Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 971: Volcanoes
Sealyn had a point, highlighting the potential malevolent intent behind the barren landscape within the dragons' territory. It was clear the area was created with the purpose of inflicting harm and destruction, contributing to the unsettling and unnerving atmosphere that it exuded.
Moreover, Sealyn and Seara, due to their lineage, had a deep and profound connection with water. As descendants with a strong affinity for water-based abilities and magic, their inherent connection allowed them to sense and perceive the nature of water more keenly than others. This inherent bond might have played a role in their unease within this particular environment.
"We need to find anything that might be related to the stump, so we have to dig around here for a bit," Rain said.
Everyone nodded and began to work… Rain imagined that they would have the chance to talk with everyone a bit more, but everyone, just like him, was a workaholic and focused on the mission instead of talking about random things.
In any case, while following the fissures created by the roots of the stump, the group didn't find anything… Rain was expected to see some cocoons behind, but it seemed that even those shrunk and left the planet alongside the stump.
"I guess this is enough…" Rain said after a couple of hours. "If we won't find anything close to this place, we won't find anywhere either."
"I found something, some white sand," Danny said while pointing to a corner of the hole. "It has a massive quantity as well."
Everyone went to check the place, and soon they found what Danny was talking about it… it looked like sand, but it also looked a bit weird. No one felt like touching it. Who knows what will happen?
"Use my relic to touch that," The woman in the darkness said.
Rain sighed when everyone looked at him… they knew about the spirits in the relics, but they still felt weird hearing the voice of a suspicious woman coming from his father. If the eyes of Rain's wives could pierce, he would have more holes than the Brazilian defense when they lost 7 to 1 agaisnt Germany.
In any case, Rain decided to ignore the eyes and touched the dust with the sword, and he saw a reaction. The particles were pulled by the sword and absorbed, and then they truly turned into dust.
"These were the remnants of the dragons' bones," The woman in the darkness said. "They only had little mana in them… it looks like not even that massive stump was able to drain all of the mana in them."
"It was probably because the stump was focused on draining all the mana of the continent," Larisa said. "It would be more efficient, and nothing says that these wouldn't turn into dust eventually. Regardless, this place was probably a dragon's graveyard even before the time Isa was born."
Isa's words indeed aligned with the prevailing knowledge among the group members. It was a commonly acknowledged fact that mana, the life force energy, played an important role in retarding the aging process in individuals and preserving the condition of various objects.
In the case of dragon bones, this principle likely extended to their durability and endurance over extended periods, potentially spanning tens of thousands of years even after the dragons' demise.
Initially, after the death of an organism, bacteria and fungi start breaking down the soft tissues surrounding the bones. These microorganisms decompose the organic components of the bones, releasing various enzymes and chemicals.
Over time, the bones undergo mineralization, a process where the inorganic components of the bones are replaced by minerals such as calcium phosphate, making the bones harder and more resistant to decomposition. Rain explained that to everyone around with simpler words.
"You sure know your stuff, Dad," Sealyn said.
"Of course, do you think that your Moms fell for me just because of my devilish looks?" Rain asked. "I have brawl, beauty, and brain. I am marvelous."
"How did you unlock the humility path again?" Terra asked.
"That is a true mystery, and I will leave it to the philosophers," Rain shrugged. "Regardless, this area was a cemetery for the dragons, so the mana here should have been even denser in the past, that is probably why the stump started to work here. Most likely, it also used the genetic makeup of the bones to produce those small dragons."
"This is enough for now, right?" Seara asked. "We need to head to the next location since we won't find anything in there."

Seara had a point, so the group began to move again. The group's next destination was a location Isa had mentioned, an area once inhabited by the volcano dragons three thousand years ago. Situated a bit further north, the group embarked on their journey and eventually arrived at their destination—an expansive mountain range dominated by numerous active volcanoes.
Even before approaching the range closely, signs of the intense heat became clear.
As they neared the volcanic landscape, the ambient temperature soared. The air itself seemed to vibrate with the heat emanating from the volcanoes. Seara and Sealyn, due to their lineage, began to feel uncomfortable and visibly bothered by the rising temperature.
Their bodies, containing slightly higher water content compared to humans, reacted more sensitively to the excessive heat, causing them to feel the effects more intensely.
The sheer magnitude of the volcanic activity and the immense heat emanating from the area made it an uncomfortable and challenging environment for the group to navigate.
"Maybe you two can rest here for a bit," Rain said.
"We will get used to this, the same thing happened when we went into hiding one hundred years ago," Seara said.
Rain didn't want to belittle their willpower, so he didn't insist on the matter that much. Nevertheless, even him was starting to get annoyed by the heat, so Rain decided to use his domain to improve the conditions a bit and that was the perfect excuse to help them.
