTR?" Liss asked while frowning.
"Something worse than the seven sins combined, a forbidden thing that the world shall never heard of," Rain replied.
"Does Isa know what it is?" Liss frowned.
"Let's hope not," Rain replied. "Anyway, we should arrive at the mountains in four hours, so rest as much as possible. Once the fight starts, we probably won't have to stop, even more so if their reinforcements come before we finish the targets."
That group had eleven thousand warriors, while the second had almost twenty thousand… it would be quite something if they couldn't kill the targets before their allies crossed three thousand kilometers, that being said, they had to be cautious of all possible outcomes.
Rain didn't sleep much in the last few days, but he didn't feel tired or relaxed enough to take a nap either… that was a first, he couldn't recall the last time he felt so tense before a battle… even before the battle one hundred years ago, he was nervous, but he was able to hide that from the others.
"You aren't trying to hide your tension," Terra said while massaging Rain's shoulders. "Is it because you have grown rusty or is it because you aren't leading thousands of people anymore?"

"I guess both things are the reason for it," Rain shrugged. "I am not planning to make the same mistakes from before, after all, and trying to hide my thoughts this time is useless."
Terra nodded several times since that was one of the reasons why she was determined to keep an eye on him. The others were also determined to do the same to avoid the same things happening before. This time, Seadrei wasn't there and no one around could knock them out.
While they were thinking about that, Rain soon found something weird in the distance. The group was flying at a lower altitude. Rain wanted to skillfully conserve some energy, benefiting from the decreased resistance of flying closer to the ground. However, their smooth progression was abruptly interrupted when Rain noticed faint silhouettes in the distance.
As they drew closer, the shapes solidified into distinguishable forms, revealing humanoid figures resembling dragons but lacking wings, similar in appearance to the formidable ice dragons.
These dragon-like beings stood at human height, yet their physical resemblance to the larger ice dragons was striking. Despite their lack of wings, their appearance and features bore a striking resemblance to those that Rain and the group had faced a few times.
This unforeseen encounter forced Rain and the entire group to slow down, their focus honed on these unexpected and mysterious creatures that were blocking their path.
"These are…" Nigel muttered.
"Are they newborn dragons?" Roan asked. "Have you seen them before, Rain?"
"No… their aura is quite powerful, they don't seem like newborn dragons," Rain said as he watched hundreds of those beasts charging at them.
"Shall we ignore them? We can't waste time, even more so if the others aren't finding obstacles," Terra asked.
"I will warn the others just in case," Liss said.
Rain decided to fly high to escape from them, but despite that, the beasts kept chasing them… that was going to be a problem, being attacked from two sides might cause unnecessary deaths to their side.
"This won't do it… those who have confidence in their long-ranged attacks and have some extra energy, should attack them," Esmeralda said. "Asche, you lead the attacks."
"Sounds good to me," Asche said while grinning.
Asche quickly organized a force of one hundred warriors and began to attack the monsters… now that Rain thought about it, he didn't recall seeing the spirit of the bow when he invited her to his mental landscape. He wondered if it was because the golden bow wasn't his, but that was a question for another time.
Asche's arrows and many other projectiles rain down on the blue lizard monsters, and much to their surprise, the mini dragons sidestepped a lot of the attacks… Asche's arrows destroyed the heads of a lot of them, so their defenses weren't that high. Still, more of them were coming from the sides.
"Rain, those things are pretty similar to the monsters that we saw on Nigel's memories," Larisa said.
"You mean the spawns of that giant lizard?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows.
While observing the creatures they were facing, Rain couldn't help but doubt the idea that these were merely the same spawns from the memories of Nigel. The monsters didn't bore a striking resemblance to the distorted, deformed entities reminiscent of the previous memories.
As Rain recalled them more closely, a realization struck him—their skin and bodily structure seemed to possess an unnatural quality. It appeared as though their flesh had undergone some form of manipulation or mutation, possibly influenced or altered by magic. The irregularities and deformities were too pronounced to simply attribute them to typical creatures or natural spawns.
This made Rain consider the possibility that these entities might be a result of magical manipulation or tampering…
"This could be a problem…" Rain thought as he watched the monsters explode after being killed.
